Jennifer Carpenter Named Yellowstone Center for Resources

Chief Yellowstone National Park Superintendent Dan Wenk announced today that Jennifer Carpenter has been selected as the park’s new chief of the Yellow-stone Center for Resources (YCR). Carpenter has been acting chief since her predecessor, David Hal-lac, left Yellowstone in late 2014 to become the su-perintendent of the Outer Banks Group in North Car-olina. As YCR Chief, Carpenter is responsible for oversee-ing more than 100 permanent and seasonal employ-ees. YCR was created in 1993 and is responsible for managing all park science and resource management operations—wildlife management, aquatic resources, vegetation, cultural resources, geology and physical resources, social science, environmental compliance, science communications, and research programs. YCR works to promote scientific research within the park and integrate that research into management decisions. “Jennifer has an incredible connection to the re-sources and the long term preservation of Yellow-stone.” said Wenk. “She will be a strong leader for natural and cultural resource protection with sur-rounding states and tribal governments.” Jennifer has worked in Yellowstone since 2012, where she served as the Branch Chief for Compli-ance and Science Communications until 2014. Prior to arriving in Yellowstone, Jennifer worked at Grand Teton National Park, Lassen Volcanic Nation-al Park, and Bandelier National Monument. Before joining the National Park Service in 2004, Jennifer worked as a biologist for several environ-mental consulting firms and for the Arizona Game & Fish Department. Jennifer obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona and a Master of Science in Applied Ecology and Environmental Resources from Arizona State University. Jennifer is a native of Colorado, although she grew up in Arizona. Jennifer lives in Mammoth, Wyo-ming with her husband, Dan Kowalski, a park law enforcement ranger, and their three year old daugh-ter, Estelle.

Gardiner Gateway, Phases I and II Project Update—July 26, 2016

Construction activities are underway on the Gardiner Gateway, Phase I and II projects. The Phase I project is nearing competition. It straddles Yellowstone National Park and Park County, Montana in Gardiner, Montana. The Phase II project is in within Gardiner on East Main Street, East Park Street and 1st street. Concrete for Curb and Gutter will be poured on the south side of East Main Street. Concrete sidewalk will be prepped and formed at East Park Street as well as concrete tie-ins for East Park and 1st street. ADA ramps will be prepped and formed on East Park. Next Week curb and gutter forms will start to take place on the north side of East Main Street, vehicles parked on East Main Street will need to be moved to perform work. A smaller roller may be used on East Park Street and 1st street for compaction. But we are not anticipating the use of any vibratory equipment on site this week, although this is subject to change. Landscapers will be around the project site placing topsoil which may create localized one way traffic. Way side exhibits will be constructed and placed this week. Arch Park will still be closed to the public until the sod reaches maturity. Flaggers will be on site to assist and coordinate traffic and pedestrians. Access for Rafting Companies on East Park Street will continue through construction.

Public update meetings are held weekly on Mondays at 5:30 PM in the Gardiner Community Center.
