you feel right at home too.

We’re reaching out to homeless families with our
participation in the Family Promise of the South

We have been bringing sacraments and
encouragement to those in prison, homebound
or in hospitals.
Our expanding youth ministry is changing the
lives of young people as they grow in fellowship
with each other and develop a deepening faith.
Spend a few moments talking to members of our
parish family, browse through our every
expanding list of ministries,
and consider volunteering for where
God is leading you.
Your life will be forever changed as we grow
together on the path to spiritual maturity,
becoming the holy, healthy, vibrant person the
God has created you to be.
33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time. November 13, 2016
WELCOME!
Thank you for worshipping with us!
We are not complete without you!
Who may go up the mountain of the LORD?
Who can stand in his holy place?
“The clean of hand and pure of heart,
who has not given his soul to useless things,
what is vain.
He will receive blessings from the LORD,
and justice from his saving God.
Such is the generation that seeks him,
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.”
Ps23:3-6
Maybe you grew up Catholic.
Maybe you think of yourself as Catholic.
Maybe you haven’t been to church in a while.
Or, you are worried that you won’t be welcomed here.
And maybe it feels awkward
and scary to take that first step.
Question. Doubts. Yearning, but not sure for what.
We get it. We’ve been there. Now we are here.
Maybe God is calling you, too. Just as you are.
Welcome home.

Msgr. Mike
New Team Member
Please welcome Maxim Ofina to our Pastoral Team.
Maxim has just begun her ministry in the parish as our
Office Coordinator,
replacing Robin
Crocker. Maxim brings
with her a wealth of
experience in the
business world and a
tremendous love for
Christ and the
Church which is
expressed by the many
ministries which she
has been involved in
over the years.
Thank you to the
many parishioners and
others who applied for the position and who brought with
them so many gifts and talents which made the
discernment of the search committee that much
more difficult, but uplifted by their skills and generosity.
We are very grateful to Robin Crocker for the 12+ years
that she has devoted herself to St. James and the many
ways that she has helped us to develop and maintain so
many of our ministries and activities. Our prayers are
with her as she begins her new ministry at Little
Company of Mary Hospital.
Thank You, Shining Stars & Committee
The Shining Stars Gala was a great success.
Under the direction of (l to r Robin Crocker, Joanne
Modic, and Ely Ronkowski), the O’Gorman Center
was breathtakingly transformed into an elegant
ballroom. The seven men honored for their service to
the parish truly are Shining Stars for our community and
we thank them for all they have done to help build
up St. James into the wonderful family that we are.
Looking around the parish though, we realize that these
men do not stand alone and that we are blessed by so
many great men who give of their time, their talent,
their treasure and their love for the Lord by living and
witnessing their faith every day in all they do.
Everyday Discipleship
“How does Jesus Christ call us in the everyday
circumstances of our life? If we are people
outwardly active in our faith, we can see God working in
our lives at monumental moments: the birth of a child,
the death of a loved one, or the offer of a new job.
Because we at least attend Mass most Sundays and
pray before meals and bedtime, we have alerted our
senses enough to see God as present in major life
moments. What about hearing the voice of God in
ordinary, mundane and even boring moments of our
lives? That can be a different story. However, finding
God there is at the core of real transformation as a faith-
ful disciple.
If we believe that all comes from God as a gift, and we
are to cultivate it and return it with increase to God, then
we mean All. When we talk about gifts of time, talent,
and treasure, we often focus too heavily on that which
we offer to our parish community or our favorite
charities. But ALL means ALL. The time I spend at the
parish working with ministries is important, but so is the
time I spend at home alone in the quiet. Giving my talent
by singing in the church choir is definitely good steward-
ship, but so is making a sandwich for a child’s lunch.
The money I take out of my wallet and place in the
collection basket belongs to God, but so dose the money
that goes back in my pocket. When we begin to
understand that my life is permeated with all the gifts
God has given me, them we can begin to be mindful of
God in all our circumstances. Suddenly, God is with me
at every turn and I have the opportunity to be a good
steward throughout the entire day.
Can you see how this understanding can transform
a person? As my own understanding of steward-
ship developed, I began seeing my children differently.
Before, they were my kids. It was my job to be the best
parent I could be. They were gifts from God, but they
were mine. Then I began to see them not as mine, but
God’s. They were given to me, but not forever, so they
were not in the same sense mine. They belonged to
God. It was no longer my job to be a good parent., it was
my calling to help them become the best people
possible and impart to them a love for Jesus, be-
cause I was going to give them back someday.
Furthermore, parenting became less about the big stuff
and more about the everyday encounters.

