    Irena and Tomasz want to share their vision about this unique instrument and convince the audience to perceive it as a standard classical instrument. They mainly perform with a technical proficiency and above all passion and excitement a repertoire with selections of own compositions and arrangements in a variety of musical styles.

    School of Music and Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo,

    Japan. The ensemble was also invited as a guest jury

    member at the Japan Percussion Association’s

    Competition 2019 in Saitama. The marimba duo was

    formed in 2011 by Irena and Tomasz in Belgium. After

    graduating Europe´s first Marimba Master Degree at the

    Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, the duo believes in

    bringing the instrument to a further development. Lucid

    Duo premieres many new works, written by Tomasz for

    marimba duo, marimba duo with electronics, or double

    marimba concertos with an orchestra/percussion

    ensemble. Irena and Tomasz won the Start-Stipendium in

    2016, awarded by the Federal Chancellery of Austria,

    given to outstanding artists, which led to completing

    their specialization with the Japanese legend Keiko Abe

    at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, Japan.

    Lucid Duo is Yamaha artist and an Innovative Percussion

    Endorser, currently collaborating with the Armstrong

    Music and Arts Agency in Beijing. Both members of the

    duo are based in Vienna, Austria.

    Lucid Duo’s performance is an introduction to the wide spectrum

    of marimba virtuosity. Irena Manolova and Tomasz Goliński are

    the first prize winning laureates of the Universal Marimba

    Competition 2011 in Belgium, praised for their amazing degree

    of sensitivity to sound.

    Their success allows them to perform regularly at international

    festivals and to hold masterclasses worldwide. The duo made an

    appearance on festivals in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Spain,

    Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Mexico,

    amongst which the Zivkovic's International Summer Academy in

    Vienna 2020; Festival Internacional de Marimbistas 2019 in

    Chiapas, Mexico; Midis-Minimes Festival 2018 in Brussels,

    Festival de Música Contemporánea de Tenerife 2017,

    performing at venues as the National Olympics Hall in Tokyo,

    Dolce Artists Salon in Osaka, Japan; Stadschouwburg Leuven,

    Belgium; Koszalin Philharmonic Hall, Poland; Auditorio de

    Tenerife, Spain; Austrian Cultural Forum in Berlin; Palais

    Rasumofsky in Vienna etc. In the recent years they gave lectures

    in renowned music universities such as the University of Sciences

    and Arts Chiapas, Mexico; Osaka College of Music, Toho Gakuen

    The Bulgarian-born Irena Manolova,

    internationally acclaimed marimba and

    percussion artist, started playing percussion

    at the age of six. In 2016 Irena got awarded

    the Start-Stipendium Scholarship by the

    Federal Chancellery of Austria for her project

    Popularization of Marimba, which allowed

    her to complete her studies with the Japanese

    composer and marimba soloist Keiko Abe at

    the Toho Gakuen School of Music, Tokyo.

    The marimbist is a winner of numerous solo

    and chamber music competitions, among

    which are: Laureate of Yordan Kamdzhalov’s

    Foundation in Sofia (2016); Fidelio Chamber

    Music Competition in Vienna, Austria

    (2014&2015); ARTos Soloist Music prize in

    Antwerp, Belgium (2013); Marimba Solo

    laureate of the International Marimba

    Competition in Fermo,Italy (2010) and of the

    International Competition Music and Earth in

    Sofia (2008); Award for artistic achievements

    by the Ministry of Culture in Bulgaria (2005);

    Grand Prix Prize at the Balkan Festival Art

    Amphora in Sofia (2004) etc.

    She performed in concert halls and venues

    including the Musikverein, Konzerthaus,

    Vienna State Opera, ORF Radiokulturhaus,

    Theater an der Wien, MuTh, Belvedere 21,

    Porgy and Bess in Vienna, Esterhazy Palace in

    Eisenstadt, Austria; Concertgebouw and

    Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ in Amsterdam,

    Philharmonie Haarlem in the Netherlands; BCV

    Concert Hall Lausanne in Switzerland; deSingel

    Antwerp, Stadsschouwburg Leuven,

    Muziekcentrum De Bijloke Gent in Belgium;

    Auditorio de Tenerife in Santa Cruz de Tenerife,

    Spain; National Olympics Memorial Hall in

    Tokyo, Dolce Artists Salonin Osaka, Japan;

    Koszalin Philharmonic Hall in Poland; Austrian

    Cultural Forum in Berlin, Germany.

    Irena participated in many festivals and events,

    such as the Wagner-Gala in Concertgebouw

    2011; Bitten-Happening 2012 and John Cage

    Celebration 2012 with the HERMESensemble

    in deSingel, Antwerp; Kiss of Fire with SPARK -

    die klassische Band 2014 in Amsterdam;

    Vienna International Saxfest 2014-2016;

    Nomus Festival 2015 in Serbia; Lange Nacht:

    Interpretation zeitgenössischer Musik 2016 at

    the Zurich University of the Arts ; SGEM

    Vienna – International Scientific Conference on

    Social Sciences and Arts 2016; Zurich

    International Saxfest 2017; Wien Modern 2019

    etc. As a pedagogue, Irena presented her

    marimba educational workshops and was

    working on her interdiscliplinary project Keep

    playing in 2014-2015 at the Amadeus

    International School of Vienna.

