“There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

Nelson Mandela

Hello and welcome to Lamego, or should we say LoveMe-Go(!) , our charming little host city. You arrived here a day after the birthday of Portugal’s revolution, and we hope that this journey you’re embarking on will stay forever in your hearts as a revolution too. To make sure you’ll have a memorable time, adopt our session’s motto: Live with Passion. It wouldn’t make sense not to be passionate during your stay at LoveMeGo. Well, we guess the weather could be better but besides that what’s not to love? Friendly delegates from around the country, a motivated officials’ team and great venues are what you can certainly expect here. You may not know many officials here yet, but I guarantee you that it is passion that brought all of us here. It’s by giving everything into this project and working our behinds since we were delegates such as you that we have learned so much, while really having the times of our lives. T.S. Eliot once said “It is obvious that we can no more explain a passion to a person who has never experienced it than we can explain light to the blind”. With this in mind, we hope these days are enlightening and that you’ll leave with a warm heart and a lot to explain.

FROM JOURNOS, WITH LOVERicky Romeo and Anna Juliet are the best Love Journos in the world. They met each other in the romantic city of Venice while they were investigating another mysterious case of Giacomo Casa-nova. Their directors wanted both to be the first to discover what really happened in that convent and didn’t want to wait for the po-lice’s investigations. So, they asked their best journalists to get that information first. However, they arrived simultaneously to the crime scene and instantly fell in love with each other. So, they decided to create their own newspaper, LOVEmeGO, which was a huge success as being the first to publish the article related to that love crime. One year later, Aladinão and Joanas-mine joined the team. He wanted to settle down,

sick of just travelling around in his carpet. She wanted a more galvanising life, a even more exciting routine that would allow her to reach maximum levels of adrenaline. These four invited their mutual friends BarBonnie and FranClyde to join them in this lovely newspaper. At first, they were a bit reluctant. They were used to having a much bigger salary and belonging to society’s me-dium class seemed odd to them. But, they were no longer young, they knew that you can’t escape from the police an entire life. So, after a plastic surgery, they started to work as good and honest citizens.

After getting married, SilBeast and BranBeauty felt that they needed a job. Liv-ing in a palace and dancing all day wasn’t exhilarating enough for them. Then, they formed a successful audiovisual team which was immediately recruted by LOVEmeGO. Nowadays, these eight romantics spread their love all together through this newspaper. Get reached!

First day of the session. The delegates finally arrived to Lamego and were enthusi-astically greeted by the officials in the sport’s complex where they were first introduced to teambuilding. To some of us, officials mostly, team-building is a common concept but not to these EYP newbies. It is already traditional to pre-sent it to delegates specially because the com-mittees tend to have initially hidden problems, such as trust issues. Dealing with it from the beginning brings the delegates closer and ac-tually creates a team.Valeria, the lovely president of our session, welcomed everyone to Lamego and invited us to have lots of fun during these next three days. Further on, tensions were broken right after the first game, “Rock Paper Scissors”. Af-ter a little while everyone was already laughing and cheering and loudness was filling the air. In the beginning of the second game, Funky Chicken, the embarrassment came back, but only for a while. The delegates were surprised at first but obviously they got into the spirit just as fast as What?

Nearly 40% of men do not feel confident meeting a woman for the first time. 3

Run Delegate, Run*

From the door, there were curious school students looking at us. No, darlings, we are not mentally ill, why would you even think that? During the committee teambuilding we realized how much the delegates enjoyed the strange games they were playing and we could see evidences of the bright yet shy flame of passion for EYP starting to burn deep down their hearts and souls. Yeah, I’m just kidding yet you have to admit that somehow you were touched by how special we seem to be…Teambuilding is the first step towards a good team work. And as the good players you were during the process I believe that it will come down to an incredible and useful debate in the General Assembly. So keep up the good work. We are now cheering for you!

Falling in love with Lamego First of all, welcome! Lamego has been expectantly waiting for you to finally ar-rive. And so have we the journalists’ team of the 26th National Selection Conference. Lamego is a very ancient town with about 10000 inhabitants. The small vil-lages in the surroundings have a population of 200 to 300 people each. So, as you can conclude, this is a very small environment, perfect for a love story some might say… As we are located in the Douro region (translated, it’s the Golden re-gion, so it must mean something good but, you know, that is just my opinion..), the main occupation of its population is related to wine or smokehouse’s businesses. Yes, it’s a very small town, but don’t be persuaded just now. Lamego and its people can surprise you. Did you know for instance that this place is where the very first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques, was acclaimed as such? Interesting right? In fact they were so nice to host us that we believe we should give something back. We decided therefore that for the next three days, Lame-go will be the ultimate town of love and passion. And we are certain-ly hoping that you will fall for Lamego just as much as we already have. The really important thing for us is that you have as much fun as you possibly can. So please (I was nice, I said please!) enjoy it to in-finity and beyond and we promise you that you won’t regret a second of it.

