Background about Loggerheads
• The Loggerhead is named after its big head
• They eat clams, shrimp, lobster, and crabs
• They can weigh up to 350 pounds and be as tall as 35 inches!!
Endangered Species• Loggerheads can get trapped in fishing nets and die
• They can get killed when they are hatchlings because animals like raccoons or wild pigs will eat them
• Loggerheads have to look out for sharks their whole lives no matter how big they get
• They can get hit by boats when they up to the surface for air
How can you help?• If you see turtle eggs, put a fence around them so people won’t harm them
• Use special fishing nets so the turtles can get out of them
• Don’t go everywhere in cars because it cause pollution and over time the turtles will not have any oxygen to breathe
• When you’re in a boat or anywhere near the water don’t drop any trash
Fun Facts• Hatchlings are about the size of a Ping-Pong ball
• They can live to be 50 years old or more out in the wild
• There are less than 60,000 Loggerhead females nesting on earth!!
