THE HAPS
Our first meeting in the month
of March proved to be costly
for a few of our members. In
particular Art King was
called on the carpet for for
taking a relaxing trip to Lo
Angeles. First of all, who in
their right mind goes to LA
to relax? Secondly, Art
claims he had a great time
seeing the "Phantom of the
Opera" and "Club 33" at
Disneyland where his dinner
for a party of four set Art
back a mere $200.00. Glad you
enjoyed yourself Art, and
thanks for the fifteen dollar
donation. Speaking of
enjoying yourself, Vicki
Lockner received a nice
surprise at the Mountain Home
Ranch where her family
surprised her with a nea'
birthday party. Of course,
Vicki reminded Archie that she
paid for her birthday last
meeting. I guess the birthday
celebration of the year
occured at Rick Franke's home
where his wife invited 80 of
their closest friends. The
good news was 75 of the 80
showed up, the bad news was
Rick was feeling no pain.
if" ngratulations go out to
Leroy Carlenzoli who was
elected as Surveyor
Legislative Chariperson. The
small article (full page)
announcing his appointment
cost his fifteen dollars. The
meeting quickly turned to the
Mystery Rotarian question and
Loretta Slyh didn't have the
answer and donated one dollar.
It turned out that Marilyn
Pratt was the Mystery
Rotarian. After a career in
Personnel Marilyn has decided
td become a certified massage
therapist and is opening her

Alan Helpin of the Santa Rosa
Chamber of Commerce. Alan is
the Economic Development

DISTRICT ASSEMBLY
Gary Doolittle announced that
the Santa Rosa Sunrise will
pay the attendance fee for all
members of our club attending
the District Assembly. The
Assembly is set for April 24th
and 25th. Dinner on the 24th
at 6:30pm will be on each

25th will be paid for by the

to be progressing normally.Dr. Pranke could use help in
the prize dept. Please help!!
BELGIUM ANYONE?

We acquire lots of experiences as well as knowledge in our school life. We had
a wonderful time on July 26 by grace of American students. As we churned up with each
other with bright smile, I felt as if we had been friends from long time before. It'scertain that they had a good time, because they greatly delighted with our plan, such
as games, barbeque and tea ceremony. Of course, we also enjoyed ourselves to the full.
So the day went so quickly. I shall never forget that day.
I would like to see and talk with them again. I want to make myself understood
better in English next time. I'm going to study English harder until my desires comestrue.
R i sa k ami z o n o
I was waiting with exitement for your coming to Kagoshima since I hadn't contacted with foreingers before I entered IEC. I had so many things to ask.
I was very pulsating when you arrived at the International English College. I'dlike to talk with you, but I thought I maybe couldn't make myself understood in English. But my uneasiess was talken away by you, because you made jokes and you spoke to mefriendly. If I don't understand, you exchanged smile with me. I was very happy. So,
I could enjoy sports, many games and barbeque lunch together. I learned a lot by you
such as kindness, positiveness and cheerfulness. They livened up this event with their
cheerfulness. And I will never forget them, especially thier smile to me. It was justlike a day in a dream, but everything was real.
/ want to meet with your smile again.

Thanks to the friends of Santa Rosa, we had a good time this summer. At first, we
were anxious about if the students of Santa Rosa are glad of our plan. But, it was noworrying matter. As soon as we met students, we got along well with them. For me on
good terms with American students was ray first experience. That was a good lesson for me.It was pleasant to play several kinds of games with the students of Santa Rosa. After playing games, we had a barbeque lunch. As we were awfully hungry, we ate our fill.
After the barbeque lunch we talkod in a familiar way. I thought I have known them eversince. This summer was a lasting memory for me. Thank you very much.

I had valuable experiences of communication with American students this summer.I think American students as well as we were able to get something important throughsome games, sports and barbeque lunch. I was very glad that they enjoyed our eventsand they earnestly listened to us. They seemed to be curious about Japanese culture, for example " yukata " which is Japanese casual kimono. Some of us wore for the teaceremony. I wanted them to learn and understand Japanese culture more. If I havea chance to go to America, I'd like to learn their culture as they learned Japan.
When we played volleyball, I realized that American students were very cheerfuland vital compared with us. But we also enjoyed some games as much as they did, because they gave us their vitalities.
While we were arranging the playground for the day, 1 asked a boy who helped uswith carrying the desks, "Haw about Japan?' He answered, " I love Japan! " I feltvery happy and 1 thought this event was very valuable for us. I greatly appreciatetheir coming to our school and giving us wonderful experiences.
Hi tomi Ka n o
We were waiting for to be friends with a beating heart in sunny afternoon. Allthings, decorations, food and games have gotten ready. I chopped about a hundredvegetables for barbeque, boys pitched tent and the first year students decorated themain hall. Everyone hoped American friends would have a good time with us.
We played volleyball and some games. I felt the American students are much thesame as us, which I didn't thought that way before. I've never been to another country, so I seldom meet foreigners who are near my age. We laughed and shared the happyhours together.
I was glad to comunicate with American friends. At the same time 1 felt. I haveto study English harder. Because I want to understand you much more, and I want foreigners to understand us better. Santa Rosa Days and American friends taught me such
important things. Thank you!
Ma sako Kokubu
I will never forget Santa Rosa's friends. If it had not been for this chance, 1would not have changed .my thinking. I learned a lot in short time. Especially, why do1 learn English ? And what is the meaning of true internationalization? I became awareof the real meaning of internationalization. We could know the people's way of think-king through English. There are mamy differences between Japan and America, but I feltthe same sentiment as a person. This experience changed world view of myself. My dreamis make a lot of friends all over the world. To make this dream come true I will brush
up my English.
This memory stays in my mind forever.

Our March 19th meeting found
Rhoann Ponseti leading us in
the pledge of allegiance and
John Watson providing the
invocation. President Archie
quickly got the meeting in t( p
top shape by recognizing Stan
Walker for excessive enjoyment
after hours. It appears that
Stan and company traveled to
San Jose to witness the "SHARK
ATTACK" at the Cow Palace.
Archie felt Stan had too much
fun and levied an enormous
fine. Then if that wasn't
enough President Archie got
into Leroy Carlenzoli's
pocket book for making an
honest living. It seems Lerc^
landed a big job with Mike
Sass and company. Leroy
handed over ten dollars for
the recognition. Mike has yet
to make a contribution. Albert
Handelman has been cutting
into Archies prime time by
teaching a seminar during
Thursday mornings. After a $20
^ ie for misconduct Albert
claimed it wouldn't happen
again. Bill Amos and Daniel
Lambert were each fined five
dollars for not knowing next
years Rotary theme. Although
Del Raby mailed a postcard to
each member promoting the
theme, these two were still in
the dark. Ray Gorman and
Shauna Lorenzen were fined
five dollars each for not
knowing Steve Davis was our

Solar gladly paid $15.00 for
her husbands birthday on 3-21.

Archies first victim, or should

Dale is a recent recepient of that

saying "it sure is great to
be back on the slopes".
You'll remember Randy

Speaking of John Lynch, John

Carol Estes (almost a
military expert) didn't know
who the M.R." was and she
should have. Her lack of
knowledge cost her $3.00.
Nancy Aita knew who the M.R.
was and saved herself the

Thanks John for sharing info.
The truth is but! Stan Walker
did visit the Cow Palace and
enjoyed a Sharks game* Stan
