ABOUT THE SHOW

This year’s theme, Christmas Bells Are Ringing!, will give fans a huge hint about her

upcoming show. Yes, bells are back! After a two-year hiatus from bell ringing, this

year’s show promises to please Line’s audience as she brings happy bell ringing back

to the stage, along with a brand new 2011 collector bell.

“I love making my fans happy during the holiday season,” says Line. “Times are tough

for a lot of people these days, and I get the opportunity to take everyone to a great

place for just a couple of hours. That will definitely be on my mind as I develop and

perform the show this year.”

Known for her unique arrangements and musical style, Line has been recording and

producing more music than ever. This year will mark her 26th CD and Music Book and

will feature all brand new Christmas music. Line has a huge following of piano players

and just recently published her third beginner book in a series called “Practice, Practice,

Practice!” Sure to be a big hit, this is her first holiday book for young pianists.

“My favorite show to produce is beautifully elegant, simple, yet glamorous. I guess

that would be a true reflection of my every day life — simple with a little kick of glam.”

On stage with Line this year will be just five of her favorite musicians to accompany her,

affectionately known as the “Fab Five,” The year’s cast features the playful Dave

Budimir on trombone; rocker David Young on guitar; wacky Nate Babbs on drums;

funky Ben Kelly on bass, and the classic beauty Maureen Nilsen on violin.

Known for her over-the-top costumes, Line plans to wear the latest and greatest from

world famous fashion designers as well as a few of her personal “show stoppers” from

the past, created by designer Jack Edwards, who is now retired.

ABOUT THE ARTISTHer story...Growing up in Reno, Nevada, LorieLine's first audience was her fellowkindergarten classmates. At age 5 sheremembers playing familiar tunes for herfamily and friends, without knowing howto read music. Just from hearing it, shecould play it. Her parents first noticedshe had a “gift” when from anotherroom in the house, she yelled to her Dadto correct a note while he was playing asong on the family piano. When she toldhim the note he should have played, they were astonished that she knew thenote by name and sound. She hadperfect pitch.

It was from that point that her parentsgot her going with piano lessons, andannual competitions became Lorie'spassion. She started entering city-wideclassical competitions at the age of 9and won her first first-place trophy inthe 12-year old division that same year.By the time she was 15, she had wonseven competitions, all first-place, andshe had saved $1000 in award money. She proudly bought her first car, a 1966Mustang, from her winnings. It was thenthat she realized it was possible to makea living playing the instrument sheloved.

In her senior year of high school, sheentered Nevada's Junior Miss, hoping towin the talent division to pay for her carinsurance (the award was $300). To hersurprise, she won the title, and went onto compete at the national level forAmerica’s Junior Miss. Although shedidn't win any national awards, she didcome home with a college scholarship.Continuing to study music was a dreamcome true.

Lorie was the first person in her familyhistory to get a college degree. Sheattended one year at Florida College, and then obtained a B.A. in Music fromthe University of Nevada, specializing inPiano Performance. “I'm probably theonly person out there with a degree inPiano Performance who is actuallyperforming. . .” says Line. Her first full-time performance job was at Dayton’s,Minneapolis, in 1988 where sheserenaded shoppers. “This job was aperfect fit for me because I got to playeverything by ear . . . which is my thing.”On the shopping floor she would playher own arrangements off the cuff, drawing an immediate audience to herunique “Lorie Line style.” Fans wouldcome to the store, not only to shop, butto hear her play and it was from theirencouragement that Lorie decided torecord her first album. This was thebeginning of Lorie Line Music, Inc.

Two albums later, and having neverdone this before, Lorie started writingmore complex arrangements thatincluded accompanying instrumentsthat she loved. She knew what shewanted to hear and how theseinstruments could provide color andtexture to her piano arrangements. Soshe purchased a computerized piano(Yamaha Clavinova) that featured thesound of each instrument in anorchestra, and taught herself how towrite within each instrument’s range. She found local musicians to play hernewly created music. The arrangementswere soon recorded, and the musiciansbegan to accompany Lorie at her liveconcerts. This became the beginnings ofher famous tag line “& her Pop ChamberOrchestra.”

Each year, Lorie continued to put outanother album . . . and another one.Touring the Midwest expanded, and herhusband Tim joined forces with Lorieand became the Master of Ceremonies, introducing her to new audiences acrossthe country. The Pop ChamberOrchestra began traveling each yearwith the dynamic duo, and THEHOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA! soonbecame a family tradition.

Piano-playing fans became excited atthe possibility of getting the actualsheet music of Lorie’s arrangements. So,the next challenge was to write it alldown . . . to document the notes andmake the arrangements accessible.Knowing that there wouldn’t be apublishing company who would printher music, she started her ownpublishing wing at Lorie Line Music, Inc.

Today, her passion for making her pianomusic accessible and playable for bothchildren and adults is a reality. She has

released 28 complete books of music, with her two newest, Practice, Practice,Practice, Book Three and ChristmasBells Are Ringing! this year’s brand newholiday releases. Her published musichas been the largest growth area in herbusiness.

Lorie prides herself in never taking onebusiness course, yet she owns and runsthe largest woman-owned independentrecord company in the country. Sheattributes her success to the basics —hard work, talent, perseverance, “gutinstinct”, balance, and a natural “gift”from God. She puts her personal stampon everything, from color themes andgraphic design to the one-of-a-kindbreathtaking gowns and flashycostumes, to set design and decoratingit, to every note written on each score(and she still uses her computerizedpiano). She has released 36 CDs, withsales exceeding 6 million copies.

Lorie has helped to raise hundreds ofthousands of dollars for charitiesbenefiting children, specificallyChildren's Cancer Research Fund, TheJade Foundation (with Minnesota'sformer First Lady Terry Ventura),Children’s Hospital of Minneapolis, TheAnne Carlsen Center for Children inJamestown, North Dakota, The OronoAlliance for Education (her children'sschool district in Minneapolis), andGillette Children’s Specialty Healthcarein St. Paul.

Lorie has been married for 25 years toher business partner, Tim. They haveworked and toured together for 22years. Residing in Minneapolis, they haveone adult daughter who lives inColorado, and a son who is a senior inhigh school.
