Timeline
• PPAE: June 2013 in Heidelberg
• Juli 2013 shipment
• Sep/Oct 2013 reintegration and lab-tests
• Nov 2013 – Jan 2014: seeing-limited com
• Mar 2014: Test-run Binocular observing cancelled
• Jun/Jul 2014: Upgrade LUCI2 for AO
• 2014B: LUCI2 AO-commissioning
• 2014B: LUCI2 seeing-limited potentially available for users
• 2015A: LUCI2 AO potentially available for users
Comparison LUCI1 vs. LUCI2
• Hardware practically identical
• Detector in LUCI2 H2RG, higher and homogenous QE
• New Software (new detector, binocular observing)
scripting via XML-files
• New Observer User Interface
• New RTD
• New (and much faster) LS/MOS-acq. tool
The highlight – luck with the weather • 3 Runs in 2013B: Nov 9-14, Dec 12-18, Jan 15-21
• 4.25/6, 5/7, 6.25/7 nights 15.5/20 nights!!!
(120/150 nights LUCI1-com dome closed)
• Almost no telescope downtime
• No power outages, no other catastrophies
basically done with the night-time com-activities!!!
Detector-characteristics
But: LUCI1/2 dichroic cuts off at 0.89/0.95µm
LUCI1 better for z-band, LUCI2 better for H-band and redder
New Software
Can be started from everywhere
Data go into server + can be downloaded from there
No direct access to the LUCI machine for user!

Some highlights
W3, K-band, 30min, 0.55“ FWHM
(prepared by D. Thompson)
Comet Lovejoy, K-band, 60sec
MOS-spectra of very faint z > 2 galaxies in MPE-fields
210K, 160min, all galaxies show Hα and [N II] 6583 Å
(prepared by J. Kurk)
Summary
• LUCI2 in seeing-limited mode basically ready
• Detector/readout SW stable
• Instrument SW stable
• MOS-acq. tool extremely fast (down to 12min) and reliable
• Data processing ongoing
• Some cosmetic instrument SW optimization ongoing
• Manuals pending
