THE 2017 KLONDIKE CHALLENGE WEEKEND * Saturday, April 1 & Sunday, April 2• The Klondike Challenge originated as a race on the AuSable River from Grayling to Burton’s Landing, but the event was moved to Oscoda’s Van
Etten Creek in 1996. The Klondike marks the “Season Kickoff” for the Michigan Canoe Racing season, and serves as a friendly, spirited sprintevent before the MCRA’s Annual Membership Meeting. Paddlers and race fans use the event to catch-up with race friends after a long winteroffseason, and to get a sneak peek at the racers for the upcoming season (or to see who has been training during the winter!). Originally arace held in late January or February, it is now held annually in late winter or early spring. In recent years, the Klondike Challenge has becomean AuSable River Canoe Marathon fundraising event, incorporating a 5K/10K Run/Walk into the weekend’s festivities. The event is organizedby the AuSable River International Canoe Marathon Committee, and hosted in conjunction with the Michigan Canoe Racing Association. Paddlers and runners of all ages and talent levels are welcome to enter.

Klondike Challenge – Canoe/Kayak * April 1 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
• Entry Fee: $5 per paddler ** Registration: 11:00 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Chemical Bank ** 4452 F-41, Oscoda• Event Start: C-2 event starts at 1:00 p.m. C-1 event starts approx. 1:03 p.m.• Event Course: The canoe / kayak challenge will start at the mouth of Van Etten Creek (where it meets the AuSable River), heading upstream
to Van Etten Dam, then performing a counter-clockwise buoy-turn, and then heading back downstream to finish just passed the F-41 bridgenear Chemical Bank. Race course is approximately 1 hour in length.
Other info: Lunch & Awards at the AuSable Inn at approximately 2:30 p.m. MCRA Annual Meeting will be held before Awards. Awards and prizes will be provided. Lunch is not included in the entry fee.

APRIL 2017THE 2017 KLONDIKE CHALLENGE WEEKEND * Saturday, April 1 & Sunday, April 2The Klondike Challenge originated as a race on the AuSable River from Grayling to Burton’s Landing, but the event was moved to Oscoda’sVan Etten Creek in 1996. The Klondike marks the “Season Kickoff” for the Michigan Canoe Racing season, and serves as a friendly, spiritedsprint event before the MCRA’s Annual Membership Meeting. Paddlers and race fans use the event to catch-up with race friends after along winter offseason, and to get a sneak peek at the racers for the upcoming season (or to see who has been training during the winter!). Originally a race held in late January or February, it is now held annually in late winter or early spring. In recent years, the KlondikeChallenge has become an AuSable River Canoe Marathon fundraising event, incorporating a 5K/10K Run/Walk into the weekend’sfestivities. The event is organized by the AuSable River International Canoe Marathon Committee, and hosted in conjunction with theMichigan Canoe Racing Association. Paddlers and runners of all ages and talent levels are welcome to enter. to Van Etten Dam, then performing a counter-clockwise buoy-turn, and then heading back downstream to finish just passed the F-41 bridgenear Chemical Bank. Join The Compassionate Friends of Oscoda Area’s 3rd Annual Worldwide Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in lightingcandles creating a virtual 24-hour wave of light as it moves from time zone to time zone to honor the memories of the sons, daughters,brothers, sisters, and grandchildren who left too soon. ...that their lights may always shine.Donations will be accepted at the candle lighting to assist the support group for bereaved parents, grandparents, and siblings to providewritten materials and hold their three annual events: Butterfly Release in June, Walk to Remember in July and Worldwide Candle Lighting inDecember.
