Background research
We looked at some buns that were already in the shops at the moment, discussing their presentation, the type of icing and whether they were appealing or not. Then we got to try them! We discussed the pros and cons of each bun.
Market research
As we were selling the buns to our parents at the
summer fair we decided we needed to know what they
like in a bun so we did some market research. We wrote a questionnaire and took it home to get some
answers. What flavour buns do you like?
After discussing what was popular with people at home we helped Miss Vasiliou and Miss Taylor demonstrate 3 different variations of buns.
Focused practical task
Specification
After tasting the buns and discussing what our market research showed, we came up with our brief specification. Yellow decided on vanilla buns and turquoise decided on strawberry buns. This gave us some guidance for our final design.
Final design
Now we knew that we wanted to make vanilla and strawberry buns we made our final design considering all the things we would need.
At the fair Miss Betcher was selling recipe books containing all our class recipes and so we had a class competition to write up our recipe in neat. Look at some of the wonderful efforts!
Writing our recipe
Making the buns
When it came to making our buns we were now experts after investigating what was on offer and what families wanted.
Designing the decoration
After making the buns we designed the decorations. Our market research told us that the decoration was very important. We decided on buttercream icing and sprinkle as many parents liked this type of decoration.
Evaluation
The last thing we did was evaluate our week of baking. Some of us wrote a letter to Miss Betcher and some of us wrote down our ideas to evaluate our bake. We told her what we found easy and fun, what was tricky and what we would like to do next time!
