Location Recce – Unit G321: Foundation Portfolio in Media

Location The first location for my front cover and contents page is going to be in the photography studio in school. Time: lunch (12:35 - 1:20) on Tuesday, because it is the most likely to be used longest time available during school. This location was selected for its usefulness in terms of lighting equipment and a black background available.

The second location is going to be somewhere outside with grass ground, and a brick wall (preferably of a light colour). This is for the DPS images- I thought that if I took it in the outside environment, it would represent the star as an active, confident and a person who goes with their own pace. This is a positive representation. The date for this shooting will also be on the Tuesday, and the time will be: 12:30 - 1:20 if I am going to take it on the school grass ground & bricks.

Picture Needed/Required The images needed for my front cover and contents page include: -the model’s low angle shot of holding an electric guitar. This would be because the front cover will then represent power and motivation to the readers, and makes them curious as to why he is making such a pose as it’s an unconventional angle. Equipment needed will be the lighting lights. For my contents page, the model will be shot in an eye-level angle, with a full shot or a medium shot. He will either be holding a guitar, or using his hands for expression. For the DPS, he would be in a medium close-up to capture his expressions, but also in a landscape shot. As it is outside, the weather needs to be good.

The overall props needed will be an electric guitar. It would be good if he does wear a necklace but not essential. His costume will be: A leather Jacket on top of black or white T-shirt, with Jeans. The person I have in mind, is of someone who has a fairly long hair, ,is tall and can play the guitar. I will use him because he looks very conventional to a person who likes and plays rock music.

Permission Needed As it is going to be inside school, I may need the permission of the head teacher or someone who is in charge of the school to overall, shoot images within school for publication. I also need permission for borrowing an electric guitar from the music department.

For using the photography studio, I need to ask the photography teacher for permission. Then I will have to arrange dates / times that I can use them.

Potential Hazards/Risks The potential risks that the photography studio can have, is the lights, because they are very tall and

In terms of shooting outside, there are trees in the grass parts of the school, so I will

heavy, so it can break or hurt someone if it does collapse / fall down. So an eye must be kept on it.

Also, I am most likely going to use a tripod when shooting, so it will need to be made sure that the camera and the tripod is very secure on the ground, so that it will not risk breaking.

In order to prevent people from tripping over, ensure that all cables on the floor are out of the way.

Carry equipment between more than one people so that the people won’t strain muscles or hurt themselves.

Carry lighting stands upright, not horizontal.

It is most likely that there are windows on top of some brick walls of the school building, so I will have to be careful not to break it or to hurt someone.

The Weather can affect the model’s health as well as the photographer’s health. It is necessary that the location won’t have slippery grass / ground, so that the model won’t slip and hurt themselves.
