Annual Reportpresented by:
Each day, our Chamber works hard to put the American dream within reach of hardworking Lubbock business owners. Our mis-sion, to strengthen, promote and serve the Lubbock business community serves as our goal to grow and guard the prosperity of all area businesses.
Chair Abel Castro led this year’s Board of Directors comprised of Lubbock’s most dynamic business leaders and together, they serve as the independent voice of the business community. They led Chamber programs that performed as a catalyst for business growth, helped convene other leaders and influencers, and served as a champion for a stronger Lubbock on behalf of our 1,700 members and the over 79,000 employees they represent.
We reinforced principles of free enterprise and encouraged pro-business policies at federal, state, and local levels such as supporting collaborative efforts to secure funding for the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine. Another legislative priority was education finance with HB 3 to help ensure that young children, as the future of Texas business, will have the best foundation possible. We also advocated for the extension of Interstate 27 and support-ed legislation for a Ports-to-Plains Corridor feasibility study.
We successfully conducted numerous community development programs such as Leadership Lubbock, our Diversity Summit, Young Entrepreneurs Academy, and the Young Professionals of Lubbock to help develop influential and collaborative advocates for Lubbock’s successful future and community growth.
One of our major accomplishments was our Five-Star Accredi-tation with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a prestigious honor that distinguishes high quality, expertise, and strong leadership and is the only program of its kind in the chamber industry. It defines excellence in planning and recognizes chambers for outstanding contributions toward positive change in their communities.
The Chamber’s strength lies within our membership and we use it to serve as a huge resource for our community. Our outstanding volunteer led activities center around relationship building oppor-tunities that engage business people with other business people as well as elected officials and community decision makers to make our hometown the best place to work, learn, live and raise our families.
