CLOSING IN ON THE TOP: The Dodgers will continue their 10-
game road trip (2-1), as they will begin a three-game matchup against
the National League Central’s Cincinnati Reds tonight. After taking the
important three-game set from Colorado with a 9-6 victory yesterday,
Los Angeles now trails the first-place Rockies by just 0.5-game for the
division lead in a tight race at the top of the National League West. The
Dodgers have picked it up in crunch time as they have now won 11 of
their last 15 games since August 24 and have also gone 4-1 in five
games on the road during that time. Following the three-game set
against the Reds, the Boys in Blue will travel to St. Louis for a four-
game weekend series to close out the 10-game road trip.
The Dodgers have won five of their last six road games and
are currently 39-29 (.574) on the road this season. The clubs
.574 winning percentage is the second best in the National
League away from home, trailing just the Atlanta Braves.
SEEING RED: The Dodgers look to bounce back against the Reds as
they were swept by Cincinnati in a four-game series at Dodger Stadium
earlier in the year (May 10-13). It was the first time the club was swept
by the Redlegs in a four-game set since August 5-8, 1976, losing all
four-games at the Ravine. Despite the four straight losses, the Dodgers
have held the upper hand against Cincinnati, winning 17 of 24 games
against the Reds since the start of the 2015 campaign.
The Dodgers swept the Reds in a three-game series last year
in Cincinnati and have won their last five games at the Great
American Ball Park. Since the beginning of the 2014 season,
the Boys in Blue have won 10 of 14 games in Cincy.
WOOD WORK: Left-hander Alex Wood will take the mound for the
Dodgers tonight for his team-leading 27th start of the season as he looks
to collect his ninth win of the year. Despite recording a no-decision in
his last outing a week ago against the Mets at Dodger Stadium, Wood
allowed just one run on five hits and struck out three over 5.0 innings.
In his last 13 starts since June 16, the southpaw has been very effective,
going 7-1 with a 2.39 ERA (20 ER/75.1 IP) and holding hitters to a .229
average. During that span, he has allowed three runs or fewer in each
start, which according to Stats LLC., is tied for the third longest active
streak:
Most Consecutive Starts Allowing 3 Runs or Fewer, Active Streaks
(min. one start in 2018)
Streak Streak Began
Jacob deGrom, NYM 25 4/16/2018
Ryne Stanek, TB 25 5/26/2018
Alex Wood, LAD 13 6/16/2018
Dereck Rodriguez, SF 13 6/14/2018
In five career games (four starts) against the Reds, Wood has
gone 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA (8 ER/29.1 IP) and has limited the
opposition to a .184 average. He has also struck out 22 batters
against just seven walks and has posted a 0.85 WHIP. In two
career starts at the Great American Ball Park, the southpaw has
allowed just two runs over 13.2 innings (1.32 ERA) and has
held Reds hitters to a .178 average (8-for-45).
On the year, Wood is 8-6 with a 3.37 ERA (54 ER/144.1 IP)
and has struck out 125 batters against 35 walks. He has held
hitters to a .244 average, while posting a 1.17 WHIP, which is
the 15th lowest among qualified NL starters.
Since the All-Star break, Dodger starters have posted the
second best ERA in the Major League’s with a 2.98 mark (92
ER/277.2 IP) in 47 games, trailing just the Diamondbacks’
2.93 ERA. The club’s starters also rank among the best in the
Majors in opponents’ on-base percentage (.277, 2nd), WHIP
(1.08, 2nd), opponent’s batting average (.223, 3rd), opponents’
OPS (.649, 3rd), strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.24, 3rd) and
opponents’ slugging percentage (.372, 5th) during that span.
THE ALL-STAR SERIES: Earlier today, Major League Baseball and
Major League Baseball Players Association jointly announced the first
wave of players who are expected to represent the MLB team in the
2018 Japan All-Star Series with Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
Dodger infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor was one of nine players
included in the first wave and he will travel to Japan to play seven games
across the country from November 8-15.
TOO HOT TO HANDLE: Dodger third baseman Justin Turner kept
his hot bat going as he finished with a career-high tying four hits (eighth
time) in yesterday’s contest. Turner, who went 4-for-5 with two runs,
two doubles, a home run, two RBI and a walk, reached base safely in
all six plate appearances (reached base via error), becoming the first
Dodger player to reach base safely six times in a game since Chase
Utley on July 6, 2016 vs. Baltimore. He has reached base safely in 32
of his last 33 games since being reinstated from the disabled list on
August 2 and during that span, he is slashing .386 (49-for-127)/
.477/.709 with 28 runs scored, 15 doubles, one triple, eight home runs
and 23 RBI. He has also been hit by six pitches and has drawn 16 walks
against 22 strikeouts. Turner’s batting average, on-base percentage,
slugging percentage and OPS during that time all rank the best in the
big leagues.
Since the All-Star Break, Turner is hitting .385 with a 1.181
OPS in 35 games, which both rank among one the best marks
in baseball. According to Stats LLC., the only other Dodger
with a higher OPS after the All-Star break in franchise history
was Manny Ramirez in 2008 (1.232).
Against left-handed pitchers this season, Turner is hitting .351
(33-for-94) with 10 doubles, three homers and 13 RBI along
with a 1.031 OPS. Among NL hitters with 100 or more plate
appearances against southpaws, his batting average ranks third
best in the league, while his OPS ranks sixth.
Turner has hit well against the Reds in his career, batting .305
(36-for-118) with 19 runs, three doubles, one triple, four home
runs and 17 RBI along with a .378 on-base percentage. He has
reached base safely in 16 of 18 games at Great American Ball
Park, hitting .318 (21-for-66) with a .870 OPS. Turner was
originally selected by Cincinnati in the seventh round of the
2006 First-Year Player Draft.
DIGGING THE DINGERS: The Dodgers offense added two more
home runs to their National League leading homer total (200) yesterday,
courtesy of a solo shot by Kiké Hernández and a two-run bomb by
Justin Turner. The 200 total longballs hit by Los Angeles is 12 more
than the Brewers and the Cardinals in the NL and ranks second in the
Majors behind only the Yankees (232). The Dodger record for homers
in a season is 221, established last year.
Hernández took the first pitch he saw from Rockies starter
Tyler Anderson and launched his 20th home run of the year, as
he recorded his first 20-homer season. Hernández, who
became the fourth Dodger to hit 20 or more longballs this year,
has been hot since the start of August, slashing .316 (24-for-
76)/.400/.539 with 14 runs, six doubles, one triple, three home
runs and 10 RBI.
The Dodgers have now homered in 17 consecutive games,
which ties a Los Angeles Dodger record with the 1960 and
2017 clubs. The 17 straight games with a home run is also the
longest streak in the Majors this season:
Most Consecutive Games With 1+ HR, MLB 2018
Dodgers 17 8/21/2018 - 9/09/2018 (active)
Phillies 16 5/02/2018 - 5/21/2018

Astros 15 6/23/2018 - 7/08/2018
White Sox 15 8/07/2018 - 8/23/2018

The only time the Dodgers have hit a home run in more
consecutive games was 1953 when they hit one in 24 straight
games from June 18 through July 10.
The 200 home runs on the season is the seventh time the club
has hit 200 or more home runs in franchise history (also: 1953,
1955, 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2017).
