he stage is set for one of the best battles ever totake place in a rodeo arena. The Timed EventChampionship of the World (TEC) will return to
the Fabulous Lazy E Arena on March 4th, 5th, and6th, 2011 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. The “Ironman Eventof Pro Rodeo” will showcase a “Champion vs.Champion” format that includes a cast of Pro Rodeoall stars including 6-time TEC and 14-time PRCAWorld Champion Trevor Brazile and last year’sChampion – All-Around cowboy Josh Peek ofPueblo, Colorado. The TEC annually features twenty of
the world’s best cowboys in theProfessional Rodeo CowboysAssociation (PRCA) competingin pro rodeo’s mostunique event that isoften referred to as“The Ironman” — it is a truetest of versatility and stamina. Each contestant is requiredto compete in all fivetimed events: tie-downroping, steer roping, heading, heeling and steerwrestling – over five rounds in three days. Eachround of competition features excitement with theleaders changing after every run, with only secondsseparating them. The champion isn’t determineduntil the last rope is thrown, the flag is dropped andthe clock has stopped. The TEC was developed by the Lazy E in 1985 to
determine the best all-around timed event cowboy inthe world — the man who could stand out in morethan his specialty event, the man who could beconsistent in all five timed events. The majority oftoday’s professional rodeo cowboys no longercompete in multiple events, but specialize in one, possibly two. This event attracts the biggest names inthe rodeo industry that correlates into 45 WorldChampionship titles, in addition to thousands of fansrepresenting 48 states from across the country! Someof the Champions scheduled to compete for the$150,000 purse against the current “King of Rodeo”Trevor Brazile and the defending Champion - JoshPeek, include K.C. Jones, Kyle Lockett, JimmieCooper, Paul Tierney, Daniel Green, Russell Cardoza,Steve Duhon, Scott Snedecor and Ryan Jarrett.
Families will enjoy all of the activities planned forthe performances. VIP ticket prices are $37…BoxSeats $30…Reserved Bleachers $25…and GeneralAdmission $20. Children 10 and under FREE ingeneral admission thanks to KWTV News 9. Groupand multiple performance discounts are alsoavailable…call (800) 595-RIDE for complete details. Aportion of the proceeds from the 2011 Timed EventChampionship will be donated to the NationalCowboy and Western Heritage Museum inOklahoma City. The Lazy E is proud to support thisinstitution for western preservation!Tickets are available at all ticketmaster outlets,

leading the Timed EventChampionship with onerun left. He took a 60-
second time in the steer roping, the equivalent of a no-time at the TEC, and droppedto a fourth place finish. Last year, he was againleading the average with one run remaining. Thistime, the 30-year-old tied his steer down in 18.4seconds to clinch the title of 2010 Timed EventChampion of the World with 315.2 on 25 runs. Hewas the 11th man to win the title in the 26 years ofthe TEC. Peek went to the lead in the third round onthe 14th run of the weekend. However, on the 19thrun a fast running draw led to a 27.5 in the steerwrestling. He would end the fourth go in secondplace. In the fifth round, Peek dropped to third. Theteam roping - heeling shuffled the deck as K.C. Jonesof Burlington, Wyo., a four-time TEC Champion, dropped to third. Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, asix-time TEC Champion, moved to the lead in theaverage and Peek went to second after 23 head. Inthe steer wrestling, Brazile had a tough steer, suffering a 60-second time. So, Peek tossed his drawin 4.1 seconds for 296.8 on 24 and the lead, with onerun remaining. Jones was second. In the steer roping,Jones was 18-seconds for 343.0 on 25. Peek neededto be 46.1 for the win and was 18.4. In addition towinning $50,000 for the average, Peek, a two-time

Nolan Co. Coliseum is one ofthe few warm places torope calves in January and
the really cold weather that wasexpected in Sweetwater stayedaway making for a good roping. The story of the weekend wasthree of the champions winning

