Love Your LeftoversBy Alex Aguirre and Rogelio Garcia
What is Composting?
• Composting is like recycling organic matter• The compost is sent to an off site facility where it is allowed to decompose into
fertilizer
• It will help bring UT closer to its Zero Waste goal
• Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills
Who We Are
• Collaboration between the University Leadership Network, University Unions and Office of Sustainability
• In order to create a more green campus
• The Union has been composting for over a semester however they want our assistance in outreach education

Your Job
• Two shifts each day
• 12:00 to 1:00 and 1:00 to 2:00
• Instruct people on how to compost properly
• Cheatsheets
• For you to use and to hand out to others
Your Job cont.
• Meet with other volunteers five minutes before your shift begins

More materials
Compost
• Food Leftovers
• Paper Bags
• Notebook Paper
• Mixed paper materials are not compostable
Recycle
• Plastic
• Aluminum
• Glass
Landfill
• ALL Cups
• Condiment packages
• Mixed material packaging (i.e. potato chip bags)
• Remember, if you don’t know where something goes, throw it away
What you shouldn’t do
• Force people to compost or confuse them as to what can be composted
• We are currently working to pressure vendors to use more compostable and recyclable materials
• Currently not all types of materials are compostable
• i.e. Everything at Wendy’s can be composted, but Starbucks, as well as most other stores, cups can’t. All cups are trashed
Post volunteering survey
• Fill one out at the end of each week you volunteer
• How attendance will be kept
• Hours are approved at the end of each week with a submitted survey
