D & J Ambrose Art Team brings you a über polished yet raw and edgy aesthetic.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 5
Our Art Team Collection titled
Neoteric is derived from
90’s cool grunge, angst towards
mainstream society combined
with the slick looking Calvin
Klein Campaigns of the 90s
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 6
Looking very much at sub cultures and movements and micro trends this collection is a reflection of fast paced cult hunters.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 7
The emphasis was on refined simplicity, making the shapes and colour pallet very wearable, all the images wouldn’t look out if place in both consumer and high fashion magazines.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 8
There is a strong, alluring sellable nature to the collection.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 9
At the beginning, the art team led by Darren Ambrose had many meetings, researching raw inspiration and discussing ideas, over the course of a few months those ideas were shared with photographer Jenny Hands as we went through the creative process to develop the ideas into a finished article.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 10
The great thing about the wearability of the clothes styling and hair means this collection is easily adaptable to salon clients from the textural grown out crop look to the billowing shapes with the seamless marbled coppers.

LookBook June 2014 Pg. 24
The magical effects of this collection
are the result of the perfect synergy of the colours used.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 25
Nature produces the most magical colour variations, and working these into hair is truly special.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 26
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 27
The key is to apply colour in such a way that the effect is achieved not matter what the style.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 28
Keeping it subtle is the work of products - to
have a flow in the hair that
compliments the colours.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 29
As in nature, simplicity is
key.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 30
A woman’s beauty is so perfectly complimented by colours inspired by nature.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 31
But more than anything, the clean lines of these cuts mirrors the perfection we find in nature everyday.

The Arrival
This year, Robert Matthew creates a truly beautiful collection that’s highly textural with
definite shapes
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 34
The hair is softer and fluffier than the harsher trends of previous season.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 35
Products to create specific textures are now plentiful so volumising or texturising wave and curls is the new big thing.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 36
Chalk colour will become popular for special occasions or with certain outfits.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 37
Curls will continue to re-emerge as clients start appreciating their natural waves after years of straightening.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 38
Braiding also continues on into the next season but is blended with other sections rather than being its own contraption like in the ‘80s.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 39

Sublime Texture
Charlotte Mensah releases a celebration of the beautiful diversity of Afro hair.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 41
“The idea behind my Texture collection was to create silhouettes that play with light and shade; giving the hair luminosity and an ethereal quality.”
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 42
“Afro hair is so diverse and doesn’t just have
to be straightened out. I felt it was important
to demonstrate that you can still have curly
hair and produce strong shapes, plus use colour to
emphasise those curls.”
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 43
“As well as being influenced by the creative energy in Portobello road where my salon is based, I was also inspired by travelling and my frequent trips to Ghana.”
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 44
“I just love the African wood carvings. I often
see as they show women with elongated necks
and the sculptures really emphasise their beautiful
cheekbones and lips which I wanted to emulate in my
collection.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 45
“That’s why the make-up highlights each model’s bone structure by contouring the cheeks, then the dark smokey eyes and nude lips emphasise the glow and healthy shine of their skin.”
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 46
“Ultimately for me, this collection really
is a celebration of the beautiful diversity
of Afro hair and demonstrates that
it can look beautiful, whatever the texture.”

Stripped
Michelle Rooney brings us a back to basics series in this collection inspired by Chanel.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 49
Body built with the most elemental of structures, the braid.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 50
Fringes that are merely straight lines to give as little
distraction as possible to the colour and shape.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 51
Gentle tapering off the neck leaves eyes to wander the detail in the colours and intricate edging.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 52
An illusion of wind is simply created with an upsweep of hair from the hairline.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 53
Undoing the style results in a free-flowing tousle of
hair.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 54
Blended colours mimic the simplicity of what’s found
in nature.
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 55
“I wanted the focus to be purely on the hair and stripped back all the other elements so the texture and colour of hair in each image done the talking”
LookBook June 2014 Pg. 56
