Story I have been practicing design and illustration in some fashion ever since I started playing in punk rock bands from 14 years of age. Since then, I have spent two years touring the nation playing music, completed a full BFA degree in graphic design at the Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and lent my knowledge in various teaching, teacher assisting, and mentor roles. I am a thinker and a doer. I work very hard at everything I do. I’m well connected, charasimatic, and can fit in just about anywhere.

NEW YORK - According to multiple sources, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has a net wealth that is approximately $19.5 billion. Aside from owning 88% of his company, Bloomberg L.P, Forbes listed Bloom-berg as the 12th richest person in the country (2011). This information be-comes especially interesting when we

WEALTH DISTRIBUTION IN AMERICA

NATIONAL — This is a nationally repre-sentative online sample of respondents, randomly drawn from a panel of more than 1 million Americans in December, 2005. Respondents were rst given a clear deni-tion of wealth and then asked to estimate the current wealth distribution in America as well as oer their own ideal distribution of wealth. The results were overwhelm-ingly uniform in nature, from liberal to conservative voters, men to women, and poor to rich, everyone had the same general idea of our current wealth distribution, as well as dreams for an ideal distribution.

Though our perception of and ideal wealth distribution as a country is generally united, an astonishing truth is exposed when the actual distribution is taken into account where the lower 40% of the nation’s population doesn’t even make up for 1% of its wealth, and the top 20% accounts for 84% of it.

This is a nationally representative online sample of

respondents, randomly drawn from a panel of more

than 1 million Americans, completed the survey in

December, 2005. Respondents’ household income

(median 1/4 $45,000) was similar to that reported in

the 2006 United States census (median 1/4 $48,000),

and their voting pattern in the 2004 election (50.6%

Bush, 46.0% Kerry) was also similar to the actual

outcome (50.8% Bush, 48.3% Kerry). In addition, the

sample contained respondents from 47 states.

We ensured that all respondents had the same working

definition of wealth by requiring them to read the

following before beginning the survey: ‘‘Wealth, also

known as net worth, is defined as the total value of

everything someone owns minus any debt that he or

she owes. A person’s net worth includes his or her

bank account savings plus the value of other things

such as property, stocks, bonds, art, collections, etc.,

minus the value of things like loans and mortgages.’’
