Louis & ronans A2 media coursework

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? The song that we used for our media coursework, was One more time by Daft Punk which is in the dance genre. In our research and planning we discovered most dance music videos have no narrative, unlike our music video which has a narrative, therefore this challenges conventions of existing media products. An example of this would be, we used a range of point of view shots to give the feeling like the viewer was the person in the music video.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Secondly, another way we challenge media conventions was by using bright colours and vibrant settings, such as the beach and skiing resorts. This goes against the stereotypical dance music videos where the setting are normally in night clubs and other parties, for example, in Route 94 My Love.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Finally most music videos have a plot where a man chases a girl and in the end gets the what he wants, we have challenged this convention because our plot is about a geeky student being bullied who has enough and decides to go home to bed and has a dream of a life that is much better than his.

How effective is your main product and ancillary texts? Our main product and ancillary texts worked together effectively because we appealed to the target audience which was the younger generation, from about 16 21, firstly by involving school life the target market that we aimed for would have been either still in some form of education or just come out of education.

How effective is your main product and ancillary texts?Secondly bullying may have been relatable to our target audience, people will have at some time of their life been involved in bullying which creates a realistic feel to the video, therefore people with be able to relate to our music video. The way that we displayed bullying in our video gives off the impression that bullying is wrong, which it is. We used mise-en-scene to make the bully noticeable, he looked dark, angry and dominating, we used different camera angles to make the bully obvious.

How effective is your main product and ancillary texts?Another way in which our main product was effective was from the use of extreme sports. One example of this would be when, one of the actors is skiing over the jump. We used a low angle shot so that to jump looks dangerous, this makes it seem as if it more appealing compared to bullying scene which we have purposely made it look wrong. We tired by using point of view to make the audience feel as if they were the ones doing the skiing tricks. We have also used lighting and camera shots to enforce that bullying is bad. One example would be when we used a pan to show that everyone is getting along and the lighting is a lot brighter and more positive, compared to the bullying scene at the start of the video.

What have you learned from your audience feedback? Firstly, what we have learned from our audience feedback is that, our target market that we had decided to aim for at the start was a good choice, but also people outside our target market age range also really enjoyed the production. We thought to get audience feedback we decided to use the media platform that is Twitter, so we put up the link and asked mine and Ronans followers to reply and give us feed back these are the replies that we got back.

What have you learned from your audience feedback? Also we had both asked people that we know like, friends and family to watch the production and every single one of them really enjoyed what we had created and were extremely impressed, from asking family member which range from the age from 11 to 53 showed us that our target market was correct but also incorrect, what I mean by this is that when we showed it to the 16 to 21 year old, our original target market, they really liked it, but when we showed it to people that were way out of target market, they also said it was extremely good so I think that we could afford to change our target market.

How did we use media technologies in the construction and research, planning, evaluation? In our research and planning we used YouTube to look at existing music videos. This helped us to come up with the idea of using a go pro camera to record large amounts of the video. We look at Duke Dumont I got you on YouTube and saw similar camera shots like point of view shots. We had the equipment the be able to put the camera on the actors heads. A normal Sony camera cannot do this. With shots where there needs to be wide angle shots like the skiing shots, go pro helps us to make the shot a better quality because a gro pro has a fish eye lens. The way we uploaded our whole coursework was on blogger. We had some difficulty using blogger because our blogger didnt allow us to few our work. The way we downloaded our song was on YouTube converter. This was easy way to download the song without loosing any quality
