“In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month,
on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth, and the windows of the heavens were
opened.” (Gen 7:11 NRS)
Maybe it’s all the rain we’ve had this summer, but I’ve been thinking about Noah and the
flood lately. Noah is an interesting character in the Bible. He alone, out of all of the people of the
earth, has somehow managed to maintain a relationship with God and has found favor in God’s
sight. Now Noah wasn’t perfect, as we see later on in the story, but God used him to save a small
group of people and animals in order to repopulate the earth after the flood. I often wonder how
that conversation went and if Noah was as willing a participant as the Bible paints him out to be.
And then there were his wife and children, and their wives. What about them? I have trouble
getting my own children to do things at times. Imagine Noah telling his wife and sons that they
were going to build a boat, populate it with all kinds of animals and then be shut up in the boat for
40 days and nights while it rains, and then for a longer period waiting for the waters to recede. My
kids would probably tell me I was out of my mind. But then, when they found out I was serious,
maybe they would relent. Maybe.
I guess, in the end, it would come down to a matter of faith, of trust, of belief that what I was
telling them was true and that they believed their father knew what was best for them. I think that’s
the lesson of Noah for us today too. We don’t always know where we’re going in life. We don’t
always know what the future holds, how long the rain will last, if the food we brought for the
voyage will be enough to last. So it comes down to a matter of faith, of trust, of belief that our
Heavenly Father knows what is best for us and that he will see us through whatever storms this life
brings us.

Four of our youth par t ic ipated in a week at Bear Creek Camp near Wilkes-Barre this summer. They were able to experience this for a fraction of the regular pr ice thanks to our generous congregat ion support ing fundra isers benef i t ing the Youth Trip Fund. The fo l lowing are what they ch i ldren had to say about the i r week: "I had a blast at Bear Creek Camp! The food was amazing and I can't wait to go back next year. I'm very grateful for St. Peter's for allowing me this opportunity." -Blake Boyer, age 11
"Bear Creek Camp was super fun! We did high ropes, low ropes, arts & crafts, swimming, carpet ba l l , sang lo ts of songs, had 2 bonfires and a dance. Learned that God's grace changes our identity, community, perspective and more. The overnight camp out helps you bond with people in your group that you never thought of becoming friends with. I would recom-mend other kids go and would like to go again myself." -Abby Faulkner, age 14
"Bear Creek Camp was super fun! We did zip-lining, arts & crafts, visited the nature center, where we were able to touch animals and learned about different types of animal fur. I learned more about God's stories and that He will always be there for you no matter what. For example, if you need His forgiveness, He will be there to forgive you or if you need someone to talk to, He will be there to listen. The food is good, The counselors are nice. No one pulls pranks on you. I would recommend other kids to go and would like to go again myself." -Amelia Faulkner, age 10
"I had a fun time at camp! I got to canoe, swim in the lake and lunch lady Joyce's meatballs were so good. Thank you St. Peter's for support-ing me and sending me to Bear Creek!" -Cooper Hinton, age 11
Thank you St. Peter's for giving our children this opportunity. Thank you parents for allowing your children to experience this enlightening week of fun, faith and apparently great food! Thank you kids for being open to experiencing camp and sharing your thoughts with us!
Stay tuned for future fund raising events for the Youth Trip Fund.
