I have laid out my main page so that I know where everything goes and picked a simple colour combination for ease of reading.

I have added simple codes and conventions to the magazine including the masthead and the subheads along with social media convergence.

I have added the main picture into the magazine, the magazine badge and additional content like subheadings and competitions to attract my target market.

I have started by making a simple layout for my contents page including the picture spaces and continuous colour scheme.

I have then added the titles and sections of my magazine including a picture of me for the editorial and effect to make the page look better.

I have then added the main pictures into the contents page including all the subheadings and the full editorial and magazine information.

My music genre is alternate rock. This magazine is focused on Rock bands and the target audience is 13+. I have used Maslow’s Hierarchy to decide upon my target audience. The place in the hierarchy I have chosen is self-actualization. I have chosen this because my magazine is based on facts and what Linkin Park did on tour or on a concert for my double page spread.

The Kerrang magazine was first published in 1981 (5 years before Q), it is published by Bauer Media Group, and currently has a circulation of around forty thousand people per issue. The Bauer Media group is also a publisher for other magazines such as; heat, mojo and Q.The Bauer Media group was founded in 1875 that manages magazines digital products, radio stations and TV stations in local markets across the world.

Established Magazine for my Research

The front cover has a masthead, a main headline, cover lines, and a main image, a barcode, price tag and the issue date. It also has a convergence, a strap line and a promotion. On top of that it also has a magazine badge. This magazine cover, covers all codes and conventions for a magazine therefore no conventions are missing.

Target Audience – Katz, Maslow, Hartley and/or socio-economic needs

The target audience for Kerrang magazine can be denoted as people older than 13 because it is a factual magazine with news reports about famous rock bands and various competitions and quizzes to keep the readers entertained. All young people want / need to be updated on what is going on in the music genre of magazines especially rock and pop since it’s most popular between teenagers. The target audience for Kerrang magazine can also be denoted as teenagers who are looking forward to find out what the current rock stars are up to and what competitions can be taken to win specific prizes such as concert tickets or other goods so that the audience is actually engaged.

What is the USP of this magazine?From the research completed into this media product, I think the USP is that they are the only magazine that focuses on rock bands/artists which consequently makes them unique from all other published magazine. This can be proven since there are 42, 967 copies sold so far as this magazine is the UK’s most exciting youth media brand.From the research I have completed into this media product, I think the USP is the use of star appeal in each magazine to suit the likings of teenagers and young adults who are interested in rock music and other genres as well as special interviews with specific bands.

My magazine of inspiration, Kerrang, is published by the Bauer Media Group and is aimed at people in their late teens and early twenties who are into rock and metal.They meet their socio-economic needs by making sure each issue will include a balance of bands and scenes to guarantee that we’re providing for our readers’ need for variety and their passionate appetite for their favorite bands as well as their desire to be introduced to new music within our world.
