Locusrite Angle Bead

Description and Application

Available in 2.4 and 3.0m lengths in galvanised finish, and 3.0m in stainless steel finish.Angle Bead is used to provide a true, straight corner which protects andreinforces a 2 or 3 coat plaster or render application in its most vulnerablearea. One size adjusts for thickness, although larger wings are available forunusually thick plaster / render.

Locusrite External Render Stop Bead


Available in 2.4m and 3.0m lengths in galvanised finish and 3.0m lengths in stainless steel finish.

External Render Stop Bead is predominantly used to form a neat bell shaped edge at the bottom of anexternal render finish, thus protecting the edge and acting as a run-off for when rainfall occurs.

Galvanised product to be used in sheltered areas only, stainless steel for all otherareas including coastal.

Plaster Stop Bead is used to provide a precise straight clean finish and also toreinforce 2 or 3 coat plaster or render on its edge.

Locusrite Plaster Stop Bead is available in four sizes for varying thickness ofplaster depth - 10, 13, 16 and 19mm.

Locusrite Architrave Feature Bead


Available in 3.0m lengths in galvanised steel only.

Architrave Feature Bead is used to form a decorative shadow line at plasteredge, at door and window reveals and other joinery features. It can also beused to act as a neat divide between differing wall finishes. Available with orwithout a return flange - (engaging or abutting).

Available in 3.0m lengths in galvanised & stainless steel finish.

Movement Bead is used to overcome movement tolerances in plaster andrender finishes thus minimising cracking in finished coat. It can also be usedto act as a stop barrier for when a change in finish is required or type ofrender finish.

This product is available in four sizes for varying thickness of plaster depth- 10, 13, 16 and 19mm.

Locusrite Powder Coated Bead


A Range of pre-galvanised steel beads synthetically powder coated toproduce a more robust and suitable colour co-ordinated external rendersystem bead.

All beads available in 3.0m lengths only.

Any colour can be requested upon supply of the correct ‘RAL’ reference code.

Storage and Protection

The installation of Locusrite beads should be in accordance with BS 5492:1990 (internal) and BS 5492:1991 (external).

The most appropriate Locusrite bead should be chosen to suit the application, required plaster/render depthand desired finish.

Beads should be fixed using plaster dabs or mechanical fixings at a maximum of 600mm intervals. Beads can alsobe fixed to lath sheets by the use of galvanised or stainless steel tye wire.

Use tinsnips to cut the bead wings and a fine toothed saw to cut the nosing.

Care should be taken to ensure that steel beads are kept dry, and stored and handled in a way to preventdistortion and general damage, especially to the galvanised coating. This means storing them off the ground ona flat surface.

The risk of corrosion in galvanised beads will normally only become apparent during the initial drying outperiod of the plaster, which should be kept to an absolute minimum (maximum 5-7 days), and subsequentlyduring periods of heavy condensation and dampness.

All metal components used in a particular installation must be of all the same material type, i.e stainless fixingswith stainless beads/sheets and galvanised fixings for galvanised bead/sheets.

In external applications and in conditions where heavy condensation, persistent damp or regular exposure tomoisture are likely, stainless steel or PVC-U beads must be used.

Stainless steel beads are for use with cement based renders and not for use with gypsum based plasters unless

they are specified with an approved protective finish.

The Powder-coated range of bead is available in boxes of 50 lengths per carton.

Locusrite Perforated Thin Coat Bead


Available in 2.4m, 2.7m and 3.0m lengths in galvanised material only.Perforated Thin Coat Bead is used to reinforce and protect one-coat finish of plaster on corners and reveals atits weakest points on internal walls and plasterboard.

Two profiles are available - Standard range with a 22mm flange and Premier range with a 24mm flange bothwith a 79.5 degree angle.

A 135 degree bead is also availablewith a 24mm wing for unusual corners.

Locusrite Mini Mesh Bead


Available in 2.4m, 2.7m and 3.0m lengths in galvanised material only.

Mini Mesh Bead is used to reinforce and protect one-coat finish of plasteron corners at its weakest point on internal walls and plasterboard. The minimesh bead has a greater area of expanded metal therefore gives a bettermechanical key.

Locusrite Drywall Tape is used for reinforcing joints and patchingrepairs on plasterboard.

Premier Bead Corner Tape

Description

Locusrite Premier Bead Corner Tape is made by bonding two corrosion resistantmetal strips to paper jointing tape. It is very safe to use as there are no sharpedges compared to conventional beads.

Application

Locusrite Premier Bead Corner Tape is designed for finishing inside and outsidedrywall corners and is also suitable for construction repair work. The flexiblesteel backing fits any angle where traditional beading cannot be used and canbe easily cut to any length for minimum wastage. It is applied by using standard jointing compound. No nails or special tools are required.

Premier Bead Paper Joint Tape

Description

Locusrite Premier Bead Paper Joint Tape is a creased, paper roll, manufacturedfrom cross-fibre paper giving strength through the width and length of the tape.

