QUICK CUP
Quick Cup is a faucet-mounted coffee
brewing machine that holds a single-serve
coffee cup. By turning on your hot water,
Quick Cup raises the current hot water
temperature to the ideal brewing
temperature before pouring the perfect cup
of coffee right from your faucet.
This invention has been recognized by both
As Seen on TV and CNBC’s Make Me a
Millionaire Inventor.
Quick Cup was designed in Solidworks and rendered in PhotoView 360.
BUTTON HOOK BRACELET
The Button Hook Bracelet is a product I created from the
frustration each day when buttoning the cuffs of my shirts.
This invention is a bracelet that allows you to easily button
your cuff on those mornings that you just can’t seem to
button it. Adding a length of leather cord gives a classy look
to the bracelet.
In the beginning, it was difficult to understand the best
design of a hook to not only slide easily through the slit in a
shirt cuff, but one to also grab and hold on to the button,
and easily pull back through the slit.
After drawing many different hook concepts, a simplistic
rectangular shape with corner fillets allowed an easy
means to accomplish the task.

BUTTON HOOK BRACELET
After many prototypes and
valuable customer feedback, the
Button Hook Bracelet was created
and sold through Shapeways in
stainless steel and many other
metals. See link below for product

TABLETOP CRACKER MILL
The Tabletop Cracker Mill was produced to solve the issue of having your
hands covered in cracker crumbs after crushing them into your soup. By using
the concept of pepper grinders, this simple solution is a great additive to any
home or restaurant looking to create a better experience for the user.
The product needed to hold a small pack of Ritz crackers in which all have
generally equivalent dimensions. Once these criteria were understood, I drew
many different designs and chose a few to pursue further before modelling a
final design.
This product was designed in Solidworks and
rendered in PhotoView 360.
I took the six most aesthetically pleasing designs and made quick models of
them by shaping high-density polyester foam blocks. These models then
allowed me to both see a physical shape of the product and feel how well they
fit within my hands for functionality. This led me to the realization that keeping it
simple with a cylindrical shape was the most functional and aesthetically
pleasing design to move forward with modelling.

TABLETOP CRACKER MILL
This full scale and functional
prototype shows the viability of
the Tabletop Cracker Mill.
Another iteration of this product
needs to be made to create a
better experience for the user
before making a small scale
manufacturing run to test its
market value and further work
out any issues with the product.
This product was 3D printed with a Makerbot Replicator and Stratasys Objet 30.

180 CHAIR
I feel that a chair design should be a staple
piece for every product designer. Chairs, a
widely used object within the world and often
going unnoticed, can be quite simple or very
complex, depending on many factors. Chairs
provide a great opportunity for a designer to
express their style and perspective on design.

This chair was designed in Solidworks and rendered in PhotoView 360.
I wanted to create a very simple, yet elegant
chair with no moving parts, but served
multiple functions. 180 Chair was created to
serve as both a chair to sit with good form in
to work from, as well as to lay back and relax
in after that work is completed. To make it
serve a different function, the user cans
simply flip the chair 180 degrees.
180 CHAIR
The first prototype was made from
cheap plywood on a Shop Sabre
CNC machine with the initial thought
that I wanted this chair to lay flat
when packed. I soon realized that
making the chair out of pipe would
be more elegant than wood.
The second prototype of the chair
was made from conduit piping, metal
mesh and 3D printed joints made on
a Stratasys Objet 30. This prototype
brings the newly generated CAD
render to life in the cheapest means
possible. The lines are much better
than the wooden version of this chair
and the piping provides more stability
for each of its designated purposes.
Currently, local metal fabricators are
being contacted to build a final
version of the 180 Chair. The final
version will be one solid piece of
welded aluminum piping and mesh.

PROP ALIGNMENT TOOL
Some light aircraft propellers are able to be
adjusted to change the pitch of each blade
of the propeller individually from the
ground. A Variable Pitch Propeller performs
this function to prevent stalling of the
aircraft, as they move at varying speeds.
Propeller alignment tools are used to adjust
each blade of a propeller to the same pitch.
Current propeller alignment tools use a
protractor and a bubble level to adjust each
blade to a specific pitch. The error associated
with the small marks on the protractor, the
inconsistency of the bubble level and the error
associated with the human eye combined can
leave the individual blades over one degree
off, which can affect the performance of the
machine.

This product was designed in Solidworks and rendered in PhotoView 360.
This tool is spring loaded to lightly clamp
to each blade as well as a smartphone to
align each blade of the propeller. A
smartphone app can then be used to bring
each blade of the propeller within 100th of
a degree away from each other, which is a
major increase in precision over
competitors.
This product is 3D printed using a
Makerbot Replicator and is currently on a
small scale manufacturing run for local
pilots.

LAND DRONE 4
Land Drone 4 is a part of the University of
Maine Mechanical Engineering capstone. Along
with two other team members, Land Drone 4
was created to assist the United States Border
Patrol on missions deemed high risk for a team
to enter an area. Land Drone 4 is GPS and
chainsaw driven to locate a target and take
video and audio surveillance before reporting
back to home base.
For the project, I contributed the body and drive
train design, as well as all of the electronics and
coding.
The finished machine was able to complete
some of the tasks it was built for, but due to time
constraints, our team wasn't able to fully
complete the project. Land Drone 4 was one of
the first generation robots built for the Border
Patrol challenge, which is now growing towards
a national capstone challenge for other leading
engineering schools.
