BANGLADESH COUNTRY OVERVIEW population: 162.2 million people without access to clean water: 20% people without access to sanitation: 47% Bangladesh is the eighth most populated country in the world and and also one of the most densely populated. The country has gained global recognition by significantly reducing the mother and child mortality rates and by increasing gender parity in education. However water and sanitation remain a central issue. Surface water is often contaminated with human waste, arsenic and industrial pollution. PROJECT OVERVIEW District: Chpai Nawabganj Region: Sadar Intervention: New Tube Well Estimated Beneficiaries: 250 Implementing Partner: Concern Worldwide Status: In Progress (Estimated Completion Early 2013) PROJECT DETAILS Your project is in the construction and community engagement phase. This project addresses the critical shortage of clean water in the Chpai Nawabganj district by funding the construction of a tube well. Deep tube wells that access water from aquifers far underground are less likely to be contaminated with arsenic and ensure water is available year-round. Once the project construction is complete, our local partner will also form and train a local Water and Sanitation Committee on best sanitation and hygienic practices, safe water storage and water point management. These efforts instill a sense of ownership and responsibility for the project. THANK YOU. Loesche GmbH Project Update
