A big year at WGPS! 2018 has been a big year for our school. We have seen a number of changes and have been a part of some wonderful experiences. I would like to share some highlights with you.
In term one, we welcomed our new Kindergarten students and some new teachers. Year 4 had a ball on their camp at the Nepean Adventure Centre & K-2 had a fantastic day at their Athletics Carnival. Who can forget the inspiring Invictus Games and visit from Mr Gary Robinson! Onto the Cantabile Choir at one of our city’s most famous icons, the Sydney Opera House to COS Concert, State Dance and Choir performances, this term was truly full of exciting opportunities. It is hard to believe that the 2018 school year is almost over! It is no surprise this year has flown by; we have certainly had some fun times throughout the year. Thank you to all Defence families for your support, I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you and your beautiful children. I am excited to continue the support as DSM for 2019 and looking forward to the excitement that a new school year brings. To all our families heading off to new locations at the end of this year, I wish you a safe journey and a smooth transition into your new homes and schools. I believe your children are well prepared to manage and embrace the challenges and the fun ahead of them. Farewell packs for all Defence students who are leaving will be handed out in the next few days. If your children have a Defence Posting Passport, please bring them in to me to be stamped before you leave. Any student that does not already have this passport will receive one in their pack.
I would like to wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and New Year!

looking forward to it. We have learnt so
much and experienced many different and
exciting things. We welcomed Ava into our
class and farewelled Lilli and Holly. Thanks

Following are comments on our
year...Tayla...We read big books like, ‘The
Smartest Giant in Town’ and then my class
Page 10
does activities about the book. Aiyana... In
Gymnastics we got to do cartwheels and
handstands and we got to wear our sports
uniform. I am very good at gymnastics.
Alexis...I liked doing directed drawing art
lessons. Addison…Yay! It’s Wednesday and
we get to do Technology. I learnt how to
make posters, google slides and google
classroom and learnt to log on by ourselves.
Gelsie...I like Mrs Brunner. I get to learn to
speak and write English better. Holly...I like
mufti days. Bronte and Aleisha…We liked
doing our item. We got to dance and sing
with our friends. Our item was, ‘Stop Look
Listen Think’. We had a sign on our tops. We
wore traffic lights, stop signs or pedestrian
crossings. Some people were traffic. We
taught the children road safety messages.
(This was also my favourite memory of the
year. I was very proud of all the children. It
is so exciting that our item is now featured
on the Department of Education website.
Miss Stevens) Hayley...I like spelling groups.
They are competitive and fun. Lilly... I love
doing sport. We can play catching games and
we can play dog and the bone. Ava...I like my
new school and my new friends. James...We
went to the aquarium and we saw lots of sea
animals. The best thing was going on the
little boats and seeing the penguins up close.
It was bumpy but fun. Liam...I loved footy
fun day the best. Caleb…I love listening to
stories and answering questions. Levi…I like
doing the red comprehension box because it
makes me think about the questions and
learn new words like, ‘orphan’. Zion…I like

school. Ayman...I liked to dress up on B Day.
I dressed up as batman. So many people
dressed up as batman. Andy...I like the

is doing Science. I liked doing the
experiment where we had to see which
liquids would freeze. Oil did not freeze.
Mason...Partner Plays are good fun. You get
to practise reading with expression and
fluency and in a loud clear voice. My partner
is Aleisha. Declan...I like doing recounts. We
have to put capital letters at the start and
full stops at the end of sentences. Sizzling
starts are the most fun bits of recounts.
They make the recount sound much more
exciting than just…On Saturday or Sunday!

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were all in the hall awaiting the fate of which class you would be in for Year 5. We walked to our room and this quickly become a place where we would share stories, work a little, talk constantly, work a little, share many laughs and the occasional tears. We can certainly say that something was always happening in 5 Amethyst’s room. We would like to thank those of you who helped us maintain our sanity – you know who you are. Dear Parents,
I give you back your child, the same child you
entrusted to my care at the beginning of the year.
I give your child back kilos heavier, centimetres
taller, older, wiser, more responsible and more
mature. Although they would have attained this
growth in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and
privilege to watch their personality unfold day by
day and marvel at this splendid miracle of
development.
I give your child back reluctantly, for having spent
this year together in the narrow confines of a
crowded classroom, we have grown close, have
become a part of each other, and we shall always
retain a little of each other.
Years from now if we met on the street, your child
and I, a light will shine to our eyes, a smile to our
lips, and we shall feel the bond of understanding
once more, this bond we feel today.
We have lived, loved, laughed, played, studied,
learned, and enriched our each other's lives this
year. I wish we could go on together, but give them
back I must. Remember that I will always be
interested in your child and their destiny,
wherever they go, whatever they do, whoever they
become. Their joys and sorrows I’ll be happy to
share. Thank you for sharing your child with me
and our class. This year has been a joy.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a safe and
happy holiday. Donna Robinson

A message for 5/6 Tuscany…
What a year it has been in 5/6 Tuscany! I couldn’t have asked for a more diverse, dynamic and vibrant group of students for my first year at Wattle Grove Public School. You should be incredibly proud of your achievements throughout the year just as I am incredibly proud of each of you. 5T, I wish you all the very best as you head into your final year of primary school; and 6T, enjoy the exciting adventures that high school has to offer. T – is for your diverse talents. Within our class we have amazing athletes, artists and performers, as well as brilliant academics, engineers and technology experts. U – is for your uniqueness and your unlimited drive to want to understand and learn more. You have continued to amaze me with your interest in sophisticated topics and your willingness to share your knowledge with each other. S – is for being superb socialites. Most of you love the social factor that school provides, and I truly hope that you maintain the friendships that you have developed and nurtured this year. C – is for the care, compassion and concern you genuinely have for your close peers. These are such wonderful qualities which are truly valued by others. A – is for your amazing achievements within and beyond the classroom. Your enthusiasm to participate in academic and extra-curricular opportunities is inspiring, and many of you have proudly represented the school, region or state on the sporting field, on the stage or in the academic arena. N – is for your ‘never give up’ attitude. You have continued to develop and demonstrate increased persistence and resilience when faced with different challenges. Y – is for you. I would like to thank each of you for making this a year to remember.
Enjoy the holiday break and best wishes for every success and
happiness in 2019 and always.

Dear Parents/Carers I would just like to take one last opportunity in 2018 to say a huge thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and carers who assisted the P&C this year. Our successful year in 2018, is a wonderful tribute to the commitment and dedication of this P&C along with the wonderful support of our school Principal and Deputy Principal and teachers. We are all part of this amazing group for the benefit of our children, the students and this wonderful school we are all proud to be a part of. I would like to say thank you to the parents who took on the role of CPR for a class this year. It was great to see information being circulated to families via emails, Facebook pages and text messages. It was great to see our messages being sent out and parents responding and asking questions and participating within these groups. Thank to our parents for making this initiative successful in 2018. New CPR notes will be send home with students in February for our 2019 classes. It has been another wonderful year for our Fundraising Team. Discos, Easter Raffle, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, a Comm Games-A-Thon and let’s not forget Cookie Dough. Thank you to Maria Lee and the team for continuing to host these events for our students and families. We truly appreciate the effort spent on organizing all of these activities so that we can provide better materials and an enriching environment for our students. In 2018 we have provided the funds for a number of new developments at school including: - The new PA and Bell system
- Chrome books
- Year 6 Polo shirts
- Zone Participant Swimming Caps
