Computer literacy is a valuable asset in our challenging socio-economic environment and has potentials for personal, professional, career, economic and social development of each participant. Computer literacy is a source of major competitive advantage across all age groups, providing a significant edge to all in career and educational applications.
The unemployed and today's professionals should be aware of the growing trend where, today's employers measure an employee's value and potential contribution to an organization in terms of the employee's technological competency among other important considerations.
Our response to the evident gap in computer literacy among our unemployed graduates, administrative professionals, healthcare professionals, retirees and other groups is the launch of Lucinma Technology Institute with a mission to close The Computer Literacy Gap in Nigeria through advocacy and training. Practice/Portfolio Project & Community Service Commitment). The
goal of the portfolio project is to help educators apply the LUCOLITE
training to specific aspects of classroom course delivery and
classroom administration tasks to improve job performance and benchmark best practices in classroom and training management.
This is our signature program for high school graduates which we started in 2004, with a threefold goal: (1) equip the girls with valuable life skills, (2) provide entrepreneurship skills and (3)provide employment readiness/workplace skills to last them a life time. First we provide the girls with employment readiness skills through instruction in: computer literacy, leadership, business communication, grammar refresher, business math, customer service, marketing, sales, and public speaking. Next we integrate these skills into a vocational training/entrepreneurial dev. curriculum focused on mastery of different skills to prepare them for small business ownership opportunities. Third, we provide life skills training for these young women many of who, are typically ill-prepared for the challenges of marriage and motherhood. The program curriculum strongly reflects agreement with the philosophy/ popular saying, "...train a woman and you have educated a nation".
PROGRAM BENEFITS: The LUFISH program is designed to help the program graduates gain employability within the administration field by exposing participants to essential secretarial and administrative skills for today's dynamic administrative office professional. In addition every student is prepared for a dual pathway of either employment or entrepreneurship opportunities from a selection of in-demand vocational career areas of focus : catering/event management, graphic design, tailoring or beauty/cosmetology.
Lucinma Finishing School curriculum also exposes participants to the type of discipline required for individual excellence and success in pursuit of higher education and equips those who wish to return to school for undergraduate degrees with tools to achieve financial independence by providing services or working part time in their specialty skill area. This empowers interested LUFISH graduates to sponsor themselves through university.
The rigor and versatility of LUFISH programs provide a great foundation for career advancement into leadership positions. The participants leave confident in their ability to play management, leadership and administrative support roles for small and medium scale business employers as: secretaries, technology office administrators, graphic designers, database administrators, call center operators, cashiers, receptionists, client service/sales reps., or professional service roles as hairdressers, caterers, fashion designers, and event planners.
Most importantly, LUFISH participants acquire mandatory life skills (a panacea for survival in the real world) in the following areas : leadership & ethics, decision making, negotiation, conflict mgt., cooking and baking , home mgt, entertainment, budgeting, inter-personal communication, teamwork, time mgt., public speaking & presentation, event coordination, basic etiquette, religious and moral education, poise, and personal hygiene.
