In an effort to make sure parishioners who are ill are properly prayed for we would like
to keep our Sick List as up to date as possible. Please review the list, and if people need further prayers, a family member should call the Parish Center
before October 30th to request to keep their loved one’s name on the list for
November.
Names will remain for one full month but will be removed at the end of every month unless there is a request by the family to extend the prayers for the next month.
All Saints’ Day
All Saints’ Day, November 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation. Mass will be
celebrated at 10/31 (vigil) 5:30pm
11/1 9am, 12 noon and 7:30pm
Congratulations Matthew Cicero &
Ryan Shand!
You've worked hard to reach this big
achievement. Earning the rank of Eagle Scout takes courage, leadership, character,
hard work and kindness.

PB and J We will be meeting on TUESDAY nights at 7:00 to make room for the Alpha program that will be taking place in the cafeteria from September 16 through Thanksgiving. Everyone wanting to help make sandwiches should bring 1-2 loaves of bread. Other items that we need are smooth peanut butter, jelly or jam, plastic sandwich bags (fold overs preferred), dollar store table cloths, basic cleaning supplies, paper towels, hand soap and copy paper boxes. Blessing Bags: The Babylon Interfaith Homeless Initiative houses those in need from the first Wednesday in December till the last Wednesday in March. We have been asked to supply them with 700 (gallon size) ziplock bags with the following items: wash cloths, toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, shampoo, disposable razors, shave cream, deodorant. Optional items: conditioner, combs, chapstick and tissues. Since wash cloths are on the higher ends of some folks budgets, we will take gently used, clean towels that we can cut to wash cloth size. Store cards are also greatly appreciated for both P B and J or the Blessing Bags. We will be putting these bags together sometime in October, date to be announced. Many thanks for your ongoing generosity!
The Altar Flowers for this week have been donated by
Marjorie Cardinale in memory of
Fred G. Cardinale
The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet on Monday, October 28th at 7pm. We will
meet at the Parish Center. All are welcome, no experience necessary.
Set your clocks back 1 hour before you go to sleep on Saturday, November 2nd.

Prayer For Safety of Our Service
Men & Women Almighty and Eternal God, protect these men and women as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety to all who love them. May they ever praise you for your loving care.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. =====================================
A note about low gluten/gluten free hosts:
Hosts that are completely gluten-free are
invalid matter for the celebration of the Eucharist.
The hosts we use at Sacred Heart are not gluten
free. However, they are made of wheat starch
(wheat flour from which much of the gluten protein
has been removed) plus water. It’s gluten content is
<.001% or 10ppm.
The church considers “low-gluten” hosts to
have enough gluten to be “valid matter,” the F.D.A.
says the hosts are low enough in gluten to be
considered gluten-free. But, those with high
sensitivity should consult their doctors.
We are leasing part of our school to ACDS Day Hab. They are a life skills, work skills and social skills program for young adults with
disabilities.

ALL SAINTS’ DAY
First Reading Revelation 7:2-4,9-14 John describes his vision: those who have endured the trials worship the Lamb.
Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 24:1-2,3-4,5-6 Those who seek the face of the Lord shall be rewarded.
Second Reading 1 John 3:1-3 We are God's children now.
Gospel Reading Matthew 5:1-12 Jesus teaches what it means to be happy.
Background on the Gospel Reading
Every year the Church recalls the example, witness, and prayer of the holy women and men who have been identified by the Church as Saints. These saints are more than just role models; they are family members with whom we continue to share relation, in a
bond of prayer, called the Communion of Saints. Every year when we celebrate this day, the Gospel we proclaim recalls for us Jesus' teaching about happiness, the Beati-tudes. We quickly note in this reading that none of those Jesus names as “blessed” or “happy” are expected . . . the poor in spirit, the meek, the persecuted. Jesus' blueprint for happiness reflects little of what the world might call happiness.
What does Jesus mean when he uses the word “blessed?” This word is sometimes translated as “happy” or “fortunate” or “favored.” In other words, Jesus is saying that divine favor is upon those who are poor, who mourn, who are persecuted. This might have been welcome and surprising news to the crowds who heard Jesus that day.
The Beatitudes can be understood as a framework for Christian living. Because of this, it is natural that we proclaim this Gospel on the Feast of All Saints. Saints are people who lived the spirit of the Beatitudes as Jesus lived. On this day, we too are challenged to model our lives on the spirit and promises of the Beatitudes.
