Love Morristown? Let Us
Tell Your Story!
Under Chairman Chris Horn, the Chamber is making
attracting and retaining new residents to Morristown a top
priority. To help spread the word that Morristown is a great
place to live, work, and play, the Chamber has created a Fa-
cebook page, Make Morristown Home, to share information
about the job market and the quality of life we enjoy here. If you’re on Facebook, please like the
page, share the page, and invite friends to like it. We’d also like to share testimonials from recent
transplants about what drove their decision to move to Morristown and what they enjoy about the
city. If you, your friends or co-workers are or know any new residents who would be willing to share
their story, please contact either Jodi Barnard ([email protected]) or Anne Ross

Schools Back in Session! Drive Safely & Support a Teacher!
A s the school year begins, we will see the traffic in our community increase greatly during those early morning and early evening hours. I am like everyone else and expect to get to my destina-
tion without the bother of other vehicles or red lights to stop me, but I ask that we all be aware and safe during these times. These children are our future leaders and future workforce in our communi-ty. If you are an HR manager today, you know how much one individual means to your company, so let’s try to keep them all safe. While shopping locally for my wife’s school supplies, a lady stopped my buggy and asked how many kids I had going to school; my reply was pretty simple….as many as her classroom holds this year. Our situation isn’t unique as teachers are tasked with buying more and more basic supplies every year such as copy paper, printer cartridges and student supplies. As a business leader in the community who expects a trained and educated work force, find a school or a teacher in need and support their cause. It may only be a few of your left over office sup-plies, but It means a lot to a teacher who may have a class with over 40 kids in a session. This little bit of help will be remembered by these students, and I can tell you that many companies participat-ing in our elementary and middle schools today have realized this. We have companies providing products used in their manufacturing process to schools to be used in art projects which are then dis-played in the companies. What better way to gain community awareness of what your company does or make!

Workforce Development Efforts Continue as TCAT Staff
Visits Van Hool Headquarters in Belgium
As Chamber members remember, on April 12, Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam along with TN Depart-
ment of Economic & Community Development Commissioner Bob Rolfe, Morristown City, Hamblen
County and Chamber leaders, along with Van Hool NV officials announced that the Belgian company
will establish its first U.S. manufacturing
operation in Morristown and create 650
jobs over the next five years.
As part of the site selection pro-
cess, representatives from Van Hool visit-
ed the TCAT Morristown campus on three
separate occasions in the months leading
up to the announcement. The quality of
instruction in welding, painting and body,
electricity and machining programs offered
at the college weighed heavily in their de-
cision to locate in Morristown.
Between May 27 and June 3, Chris
Edmonds, Business & Industry Coordina-
tor at TCAT Morristown traveled to Skopje,
Macedonia and Brussels, Belgium as a part
of the Tennessee Department of Economic
& Community Development’s Workforce De-
velopment Team. These visits were coordi-
nated to help prepare Van Hool with training assessments and curriculum development for the facility
that will be located in Morristown.
The Chamber appreciates our local TCAT and Chris as they partner with us in our continuing
industrial development and workforce development efforts.
