Note From the Teacher While teaching division, I noticed several students were really struggling with the process. One particular student really caught my eye, he knew the division facts, but could not remember where to write the numbers for the quotient. His numbers kept ending up in the subtraction section. I searched through the math textbooks for remediation pages and could not find any with boxes and/or the steps broken down. These pages are probably available in lower grades, but not in my curriculum. I decided to make some practice sheets to work with the students who are struggling the most. They need some structure and more practice before working without the boxes. The next step will be to have them set up their problems on graph paper, so the boxes are there if needed. I chose to keep the pages simple, without distractions, and limited the number of problems so they are not overwhelmed. I hope these pages will help your struggling students and/or give you more practice pages as you introduce long division.
