  • Lotto NRFL 2015 Welcome

The national cup competitions are set to disrupt the Lotto NRFL action again this weekend, particularly in the premier divisions, but there is still plenty to look forward to. There are no matches in the Womens Premier and only two in the mens top flight but its nearly a full schedule further down and many of the match-ups will be vital to the prospects of each side. In Division One, Forrest Hill-Milford United have a great opportunity to establish a foothold at the top of the table in meeting Takapuna in a northern derby while Ellerslie need to beat Manurewa to keep in touch with the leading duo, Forrest Hill and North Shore. The western derby between Oratia United and Te Atatu will be intriguing in Division Two while Manukau City cant afford to slip up against AFC Fury if they are to continue their promotion push. In the programme this week, we preview these games and all others, as well as featuring photos from Phototek of two recent matches. In the spotlight were Manukaus thrilling 3-2 win over Fencibles United in Division Two and Three Kings Uniteds nil-all draw with Eastern Suburbs in the Womens Premier. As always, we also have all the up-to-date tables, team progress graphs, golden boot charts and squads so there is a wealth of info at your fingertips! Our Lotto NRFL social media platforms continue to be the place to go for all score updates, results, goal details and other news - be sure to tag us @LottoNRFL with your updates from the sideline! Good luck for your game!

    Programme 2015

    Melville United vs Onehunga Sports

Kiwitea Street | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Mazhar Batoor Assistant Referees: Carl Watkins, Hubert Bakx

Melvilles season of woe continued last weekend with a 4-0 thumping at Birkenhead but they do still have a glimmer of hope in their battle to avoid the drop as they have played at least two games less than all the sides above them. They will need to start winning soon though so three points here is a must. On paper, Sports have one of the most talented squads in the league so will be disappointed with their current mid-table placing. They now have one of their most potent attacking weapons back on deck in the form of Stuart Holthusen, who returns after being part of New Zealands squad at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Western Springs vs Hamilton Wanderers Seddon Fields | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 5pm | Referee: Nick Waldron Assistant Referees: Ben Norman, Rajesh Kumar

The golden run of Western Springs finally came to an end in the previous round with a 4-2 loss to Eastern Suburbs, the first time Neil Emblens men have not tasted victory in six matches. They will be looking to make sure that defeat is not extended into a poor run but wouldve hoped for a kinder follow-up fixture than a visit by third-placed Wanderers. The away side will be smarting after being beaten 3-2 by Central and, with leading pair Eastern Suburbs and Glenfield not in league action this weekend, they have an excellent opportunity to make up ground here.

    50 Years of Local Pride

    Programme 2015

    Mt Albert-Ponsonby vs Hibiscus Coast

Anderson Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Martin Neale Assistant Referees: John McCoskrie, Pat Barrett

These sides had contrasting results last time out, Hibiscus Coast putting in a good shift to hold leaders North Shore to a draw while Mt Albert suffered a heavy defeat at Tauranga. The nature of that loss will have been particularly disappointing for Mt Albert as they were on the wrong end of some big scorelines earlier in the season but appeared to have put those days behind them with more competitive performances in recent weeks.

Ngaruawahia United vs Metro Centennial Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Bruce Horrox Assistant Referees: Mark Owens, Andy Holdsworth

The only consolation for Ngaruawahia in shipping five unanswered goals to Forrest Hill last weekend was the news that the sides closest to them on the ladder, Takapuna and Waiuku, also stumbled to losses. That meant the damage to their positioning was minimal but the psychological blow will still have been significant and they must show plenty of character to bounce back here. Metro have scored over twice as many goals as the hosts so will go in as favourites.

Takapuna vs Forrest Hill-Milford United Taharoto Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Cory Mills Assistant Referees: Neil Tobin, Avnit Maharaj

With the dominant form of North Shore hogging the limelight, Forrest Hill have flown under the radar somewhat but it now seems they are every bit as ready as their local rivals to claim the title. The closest challenges are six points back so it seems as if the leading pair will be locked in a exciting two-way battle for glory over the coming weeks. With North Shore not in action this round, the short trip to Takapuna is a great chance for Forrest Hill to make the top of the table theirs for the time being.

Ellerslie vs Manurewa Michaels Avenue | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 3pm | Referee: Chris Wolken Assistant Referees: Tom Woo, Andrew Mitchell

The Manurewa players will have had an extra spring in their step at training this week after earning a vital victory over fellow strugglers Waiuku and their prospects now appear much brighter. But it will count for little if it was just a one-off so another pleasing performance is necessary here. New signing James Lowy made an impact on debut against Waiuku while Mulowa Sikongo and Gurjeet Singh continue to be the goal threats.

    Papatoetoe vs North Force

Murdoch Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Hayden Tutbury Assistant Referees: Peter Caffell, John Bennett

Judging by the league table, there would appear to be only one likely winner here as North Force are in the throes of a title bid while Papatoetoe are trying to stave off relegation. But North Force do not travel particularly well the 5-0 win at Claudelands in mid-June was their first away victory since the opening day so Papatoetoe will take heart from that.

Oratia United vs Te Atatu Parrs Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Vaughan Couillault Assistant Referees: Ravi Prasad, John Schipper

These sides posted identical wins last weekend, Oratia defeating Lynn-Avon 3-1 as Te Atatu swept aside Fury by the same scoreline. The outcome here is likely to be decided by whoever wins the battle between two of the divisions leading marksmen, Mark Withers and Lome Funafuti. Withers has 14 goals for Oratia while Funafuti has blasted 11 for Te Atatu.

    Fencibles United vs Onehunga-Mangere United

Riverhills Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Dimitry Sabitov Assistant Referees: Johanna OConnor, Nick Kang

The Onehunga-Mangere players will be out to restore the teams reputation after being humbled 8-1 by title favourites Papakura last weekend. The Mountain Men will have been disappointed to have undone much of their good work from the preceding round, which resulted in a vital 2-1 victory over Papatoetoe. Fencibles are beginning to fall off the promotion pace so need three points to stay in touch with second-placed North Force.

    Albany United vs Lynn-Avon United

Rosedale Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: James Ashford Assistant Referees: Chris Casey, Faiyaz Ali

Lovers of attacking football will not be flocking to this one as these sides have the worst offensive records in the league, both scoring at under a goal a game. With so little to offer going forward, its no wonder they find themselves at the wrong end of the table and the struggles to score must be particularly frustrating for Albany as their defensive record compares favourably to sides in the upper half.

    AFC Fury vs Manukau City

Maramatanga Park | Saturday 11 July | Kick-off: 2.45pm | Referee: Tony Wall Assistant Referees: Paul Shakes, Peter Farrell

Fury will come up against a fellow promoted side for the second time in quick succession here and will hope they fare better than in last weeks defeat to Te Atatu. With Manukau having lost just twice that does not seem likely though, especially as the visitors had the wood on Fury in the pairs previous meeting. Manukau triumphed 2-1 on that occasion and need more of the same to keep the pressure on the top two.
