Digital Dental Lab and DLMS Merge, Launch New Products In order to offer a comprehensive suite of CAD/CAM solutions for digi- tal dentistry, Digital Dental Lab and Dental Laboratory Milling Supplies have merged to form Digital Den- tal. Headquartered in Scottsdale, AZ, the new company offers the leading brands of Crystal ® Zirconia, Dental Mill machines and SinterMax ovens. The four founders—Scott and Anna Atkin of Dental Laboratory Milling Sup- plies and Kim and Cameron Karpowitz of Digital Dental Lab—have been work- ing closely for years; all are staying on at the new company and are excited about the growth opportunities ahead. “We are entirely focused on being part- ners with our customers,” said Kim Kar- powitz. “I believe this merger uniquely positions us to continue our leadership role in milled full contour posterior, anterior and implant restorations.” The merger transaction also pro- vides new capital for growth. It was arranged and led by St. Louis-based Villhard Growth Partners (VGP) which specializes in investing in established companies in growth industries; this is its first investment in the laboratory industry. Additional investors include First Capital Partners and Spectrum Financial Services, both of Omaha, NE. New Offerings The combined company also now includes the Center for Excellence, an advanced dental milling research and training laboratory in Scottsdale. “At our research facility, we are not only developing cutting-edge techniques and products for milling zirconia, but also harder materials, including titanium, hybrid nano-ceramics and PEEK,” said Scott Atkin. “I believe the merger strengthens our customer service relationship with our clients by putting material support, hardware support, training and best practices advice under one umbrella.” At the show, Digital Dental also launched several new products: n Three mills: The Dental Mill 5 HD (Heavy Duty) is a five-axis unit that machines zirconia as well as harder materials like titanium abutments; a four-axis version, the Dental Mill 4HD, is also available. For labs just getting into milling, Digital Dental presented a desk- top unit, the Dental Mill 4D, for mill- ing zirconia, wax and PMMA. It’s also offering a new “100% Uptime” service program for its mills: if a lab’s machine goes down and Digital Dental is unable to diagnose and fix the problem remotely, it will fabricate the cases for you and ship them via next-day delivery. n Sinterwave M3000, a desktop ver- sion of its microwave sintering oven, heats zirconia from the inside out to produce fast, accurate results at lower temperatures than traditional sintering ovens. It offers two times the power and speed of the original Sinterwave at half the price, $10,000, and will be available this summer. n Three materials: super translucent Crystal Anterior Zirconia available in white plus six shades, Crystal Tritan fiber resin discs and Crystal Chrome Co-Cr soft metal discs. For more information, contact Rich McComas at [email protected]. Digital Dental launched three new mills and three new discs.
