Instructions
Eachweekyouwillreceiveanupdatedversionofthisbooklet.Itwillcontainthelessonplans,materials,proceduresandobjectivesforyourchild’smusiclessonforthefollowingweek.Generally,thesewillbe“standalone”lessonsthatteachourstudentsaboutmusictheory(notes,rests),musichistory,musicappreciation,musicperformanceandinstrumentalperformance(3rdGradeRecorder).Onoccasion,aclassmightreceivealessonsegment,whichwouldbealessontaughtovermultipleweeks.(Thatwillbeindicated)

3 – Select #9 Marching On Parade LESSON STEPS 1 - Prompt a discussion about parades and marching (football games, holiday parades, etc.) by asking your child, “What are some things we see at Parades?” 2 - First time through watch in the video without stopping. Second time through stop video to: a) Demonstrate what Marching in place looks like. Have your child March with you. B) Pause video to demonstrate the movements: Drummers Drumming, Tuba’s Coming, Audience humming, Trumpets Blaring, Soldiers Daring, People Staring.
3 – 3rd time do not stop the video. Let your child Sing, March in place during the marching section of the song, During the instrument sections, they improvise playing imaginary “air instruments” and creating other parade motions in place. Kids can also create their own motions.

LESSON STEPS
1. Welcome students to music class.
2. Play song. During A, wear a hand puppet and demonstrate motions:
• I will sing hello – cup hands around mouth
• around the world – with palms up high facing forward, trace down the sides of an imaginary globe.
• ‘round the world – same as above
• all over the world – same as above
3. During B, puppet echoes Hola (pronounced OH-la and means Hello in Spanish). Repeat A.
4. Explain that mirror means to make a sound or motion at the same time as another, and echo means to repeat a sound or motion.
5. PREP Lead students through a variety of brief, random motions to practice being a mirror and random sounds to practice being an echo.
6. Play the song again. During A, students sing and mirror your motions. During B, students echo-sing Hola and wave to the puppet.
