LOOK INSIDE TO SEE HOW! (cont’d ) A guest sat and talked with me one evening, sharing his life story. His story was one of a childhood filled with neglect and abuse. He and his siblings were raised by a single mother who was mentally ill and an alcoholic. He and his brother would joke about which of the two pair of pants each was going to wear to school that day. He laughed as he explained the pants came above both of their ankles because they were too small. As we talked, he told me it was his birthday and he was alone. He talked of the chronic pain he was in everyday from a back injury and how he couldn’t work. He said “you just have to get through each day and hope the next day is better. That’s all we have is hope”. By the end of the evening he had a table full of people sitting with him and the whole dining room sang Happy Birthday. He was full of smiles and laughter could be heard coming from his table. P.O. For many of our guests life has not always been a joyful ride. Life can sometimes be quite unfair. It will throw curveballs at them and will confront them with obstacles that seem larger-than-life. During these difficult times, it simply takes a lot of hope and encouragement for them to keep going. It’s that little spark of hope that motivates them to see things through – no matter how difficult it gets. In fact, hope is possibly the most important factor when it comes to overcoming the great challenges of life.

Thank you for helping us give our guests the comfort of food and fellowship, and the gift of hope.

Every week Keith Tomlinson and his wife, Ginny, volunteer for Loaves & Fishes. Keith picks up the dessert donation from Manderfields and Ginny bakes us her delicious Coca Cola Cake. Since 2013 both have given their time, heart and talent to Loaves & Fishes. It is with sadness that we say goodbye as they relocate out of state to start their new life journey. We thank both of them for their generosity and for creating the weekly Coca Cola cake tradition at Loaves & Fishes.

Don’t worry, one of our volunteers has already stepped forward to carry on the tradition in their honor!

We are so thankful for the support from the wonderful people in our community!

Please consider helping our organization by volunteering, donating or baking us one of

your special desserts!

If you walk through the Loaves & Fishes garden you will probably run into volunteer Skip Gardiner, our Garden Coordinator. The beautiful garden was Skip’s design and this year he has added towering trellises, hoop houses and more garden boxes. The garden is growing and producing nutritious fruits and vegetables that our guests are enjoying in the Loaves & Fishes meals. Skip holds fun garden work parties and is always looking for more help.

If you love gardening, volunteer with us in the garden that makes a difference! Contact volunteer coordinator, Sue Danreiter at 920-750-0964 or email [email protected].
