Netball Knockout On Thursday 17th March our Stage 3 Netball team competed in the Netball Knockout Day. The first game was against North Griffith PS. The girls showed great sportsmanship and skill development throughout the game. The final score was 16-11 to North. GPS then played a friendly match against Hanwood PS which was a lot of fun! Miss Brain and Miss Middleton were very proud of all the girls’ hard work on the day and during training. Congratulations to Moerai Rangirua and Beyonce Marela who were selected to trial for the Griffith Zone Netball. Unfortunately they did not make it this time, but what a great achievement and experience. The team consisted of Beyonce Marela, Moerai Rangirua, Siuaki Tuiaki, Tangata Toru, Latisha Tia, Tanisha Lualua, Shakira Carberry, Minata Misi, Serena Ngu and Sialalua Asomua. Thank you to Miss Brain and Miss Middleton for coaching and managing the team.

K-6 Easter Church Services Children in Kindergarten to Year 6, who attend weekly Religious Instruction lessons (Scripture), will visit the Anglican, Catholic, Uniting or the Baptist church on Thursday 24th March at 11:30am for a special Easter service. Travel will be by bus. Children are asked to bring in a gold coin donation to their classroom teacher as soon as possible, to cover the cost of the buses, which are being funded by the local churches. If you do not want your child to participate in this event, please advise your child’s classroom teacher. Forensic Science Workshop The gold is gone! The jewels are too! Three sneaky thieves have broken into the warehouse and made off with the loot, but when they are arrested it is nowhere to be found. When, a few days later, a security guard from the crime scene is attacked on his boat, the police need the help of the forensic scientists to track down the crooks and recover the missing items. Griffith Public School students from Years 3 to 6 will be the forensic team! They will have to look at all the clues and interpret the evidence using digital microscopes, UV detection, DNA, code cracking and chemical testing. This fun and interactive workshops meet many of the working scientifically outcomes of the Science curriculum and is an important part of our teaching of Science. The workshop is fully funded by the school. There is no cost to students as the school is funding the event. The workshop presented by Education Interactive, tours schools nationally and will be coming to Griffith Public on Thursday March 31st. GPS 3-6 Cross Country Carnival Our Annual Cross Country Carnival will be held on Friday 1st April and all students in Years 3 to 6 are encouraged to participate. Participation in school sporting events counts towards student achievement for the GPS All Stars When: Friday 1st April Where: Lake Wyangan Picnic Area

It is ok to feel uncomfortable, unsure, confused or even a little bit sick when we are in the learning pit. This means we are working

hard at learning something new. In our groups we are designing our own learning pits.

Griffith ANZAC Ceremony 2016 All students are invited to march and attend the Griffith ANZAC Day Service on Monday the 25th of April. Staff and our school captains will meet students at 10.15am in the area outside the Griffith Art Gallery (pink building in Banna Avenue). Students must be dressed in their summer school uniform, including black shoes and navy socks. They should also bring their school hats. It is important to attend this event as we are honouring soldiers who have represented and fought for Australia to be the safe and free country that it is today. Our school has been invited to lead the Griffith Community in singing the New Zealand National Anthem at this year's ANZAC Day Ceremony in Memorial Park on Monday 25th April. Our primary students and choir have been learning the New Zealand anthem and are delighted to have been asked to lead the whole of Griffith in song. We would like to invite all families that know the New Zealand National Anthem to join us at the ceremony and help us sing the anthem with pride. We will be leading the song from our spot in the audience to avoid disruption to the proceedings on the day. Miss Halliday and Mrs McWhirter are very excited for the members of our school community to be taking part in the singing God Defend New Zealand for the first time at the Griffith ANZAC Service. Following the march and ceremony in town students are once again invited to visit the Griffith Cemetery and place flowers provided on ex-servicemen and women’s graves (1007 in total). These graves are marked with little white crosses. The organiser of this activity, Mrs Marg Tucker, has also requested donations of flowers if possible. Our school ANZAC ceremony will be held on Wednesday 27th April. All parents are welcome to attend the ceremony held at the flagpole where we will meet at 11a.m. A note went home yesterday with Year 6 students inviting them to attend our special school luncheon at a cost of $5.00 each. Could they please return the money and note by Friday 1st April.