    After graduating the National Music School Lubomir Pipkov (2008) in Sofia, Bulgaria, Irena obtained with the greatest distinction her Bachelor Degree of Percussion (2011), Marimba Master Degree (2013) and Master of Percussion Degree (2014) at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp , Belgium, guided by her teachers Ludwig Albert, Lin Chin-Cheng and Nando Russo. As a continuation, Irena specialized with the composer and multi-percussion concert artist Nebojša Živkovic exclusively on his percussion and marimba works at the

    Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna in 2014, followed by performing together with him the Serbian Premiere of his Double Percussion Concerto Obsesiones during the Nomus Festival 2015 in Novi Sad.

    Irena gained her experience as an orchestral percussionist with Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, Netherlands Chamber Orchestra Amsterdam, Neue Oper Wien etc., led by conductors as Marc Albrecht, Edo de Waart, Philippe Herreweghe, Markus Lehtinen, Peter Keuschnig etc. Currently the percussionist is performing as a guest member of various orchestras, chamber and contemporary ensembles in Austria, premiering new contemporary works and having the chance to work with composers as Peter Eötvös, Richard Dünser, Julia Purgina etc.

  • Tomasz obtained with the greatest distinction his Master Degrees in Percussion, Marimba, Chamber Music and Postgraduate Marimba Solo in the class of Ludwig Albert at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, the Leuven College of Arts in Belgium and at the Music Academy in Gdansk. He graduated his Bachelor in Composition in the class of Luc van Hoove at the Leuven College of Arts, as well as a specialization of Electroacoustic Composition with Joris de Laet at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. In 2016 he completed his marimba specialization with the Japanese composer and marimba legend Keiko Abe at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo, Japan.

    The composer receives commissions from Austria, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, USA, Poland, Spain, and Denmark such as marimba solo/duo works with electronics, marimba and organ, marimba and violin, marimba and saxophone,marimba and flute,solo and duo percussion/marimba concertos with Philharmonic Orchestras etc. In 2016 Tomasz held his composition masterclass at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. His Marimba Quartet No.1 was commissioned and premiered by ensemble Schlagwerk Wien (led by the internationally renowned composer and multi-percussion soloist Nebojsa Zivkovic) at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.

    Tomasz Goliński is a Polish composer,

    marimbist and percussionist. He is one of the

    leading composers and performers of his

    generation on the international marimba and

    percussion scene.

    Some of his commissioned works include:

    Double Percussion Concerto No.1 premiered

    in 2015 by Tuopali Duo, the Orquesta

    Sinfónica de Tenerife and Maestro Eckart

    Preu (USA) during the International Festival

    de Música Contemporánea de Tenerife at

    the Auditorio de Tenerife in Spain; Double

    Marimba Concerto No.2 premiered in 2017

    by Lucid Duo, Koszalin Philharmonic and

    Maestro Simone Zuccatti in Koszalin,

    Poland; Marimba Concertino Luminosity

    premiered in 2018 by Mark Ford and Opole

    Philharmonic in Opole, Poland,

    commissioned by Mark Ford/University of

    North Texas; Italian Premiere of Luminosity

    Concertino performed in 2019 by Filippo

    Lattanzi, Orchestra della Fondazione

    Petruzzelli and Maestro Luigi Piovano in

    Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari; The Principal

    Delusion;Double Marimba Concerto for

    marimba orchestra premiered in 2019 by

    Lucid Duo, Phonix Marimba Orchestra and

    Shiniti Ueno in Tokyo, Japan and by Lucid

    Duo &Filarmonica de Marimbas de la

    UNICACH in Chiapas, Mexico 2019. Tomasz

    is a laureate of several marimba and

    composition international competitions

    including the First prize of the Universal

    Marimba Composition Competition in

    Belgium (2011&2012) with his marimba solo

    pieces Luminosity and

    Purity; Second prize at the 39th Percussive

    Arts Society Percussion Composition Contest

    in the USA with his marimba solo piece The

    Absurd World (2011); Second prize in the

    marimba solo category of the 8th Percussive

    Arts Society Italy International Percussion

    Competition in Fermo (2010) etc. For his

    artistic and academic achievements Tomasz

    received a scholarship from the Polish

    Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in

    2010 and in 2012 a scholarship from the

    Ministry of the Flemish Community in

    Brussels, Belgium. It is worth to mention that

    in 2011 Tomasz's first marimba solo piece

    Luminosity was used as a set-piece of the

    Universal Marimba Competition Belgium in

    2013. Since than Luminosity is becoming a

    standard piece in the marimba solo repertoire,

    being regularly performed in the USA, Asia,

    Europe, South America and Australia.

    His compositions Purity II and

    Luminosity have been published by the

    Danish publishing house Edition Svitzer and

    The Absurd World, by Keyboard Percussion

    Music in the USA.