Application

Locusrite Premier Bead Paper Joint Tape is designed for reinforcing joints andinternal corners on gypsum drywall interiors.

The tape is perforated and centre creased to enable excellent bonding. The roll issupplied in a dispenser box and is easily cut to length. It is applied using standard jointing compound. No nails or special tools required.

PVC-U Arch Bead


PVC-U Arch Bead is a flexible dry lining bead used for creating decorativeplaster curves and arches.

PVC-U Angle Bead / Thin Coat Angle Bead


PVC-U Angle bead is for use on all plastered and rendered corners, where a

true sharp corner is required. It protects the plaster at its most vulnerable point.Different sizes available for various plaster / render thickness.

Installation of Metal Lathing and Mesh

Fixing of Expanded Metal Lathing Sheets

Fix with the long way of mesh running from support to support, with all strands sloping downwards andinwards from the face of the coating. Always ensure when fixing that allowance is made for overlapping sheetsby 50mm lengthways and 25mm widthways.

Timber Support

To connect to timber use 40mm plasterer’s nails or staples at 100mm centres. Start at the centre of the sheet

and work out towards the edges. Always fix at an angle to allow lath to be pulled tight. Ensure that compatiblecorrosion resistant fixings are used ie. do not use galvanised fixings with stainless products.

Metal Support

To fix to steel channels, tie with 1.2mm tying wire at 100mm centres. Tie by creating a ‘hairpin’ shape with thewire, then pull tight and twist. Take care that cut wire ends are not close to plaster surface.

To Solid Background

Expanded Metal Lath can be fixed to a solid background using a suitable fixing with an integral spacer/washerand large diameter headed screw/nail that will keep the sheets firmly in place.

Installation of Metal Lathing and Mesh

Fixing of Riblath Sheets

Riblath is fixed so that the tip of the rib is placed against the supporting background. The rib of the sheetshould run at right angles to any supports. Ensure that sheets are overlapped by a minimum of 50mm end toend and by 25mm widthways and that the ribs are nestled together.

Timber Support

Riblath is fixed at each rib to timber supports using plasterers’ nails or staples. Ensure that compatible corrosion

resistant fixings are used, ie. do not use galvanised fixings for stainless steel.

Metal Support

Riblath is fixed at each rib to metal support using 1.63mm galvanised or stainless steel tying wire. When joiningriblath sheets overlap the edge ribs and tie the edges with 1.22mm tying wire at 150mm centres.

Solid Background

Riblath can be fixed to a solid background using a suitable fixing which holds the ribs firmly against thebackground. Where sheets are installed vertically, fixings should be positioned through all ribs at 600mmcentres to ensure adequate stability.

Teco Wall Starter


The TECO Stainless Steel Wall Starter system joinsnew walls to existing masonry and is suitable forboth internal and external brick or block walls. Theconnectors can be slotted together up to a maximumof 8 metres or 3 storeys high, from 60 to 250mm thick.

SpecificationThe TECO Stainless Steel Wall Starter systemis engineered for outstanding strength andperformance. When tested, on failure of the wallsthere was no sign of any damage to either the wallties or channel. The wall ties did not pull out of the

cross wall or deform within the channel.The design shear strength may be taken as 6.0kN per1.2m strip.

Wall ConnectorsSimple Stainless steel system for tying new to existing masonry walls.

The wall starter system is a 2-part system consisting of a 1.2m long channel and wall ties which slot into and canslide within the channel. The channel is fixed onto existing masonry using 50mm long x 5.45mm diameter boltswith grey wall plugs at the manufacturers recommended centres (3 fixings per strip). Wall ties are supplied tobe used at 215mm vertical centres.

Health and Safety Data

HandlingThe nature of cutting metal, as required by the manufacture of Locusrite products, may resultin sharp or burred edges.

Users should exercise care in handling, using protective equipment where deemed necessary,such as gloves, clothing and eye protection.

PackagingThe steel band used to contain certain products is, by necessity, under tension. Care must betaken when cutting the banding to avoid flying ends etc.

The shrink wrap polythene used to contain the product is not acting as protection from sharpedges and care should be taken when handling such items.

Stainless SteelSteel containing various combinations of different elements, a breakdown of which isavailable on request. The product is chemically stable except under extreme heats. In itsnormal state stainless steel represents no health hazards. However, treatment such aswelding, grinding or burning can result in fumes and/or the production of airborne particles.

The main method of ingestion is by inhalation, which should be avoided by ventilation orlocal extraction. Exposure limits (ref. H.S.E. Guidance Note EH 40) need to be observed.

Galvanised Mild SteelMild Steel with a coating of zinc bonded by an electrolytic process. Exposed to heat in excessof 900 degrees centigrade (by fire, welding or flame cutting) the galvanised coating willoxidise, producing copious zinc oxide fumes. Under these circumstances it is recommendedthat extraction systems be used to ensure that Occupational Exposure Levels are not

exceeded and to avoid metal fume fever.
