What is Tolerance?

• Tolerance is when we can put up with people who don’t have the same opinions with us, or who do not look like us or who not live like us. It makes us see the other side of things.

What is Love?

• Love is a feeling of affection we have for someone. When we love someone we don’t criticize them and we don’t make fun of them.

Love and Tolerance in Cyprus• Our society needs to take a united stand to raise

awareness about Love and Tolerance • Because of the economic crisis people have realized

that solidarity and cooperation are vital to overcome the difficulties the crisis has caused.

• Cyprus Aid - Joining Voices Solidarity Concert: From 4 pm until midnight on 1 April, about 50 artists from different musical backgrounds, from Cyprus and Greece, united their voices to express their practical support to the people of our country.

• A massive crowd of 20,000 people turned up with an overwhelming amount of food

• People from all over the island began gathering at 4pm at Constanza moat in Nicosia.

• Volunteers members of the Cyprus Scouts Association and other organisations created a human chain as they received bags of food, packed them in boxes and loaded them onto trucks. The goods gathered were sorted out and distributed to people who needed them

• Different communities

The students of our school come from nine different communities and each community has its own stereotypes and mentality. However, they have managed to coexist and cooperate at school.

• Different football teams

Each community has its own football team and even though sometimes they are overexcited about them and they start arguing, it does not affect their interpersonal relations.

• Different political views

Even though our students have different political views they don’t fight about it and they try to respect each other’s point of view.

• Bullying (a form of violence)

Bullying is a very serious matter in schools in Cyprus and unfortunately our school is not the exception to the rule. There are bullies in our school who adopt aggressive strategies in negotiating their interpersonal conflicts. The forms of bullying we mainly have in our school are verbal and physical.

Conclusions

• The person who learns to be open to differences will have more opportunities in education, business, and many other aspects of life.

• Success in today's world — and tomorrow's — depends on being able to understand, appreciate, and work with others.
