• The Airport was originally named Moisant Field and later Moisant International Airport in honor of John B. Moisant. He was the first pilot to fly over the English Channel with a passenger and an animal, his cat - Mademoiselle Fifi.
• Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport began commercial air service in 1946. At that time it was the largest commercial airport in the United States, twice the size of La Guardia, NY or the Chicago airports.
• The airport ID code for the New Orleans Airport is MSY. It is on the tag the airline ticket agent puts on your luggage. Can you find MSY on your luggage tag? It stands for Moisant Stock Yards.
• Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is located about 11 miles from New Orleans’ French Quarter.
• The Airport has two runways. The longest is the east/west runway that is over 10,000 feet long.
• Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is the largest Airport in the state of Louisiana.
• The airport invests millions of dollars in building projects that provide thousands of jobs.
• On November 6, 2019 the Airport opened a new terminal located on the North side of the airfield.
