Location: Asheville, North Carolina Contact: [email protected] Genre: Ambient Electronic, Post Rock, Orchestral Comparison: Jon Hopkins, Sigur Ros, Nils Frahm, Explosions in the Sky Tristan Eckerson's life, musical and otherwise, has been that of a nomad since his teenage years, when he left his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio to pursue his musical career. Since then he has lived in Charleston, South Carolina, San Sebastian, Spain, San Francisco, California, Seattle, Washington, and now Asheville, North Carolina. During this time he has written music and performed in multiple groups on both U.S. Coasts, recording with members of the Ray Charles Orchestra, writing string arrangements for the Magik*Magik Orchestra, performing at South by Southwest, Noise Pop, and Midpoint Music Festival, and receiving his Master's degree in Music Production and Sound Design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Classically trained on the piano as a child, Tristan's arrival in the world of electronic music was anything but commonplace. Singing in punk bands in elementary school, learning to passably play drums and trombone, and playing keyboards in many different groups (ranging in genre from funk and jazz to indie rock and alt country) throughout his college years, Tristan hadn't even considered producing electronic music until he started grad school while living in San Francisco. At that time, after learning the ins and outs of electronic music production, the many joys of analog synthesis, and completely immersing himself in composition, arranging, and orchestration, Tristan began to carve out a unique musical personality that fused together his newfound love for electronic music with his older inspirations like Sigur Ros, Pink Floyd, and the classical minimalism of iconic composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Rapidly developing an online fan base by releasing a string of electronic EP's and compositions over the past few years, Tristan has now completed his first ever full length album, and has also put together a live show that incorporates himself performing the piano and keyboard parts of his productions, combined with a more "traditional" electronic music set up to fill out the live sound. The result is an engaging, epic, and totally unique album and live show that is sure to take the rabid, increasingly genre diverse fans of the electronic music world on a musical trip that they won't soon forget. Notable Venues Played: Great American Music Hall, San Francisco, CA (Noise Pop Festival w/Cursive) South by Southwest, Austin, TX (w/The Dodos, John Vanderslice, etc.) Bottom of the Hill, San Francisco, CA (sold out show w/Seeking Empire) The Music Farm, Charleston, SC (w/Karl Denson's Tiny Universe) Madison Theatre, Covington, KY The Historic Southgate House, Newport, KY AYE Music and Art Festival, Cincinnati, OH Midpoint Music Festival, Cincinnati, OH Press: "Eckerson's abilities on the keys are impressive, creating a robust, intense aura." - Mike Breen, Cincinnati Citybeat "Tristan Eckerson has delivered the most intense 20 minutes of music I have experienced in quite some time." - Joshua Smothermann, Middle Tennessee Music "Tristan is an amazing individual who has a great talent when it comes to music." - Grant Austin, Edm Assassin "Fin Air" is a fantastic, almost epic piece, intellectually written and arranged with multiple jazzy and ambient sections through the arpeggios that characterize Eckerson's ivory style." - Alex Hall, Cincinnati Citybeat "Tristan's debut EP definitely achieves the goals of musicality, danceable rhythms, uniqueness, and accessibility." - Layla Yasmin, Think in Electronic