Reflection
Welcome Parents of Young Children!
Relax! God loves the wiggly little saints and we do too!
We understand how difficult it is to attend Mass with all the
supplies a family with young children needs.
We want you and your children to feel welcomed here.
We encourage you to sit
near the front so they can
see what is going on.
Please support these
families with encourage-
ment
and smiles.
Look for these books in the
back of the church for use
during Mass. Please return
to the basket when done for
others to use.
They are available in the
Gift Shop if you’d like to
take them home with you.
How we can make attending Mass easier for you?
I realized that God was there with us not only for the
triumphs and disappointments of childhood, but also
when the request came to
shoot some hoops in the
driveway. I always saw
the importance of
being a disciple of Jesus
Christ in my life on a daily
basis, but now I saw the
importance of being a
disciple in everyday life.
Discipleship is not just
about living a way of life
everyday, it is about a normal everyday life!
(Everyday Stewardship by Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS pg.-17-18)
Msgr. Mike
"You will even be handed over by parents, brothers,
relatives, and friends, and they will put some of you to
death. You will be hated by all because of my name."
This is not a pleasant prophecy. On the contrary,
Jesus' somber words may strike us with a bit of fear and
make us wonder if we will ever actually face such a
tragic scenario.
We are fortunate to live in a country where religious
freedom is tolerated, and of course we hope that
this continues to be the case. But the sad fact is that
right now, there are Christians in other parts of the world
who are living out the reality of these prophetic words.
For these men, women, and children of faith, the name
of Jesus truly is a cause of persecution and
martyrdom.
Let us imagine for a moment that the tables were turned.
Suppose we were the ones suffering from the
violent advances of anti-Christian forces. Suppose we
were the ones losing our homes, fleeing for our lives,
tending to our wounded loved ones, or worse. Where
would we look for help? To other Christians, most likely,
to those who would sympathize with our commitments
but who still had the resources to assist us.
We ARE those other Christians. We are the ones
who share a common faith with these suffering brothers
and sisters on the other side of the globe. We are
the ones with the resources to help them, even if it is
just in a small way. Our prayers for their protection and
peace cannot be underestimated, but neither can we
dismiss the significance of contributing in any way
possible to those organizations that are working on
the front lines to assist the suffering Church throughout
the world.
May we all do what we can to bring relief to those who
need it most.
“Most holy and
immaculate Virgin,
Mother of Jesus and
our loving Mother,
being his Mother, you
shared in his
universal kingship.
The prophets and
angels proclaimed
him King of peace. With loving fervor in our hearts
we salute and honor you as Queen of peace.
We pray that your intercession may protect us and all
people from hated and discord, and direct our hearts
into the ways of peace and justice which your Son taught
and exemplified. We ask your maternal care for our Holy
Father who works to reconcile the nations in peace.
We seek your guidance for our President and other
leaders as they strive for world peace.
Glorious Queen of peace, grant us peace in our hearts,
harmony in our families and concord throughout the
world. Immaculate Mother, as patroness of our beloved
country, watch over us and protect us with your
motherly love. Amen. “

LIVE THE LITURGY - INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK
Jesus often preached that his kingdom is not of this world.
He also instructed the disciples that the end of the world as
we know it would eventually come but provided no details
about the time. For those who are called to live by faith it is
not important to know. Cultivating an attitude of trust that
God will take care of all things in God's time is the goal of
every believer.

Consider Spiritual Adoption
This is done by praying that the one particular but
unknown child’s life be spared abortion and be allowed
to continue to live.
“Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I love you very much. I beg
you to spare the life of the unborn baby that I have
spiritually adopted who is in danger of abortion.”

To help accomplish this, it was recommended an
individual say a daily prayer for a period of nine months.

EDGE Night # Friday November 18
"Count Your Blessings"
6:30#8:00pm at Kavanagh Hall
Meet Core Team Member:
Patty Heckman
My favorite Bible Verse is
John 3:16 "God so loved
the world that he gave his
only Son, that everyone
who as faith in him may not
perish, but have eternal
life."
I joined the Core Team to
inspire the Faith that God
gave his only Son to us and we will have eternal life with
Him. We used to say “Keep the Faith”. It meant, don't quit
God gave us each other and His Son showed us how to
live, love and honor each other.
Prayer: O Jesus, I will put no obstacles to your purifying
action.
Imagination: (Picture Jesus with his whip confronting the temple
leaders.
Context:
All four gospels speak of this cleansing (therefore, it is an
important event). John places it at the very beginning of Jesus’
public ministry and adds the important teaching that Jesus’ body is
a temple which will be destroyed and rebuilt in three days.
Gospel text: (Read slowly, possibly aloud).
Since the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to
Jerusalem. In the temple, he found those who sold oxen and
sheep and doves, together with the money-changers. He made a
whip and drove out the sheep and the oxen. He overturned the
tables of the money-changers.
He told those selling doves, “Take these away and do not make
my Father’s house into a marketplace.” His disciples
remembered that it was written,
“Zeal for your house consumes me.”
The Jews asked him, “What sign can you show us that authorizes
you to do these things? Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple and
in three days, I will raise it up”. The Jews said, “This temple
took forty years to build, and you will raise it up in three days. “
Actually, he was talking about his body. When he was risen from
the dead, his disciples remembered his words. They came to
believe the scripture and the word that he spoke.
Thoughts: (Read all. Ponder those that attract you.)
Jesus’ heart is sensitive to evil.
Seeing the buying and selling fills him with anger.
Because of these deep feelings, he takes immediate action.
He thinks only of his heavenly Father,
giving no notice to how others might feel.
Overturning the tables and scattering the money
symbolizes God destroying evildoers.
When Jesus is challenged, he prophecies his own
resurrection. This supplies all the authority he needs.
These words mean so much to the disciples. By the Resurrection,
they believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
Affections: (When one touches your heart, use your own
words.)
O Jesus, give me a sensitive heart.
Heavenly Father, awaken me to your desires.
Jesus, destroy all evil in the temple of my heart.
Make me a holy, purified temple.
Jesus, your rising from the dead gives you all authority.
You are Lord. You are Saviour.
You are the only-begotten Son of God.
Resolution: (Possibly you might want to make your own.)
I will allow Jesus to cast out all evil – in my thoughts, words and
deeds.
I will proclaim the risen Jesus as Lord of my life.
Thought for the day: (To recall your meditation)
Destroy this temple and in three days, I will raise it up.