People are twice as likely to find a date through friends and family than through the bar scene.4

P.S. I Challenge You*

*

This article is for those of you who are wondering who would ever come up with such a great idea as the challenges or to those who simply didn’t get the concept. The challenges are a side competition that is being organized by the press team. Yes, exactly those incredibly awesome, beautiful and humble people you met just yesterday! The main goal of this project is to make you have lots of fun while meeting every-one in the session. Isn’t that such an awesome idea? (Again, of course it is!) Obviously it isn’t just by coincidence that we are the journos of this session. Or maybe it is... Well, it doesn’t matter! ‘Cause either way you’ll never find out...Muahaahaahaahhaaaa!! So this is how it works: Every committee is given the same tasks that must be performed the best way possible. In the end of the session, the committee with the most points will be crowned as “The Ultimate EYP’s Task Killer” and wins the most amaz-ing, outstanding, mind blowing prizes that will be announced later on, so stay tuned! We are counting on you to overcome our expectations when it comes to crea-tivity, passion and dedication, so that YOU can provide some great moments to the session, as well as having a blast while doing it. Keep it in mind that this is YOUR session, and your time to change the world, even if it takes a challenge at a time. We won’t take more of your time (at least until the next article), so you will see yesterday’s results and today’s new challenges. Enjoy them. Good Luck and Have Fun!

LOVING EUROPE Love is an international language but, as everyone, it has a big variety of accents. This is a scientific view on how people from different countries face, feel and express their love. It may be useful during this session, so keep these tips in mind.

RUSSIARussian people think that they are the wonders of the world when it comes to the art of kissingChallenge: prove it

SPAINThe majority of Spanish men do not meet the stereotype of the latin lov-er. However the latin lover is alive and well in Spain. Their victims are young beautiful women, many who have money. So these men are like bees, pollinating as many flowers as possible.

Dating specialists suggest that if a woman doesn’t return a call after two mes-sages, she is not interested (did we really need an expert to tell us that?).

This might have been the most passionate Eurovillage ever. Last night, the hearts of all the delegates, officials and professors beated so strongly that for mo-ments, I thaught that some Cupido’s angels were out there shooting everybody. I was wrong, These fluffy angels had nothing to do with it. We all know they just eat Olim-po food. If only they knew how divine was that food... Oh my Zeus. It seems that throughout the times, love has inspired knights to fight for it, writers to express it in words and sweet-makers to create extraordinary new flavours of tasting it. Moimenta da Beira brought us their amazing Cavacas, used to be made by wives specifically to their husbands as a signal of love and devotion. These ways of express love were described in the books of the famous novelist Aquilino Ribei-ro, born in this town. Braga also exhibit some charismatic old declarations of love in beautiful napkins with messages of passion. This romantism is also shown in the way Pão-de-Ló and Sonhos are cooked by people from São João da Madeira, with sugar having a tasty relationship with eggs, as well as the famous Profiteroles of Love which are guaranteed to be made with care in Águas Santas. Some dramatic love stories were also told between delegates whom admit to enjoy this mysterious issue. A delegate from Matosinhos whispered a very tragic story. It seems that in the 40’s, lots of women lost their husbands who were fish-ing and died drowned, yelling their wives’ names. These unfortunate women were so sad that they went to the beach and cried for days. However, noone had ever cried as much as the female shepard of Santo Tirso. This poor young woman, after the bad new that her rich boyfriend was going to leave the town, cried so much that her tears formed an entire river. Water and love have been having some troubles. In Rio Tinto, there’s a legend which says that an optical illusion may be sufficient to destroy an happy case of love. In the precise moment when a beautiful lady was hugging her brother in the farewell of his visit, her husband arrived home and thought she was betraying him. He killed the man with a saber by mistake. But the most famous love stories include a princess, and the delegates from Viana do Castelo told a very elucidative one. There was a princess named Ana that fell in love with a poor guy and so, the king decided to punish her by locking her in the top of a mountain, in the dark dungeons. Every single day, her beloved tries to save her. In one morning, he saw her in the balcony and he ran through all the streets shouting “Vi Ana do Castelo/I saw Ana of the castle”. The past love stories confirm the idea that it was pretty hard to love in those times, but now, we can see love in every corner, at every second. It’s easy to love, just ask the committees whom sang songs to Valeria and Kristen. It has been proved that love can be a moun-tain of happinness or a tsunami of sadness. Keep you feet dry.

TASTE OF LOVE

Page 13: Lovemego #1

Sitting in the warm Chair’s room (the only warm room around!), Valeria talked a little about herself, giving her perspective over this session but also about love and passion.

Since when EYP become a passion?EYP became a passion since the very first day, at the Na-tional Selection Conference in 2008 in Kiev. It happened by impulse, as I applied minutes before the deadline. I was so fascinated by the bright people I met; however what made me falling in love for EYP was to see other people around me feeling the same passion!

If you had to rate your EYP attitude, from 0 being Miss Se-rious and 10 Miss Hilarious, how would you rate yourself?I would not call myself Miss Serious... A seven. I enjoy the process and the session as a whole.

What are your expectations for this session?Special session.... Definitely cosy! I want to feel that delegates in some weeks, months and even years feel that this session warms their heart!

What was your best EYP experience? As a delegate, the International Iberian Forum in 2009. As an official, the first time I was a chairperson, during the 69th International Session of Istanbul.

About love... Have you ever failed at being romantic?I did... Not many though (laugh)! Sometimes clumsiness can transform the romantic mood into a funny one.

Do you find Portuguese man very attractive?Yes... very much!! They are sophisticated!

What advises would you give to our young delegates?Carpem diem... It means cease the day. I want delegates to enjoy all the session, all the process, challenge themselves every single minute. To dream and passion... delegates should take this opportunity to find love!

LoveMeGo couldn’t finish this interview without asking about love life....I’m not in a relationship... But I do enjoy funny, smart and charismatic men!

Valeria’s story

“Borders? I have never seen one. But i don’t they ex-ist in the minds of some

people”

“Dare to be creative, dare to be crazy, dare to be every-thing you want to be! There is no chance to be!”
