The film ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ was made with a budget of just $140,000, but managed to earn a worldwide

gross figure of $26,572,439. made by Vortex cinemas, it was released in 1974. The company were so little known

that there is no evidence of a logo on the internet and the movie seems to have been their one ‘big hit’.

LOW BUDGET

The Disney film Tangled was made with a budget of $260,000,000 to cover the cost of animating it, and using

3d animation as opposed to traditional 2D animation that is commonly seen in older Disney films. The movie grossed

over $560,000,000 at the box office. With Disney being one of the best known film companies in the world and princess movies offering some of their biggest exports, the film was

eagerly awaited, a retelling of the story of Rapunzel something people were intrigued to see.

BIG BUDGET

While Disney has a younger target audience, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is aimed at older viewers, as it contains

gory scenes and things that would be unsuitable for children’s viewing.

Overall, Disney reaches a wider group of people as it appeals to families, whereas TCM only appeals to people

who enjoy the horror genre. Disney is more universal, and is therefore the more successful institution.
