Genre• The genre of our film ‘locked up’ is a thriller. With it being a thriller it could result

in events that shock the audience such as gun shootings and transportations of people.

• When researching about thriller films, we found ideas based on prisoners, board games, illusions and bad mistakes. We also found ideas on death and murder

however decided to leave this type of action out in case the film seemed more of a horror than a thriller.

• A subliminal message presented through the film is the fact of listening to others and to trust others that care for you. It has not got a true message that needs to be put across as it’s a thriller not a documentary or an awareness film but with it relating to the enigma code it will make the audience ask questions through out.

The Opening Sequence• The opening sequence is all revolved around the characters within the main shack,

numbered 13. The number 13 relates with the rest of the film due to the number being known as unlucky, which is what the film is mainly based around; bad luck. It will start off of a panning shot of the aligned shacks within the shape of a circle with candle lights in the shape of a star within. This is a representation of the evil/devil which gives the audience an idea of what type of film it is going to be. Although, the characters will not know what they are seeing, doing or where they are, so as a result of them playing the board game, they will not understand they’re cursed and will be afraid of their fate after the first unusual event affects them. Within the opening scene it introduces both the characters and the setting and seeing the characters will instantly link to the rest of the film and will show a variety of types of consequences that happen throughout. Themes presented are nature, human, crime and the enigma code. As well as the themes the mood is full of suspense and anticipation as there a small clues as to what consequences are going to occur. The whole opening scene does signify the genre and shows how the lighting throughout is used to represent the mood. Pathetic Fallacy will be used throughout.

Page 4: Locked up

Practicalities• Budget: $10 million dollars – This is because the film is set at one place, the shacks,

throughout the film so filming will be done continuously at the same place. Also it allows the film to be at a high quality and to allow each scene to be accurate.

• The time during the film will be two weeks from the start of the film until the end. However at the beginning the film starts of with a flashback, which allows the audience to have an understanding of the film and what this film is about.

• Music: The opening song for this film will be the first 30 seconds of the song ‘Russian Roulette’ by Rihanna. This is because it has a good beat and intensity to go with the opening scene of the truck driving past. In the film there will be non-diegetic sounds which will be music. The music will be piano and violin chords when a dramatic scene is approaching to enhance the intensity of the particular scene. The end song will be ‘Blackstar’ by David Bowie. This is because it is a dark and slow song so will go with theme of the film which is thriller.

Film Inspirations

Ouija is based on a ouija board and how they contact spirits of her late friend. Strange events start to occur which aren't expected.

Prisoners gave us the idea of involving prisoners within the film as it would make it more affective and make the plot line different.

Disturbia gave us the idea of house arrest instead the prisoners would have less freedom and would be watched 24/7 whenever in their shacks.

Taken is a film that gave us the idea of having characters that try to save others from having bad actions forced upon them.

SHACK 13

Blair Woods - Blake Lively

Ash Gun - Christian Bale Bella Scar - Courtney Cox

Stanley Cut - Morgan Freeman

Blair Woods is going to be the main female involved within shack 13. She is going to be the most innocent one of the shack but still goes ahead and plays the game because she does not know where she is and she does not know what she has to lose. Although she is worried about what will happen to her after hearing Stanley’s stories she feels like she is dying in the shack so she doesn't have much choice whether to play it or not because there is no persuasion holding her back

Stanley Cut will be the wise prisoner within shack 13, although he isn’t scared of anything coming his way he warns the other three characters that consequences will be brought upon the others if they play the game because he knows as he has been in that shack for over 50 years. When he tries explaining about the bad actions that have happened to him he suddenly cant talk so Ash and Courtney are eager to find out what is so bad about playing this board game.

