LMI Examples of Collaboration

Advancing Collaboration for Enhanced Security

DHS ADSA Conference

LMI is a consultancy dedicated to powering a future-ready, high-performing government. We

incorporate emerging technologies backed by objective research and data analysis.

Founded in 1961, LMI continues to enable growth and transformation, enhance operational readiness

and resiliency, and ensure mission success for federal civilian and defense agencies.

So What? Who Cares?

• Space: Detection of infectious diseases, radiation, explosive devises, and other air bound

compounds at airport security checkpoints

• Problem: Need to expedite development and implementation of more

advanced sensor technologies that are effective and instantaneous

• Solution: Collaboration with industry, government research facilities,

academic research labs, think tanks, and pioneering start-ups

• Results: Provides diversity of thought and solutions, flexibility, creativity,

increased productivity, and ability to pivot quickly through collaboration

• Technology Readiness Levels (TRL): 3

What is Collaboration?

The LMI Research Institute, through our

Academic Programs, has extensive

relationships with and access to university

centers, applied research labs, institutes,

and academics to help provide insight to

support our U.S. government clients.

Academic Programs facilitates formal

working relationships with universities

across the U.S., bringing industry and

academia together to spur innovation and

explore groundbreaking research to help solve

some of the governments most challenging

problems now and in the future.

Academic Research Projects

LMI leverages our five academic research

partners---Howard University*, Penn State,

University of Maryland, University of Texas Austin,

University of Virginia---and more than 35 additional

universities, to include Carnegie Mellon, Duke,

George Washington, Georgetown, Georgia Tech,

Harvard, Johns Hopkins, MIT, Morgan State*, North

Carolina A&T*, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee State*,

Texas A&M, University of Maryland Baltimore

County**, Virginia State*, and Virginia Tech**,

utilizing their academic rigor and expertise on over

60 current contracts and future opportunities in

LMI’s Defense & Space, Health & Civilian,

Intelligence, and Homeland Security markets.

LMI invests financially in combined research

projects with our academic partners to help

solve some of the government’s toughest

scientific and technology challenges. These

research projects provide academic rigor to

our LMI independent research and

development (IR&D) efforts. LMI-sponsored