A special thanks to my sponsors for supporting not only me, but also the sport that lets me do what I love.
TM
ately I’ve been wondering if Ihave been doing a good job
raising my two sons. Thismade me watch other parentsand I’ve come to realize thatsociety is obsessed with winning –at all costs. I see this in JuniorRodeo, softball, football and anyother sport where kids compete. This obsession is easy to seewhether it’s a parent screaming atthe referee or buying a little kid a$30,000 horse that he doesn’t need.
It’s win at any cost instead ofwhat it should be, which is tocompete to the best of yourability and have fun doing it. Myseven-year-old son plays flag
football, so how muchimportance do I put on winningversus competing? Myphilosophy is to give it your bestand have fun.
I’m not trying to raise aprofessional flag football player atseven – but at the same time it’simportant to train to win – butnot at all costs. Because whenyou compete to win at all costshow will you handle defeat? Doyou play the blame game wherethere’s always an excuse why youdidn’t win? Or do you comedown very hard on your kid fornot winning, to the point whereit makes them resentful of you,
the sport and competition? Theseare negative things that comefrom “win at all costs” versus “doyour best and enjoy yourself.”
I have a saying when it comesto raising kids: “Some is taught, but most is caught.” Therefore Ilive my life a lot louder throughexample than by my words. Ihave two sons who are oppositeswhen it comes to competing. Oneis very tender hearted, doesn’twant to hurt people and he’s alover. My other son is highlycompetitive and will bloody yournose to beat you. I have to bevery strategic in how I coach andtrain them.

The winning will take care ofitself if a child is meant tocompete for a living. That kidwill develop the competitive edgewhen the time is right. As a kid Iwas discouraged from ropingbecause my family knew what ahard life this could be. That justmotivated me all the more andmeant that I was really meant todo it. When I wanted to rope I
Have you ever asked yourself this question,“What is the most important thing in my
life?” In other words, what really matters toyou? I would propose this—that if the mostimportant thing in your life doesn’t reallymatter for eternity, then chances are good thatpriorities are faulty. Matthew 6:33 says, “Butseek ye first the kingdom of God and Hisrighteousness, and all these things will beadded unto you.”In our world we are encouraged to set goals.
Those goals consist of, without fail, who weare and what we do. We always have time todo the things that are the most important to us.If God is most important to us, we will, without a doubt, make Him our priority.Whether times are uncertain or prosperous, I
believe these three things are a good standardto live by. First, I believe that if I honor God ineverything, He will honor me. If I consistentlyseek Him in everything I do, He will rescue mein all situations. If I take short-cuts,compromise my character and refuse to obeyGod, I don’t believe I should expect Hisintervention. The second principal that I live by is that
people matter. I believe that God’s true treasureis people. If we show sensitivity and mercy topeople, God will show sensitivity and mercy tous. Fill in the blanks!Third, I believe that the local church is the
hope of the world. I believe it’s important forus to understand the value of the local churchand to realize that it has inherited somehypocrites. But we should not allow theignorance of man to confuse us about the loveof God.Any decision we make that affects our lives,
our families’ lives or the lives of those wespend time with—if it is a choice that has apositive effect on eternity, one that helpspeople know Christ—those are “eternitydecisions” we should jump on that like a rat ona Cheeto! You may say, “Preacher, this sounds
radical.’’ But I’m saying to you, “Welcome tothe real world!” We should be willing not onlyto do whatever it takes in order to change ourown lives, but to present our passion topeople in a way that they are attracted to thelife, and the life-style that we are all called to.Character and integrity are still huge words inthe English language!

I have read the past couple of press releases concerning theinvitation of 2010 USTRC Open Champions, the 2010 PBR Champion and the 2010 CBRchampion being invited, but never realized theywere taking the complete control of thegoverning body of the rodeo until I talked to afriend of mine the other day and he let me inon it.This morning I had to make sure myself and
got onto the RodeoHouston website to findout. Sure enough Rodeo Houston is prettymuch an open rodeo. “Wow!” is all I can say.Of course you have to be invited or go througha qualification process, but it is sure enoughopen to the world. This may be forward progression toward a
new step in the world of rodeo and I applaudRodeoHouston for taking it. I have said beforeand still believe, the PRCA does a great job asthe overall rodeo association, but if the sportwants to continue to grow, it needs tocapitalize on its stars. I believe a tour or seriestype season with limited qualified contestantsis the key to the future of rodeo. Take the topten to fifteen in the world and allow them tocompete at a select few rodeos throughout thecountry and see what happens. Folks will gettheir butts back in the stands to see the best ofthe best compete. Stars will be born and whoknows, the sport could grow to where therodeo cowboy stars will be household namesJust in case you are wondering, here is
a quick overview of the 2011 RodeoHoustonformat.