Ash Gun is the most dominating, brave male out of the whole film. He is a newly added prisoner and doesn’t believe anything that Stanley says. He thinks he will seem like an admirable man in front of the women if he plays the game. Once he plays the game he starts to have hallucinations about there being other shacks which is what Stanley has told him about. So as the film goes on he tries to reassure Blair and Bella that they will try and be freed from the shack from the other people surrounding them, however he still continues to be a dare devil and play the game which forces bad actions upon the others.

Bella is a less frightened character than Blair and tries to impress Ash by saying shell play the game because she joined that shack will Ash, so she wants to seem brave compared to Blair and Stanley. She is easily persuaded and will do anything she is told. She informs her shack mates that she doesn’t have any family so the people she shares the shack with are the closest people to her and said that her ‘family’ should support her with playing the game.

SHACK 7

Liana Sterling – Scarlett Johansson

Raven Knight - Mila Kunis Fred Tremaine – Dave Franco

Brad East – Laurence Fishburne

Liana Sterling knows that her sister Blair has been placed in the cursed shack and being the determined character she is, she tries to break out of her shack to save her sister and the others. She is mysterious and is clever about the way she carries out her ideas. Liana is outgoing but also sly in the way that she can manipulate others into helping her for her own benefit. They all know the consequences of trying to help people in another shack, however with Liana being able to change peoples minds with a special trick, this allows her to gain some help.

Although Brad East has been placed in the lucky shack he still tries to harm Liana, Raven and Fred without them knowing whilst they are all sleeping which only happens one day a year. Raven knows that he is a mass murderer so warns the others that they cant fall asleep at the same time otherwise he will try to harm them.

Raven Knight is the most heroic character within this film. She has a sympathetic and fearless character which is portrayed nearer to the end of the fim. She insists that Brad is evil and she has seen it in her dreams but Liana and Fred think that she my be tricking them as Brad is devious. Raven Knight as her name symbolises tries to break out those in the cursed shack because her and her ex boyfriend were put into prison for the same crime and she thinks that he is in that shack.

Fred Tremaine is a gullible character and is persuaded to do what ever is asked upon him. With him being in the lucky shack and having nothing to do except stare at 4 wooden walls, he tries to follow brads instructions and tries to harm both the girls he is sharing the shack with, he only does this as Brad hypnotises him in his sleep. He is a goofy being and tries to make the best mood out of any situation.

Target Audience• Our target audience, is based towards middle aged professionals who are intelligent and have a

lot of money which is what their lives are revolved around. With a thriller film for middle aged professionals, we need to ensure that it is gripping the whole way through to get a clear judgement from it and to ensure that little sudden events occur throughout to keep their attention. This film would be compared to many others that the target audience have seen, however the language used within this could vary and the type of visual content we produce could also be blood-tingling.

• Our target audience would enjoy seeing this film as it is a wide variety of extremely popular thriller films which seemed to have been enjoyed by mainly, this type of target audience. There is no other film like this that has been recognised as mainstream and as a result of this middle aged professionals want to watch a film that they have not seen before and will really enjoy; if they like this type of genre .

• Most of the targeted audience will be working full time all year round but might have a few weeks off in the summer holidays so with this in mind the film will have to shown on late nights and holidays to give the targeted audience time to watch it.

Plot Summary• As for the film locked up, our idea of how our film will go is quite a roller coaster of

events. There are eight main characters within the shacks however, there is 4 shacks as a result but only 2 of the shacks are focused on. The first scene will start off as a flashback to one year before of a black camouflage truck travelling through a forest until it reaches the circle of shacks.

• Once it reaches 10 minutes into the film it will be a wobbly shot of the 4 people that remain in shack number 13 . It will then instantly switch too the lucky shack number 7 and the mood will change too joyful and determination.

• You will see shack 13 play the game being warned by Stanley that playing the game will curse the shack. Playing this game will make them land on bad actions such as pain caused, gun shootings, murder attempts and movement of the shack.

• By the end of the film you will see the pain inflicted upon the characters and how playing the game did serve them consequences. The end result will be that the siblings Liana and Blair may be reunited.
