A Journey Back in Time - FYP1

Visit the oldest Anglican Chuch on the island, drive by a

myriad of historical and famous sites including a basic school

for 3 - 6 year olds, then visit an 18th century estate home in the

hills overlooking the ocean. Learn about our history, plant a

tree then taste our famous Jamaican rum punch, jerk chicken

and fruits in season.

Step back in time to a bygone era of Jamaican history, set in the

hills overlooking the ocean. The Greenwood estate was

established by Sir Richard Barrett in the 1600s and was

prosperous over the centuries. The Greenwood Great House,

built in 1800, is a Jamaican Heritage Site and is filled with

authentic furniture, rare books and musical instruments,

heirlooms and historic memorabilia connecting the family‟s

strong ties to England. The family‟s most noteworthy member

was the world-famous Victorian poet Elizabeth Barrett

Browning, who penned the renowned “How do I love thee? Let

me count the ways.” It was Elizabeth‟s cousin who operated the

estate, and you‟ll hear stories about Elizabeth and the Barrett

family as you look through each room, marveling at the house‟s

rich history.

While at the estate, take part in planting a fruit tree to help

maintain Greenwood‟s forest. Plus indulge in a Jamaican snack

of mouthwatering jerk chicken, fresh fruits, lemonade and rum

punch. Your tour also includes a trip through historic Falmouth.

See structures built in the Jamaican Georgian architectural

style, such as the Falmouth Court House and St. Peter‟s

Anglican Church.

Highlights:

• Half-day trip in time: Explore an 18th-century estate, one of

the best preserved in the country; see Jamaican Georgian

architecture.

whose most famous member was Victorian poet Elizabeth

Barrett Browning.
