PRELUDE Jerusalem, My Happy Home - Floeter

+ BRIEF ORDER FOR CONFESSION    Blessed be the holy Trinity, ☩ one God,whose steadfast love is everlasting, whose faithfulness endures from generation to generation.Amen.

Trusting in the mercy of God, let us confess our sin.

Silence is kept for reflection.

Reconciling God,we confess that we do not trust your abundance, and we deny your presence in our lives. We place our hope in ourselvesand rely on our own efforts. We fail to believe that you provide enough for all.We abuse your good creation for our own benefit. We fear difference and do not welcome othersas you have welcomed us.We sin in thought, word, and deed.By your grace, forgive us;through your love, renew us;and in your Spirit, lead us;so that we may live and serve you in newness of life.Amen.

Beloved of God,by the radical abundance of divine mercywe have peace with God through ☩ Christ Jesus, through whom we have obtained grace upon grace. Our sins are forgiven.Let us live now in hope. For hope does not disappoint, because God’s love has been poured into our heartsthrough the Holy Spirit.

In the mercy of almighty God,Jesus Christ was given to die for us,and for his sakeGod forgives us all our sins.As a called and ordained ministerof the church of Christ, and by his authority,I therefore declare to youthe entire forgiveness of all your sins,in the name of the Father, and of the + Son,and of the Holy Spirit.Amen

+     Remembrance of All SaintsLet us remember all the saints before God.We praise and bless you, O Holy Trinity. You have taught your church that it is anageless communion of saints. We thank you for gathering those who faithfullywaited in hope for the redemption you promised, and now for adding us who

celebrate the love of your Christ for the redemption of the world.Prepare a place for us among those who are already with you:

†Gordon Brydges †Melissa Price †Margert Clark †Norma Forgnone †James Weigand†Nathan Weigand

Help us remember them as an encouragement to saintly living, exciting us to love,in anticipation of an eternal reunion. Christ says, Take my yoke upon you, and learnfrom me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. And you will find rest for your souls.

READING Revelation 7:9-17The book of Revelation is written to seven churches in western Asia Minor during atime of great oppression. Today’s reading is a response to the question asked in6:17: “Who is able to stand?” The writer gives the faithful the assurance of God’sprotection and a vision of victory.

9After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, fromevery nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throneand before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10Theycried out in a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on thethrone, and to the Lamb!” 11And all the angels stood around the throne and aroundthe elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throneand worshiped God, 12singing,“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdomand thanksgiving and honorand power and mightbe to our God forever and ever! Amen.” 13Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, robed in white, andwhere have they come from?” 14I said to him, “Sir, you are the one that knows.” Thenhe said to me, “These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they havewashed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.15For this reason they are before the throne of God,and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them.16They will hunger no more, and thirst no more;the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat;17for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

The Word of the Lord.   Thanks be to God.

+ GOSPEL Matthew 5:1-12In the Beatitudes, Jesus provides a unique description of those who are blessed withGod’s favor. His teaching is surprising and shocking to those who seek wealth, fame, and control over others.

The holy Gospel according to Matthew, the 5th chapter.                                         Glory to you, O Lord

In the Beatitudes, Jesus provides a unique description of those who are blessed withGod’s favor. His teaching is surprising and shocking to those who seek wealth, fame, and control over others.1When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, hisdisciples came to him. 2Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.4“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.5“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.6“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.7“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.8“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.9“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.10“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is thekingdom of heaven.11“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds ofevil against you falsely on my account 12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward isgreat in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were beforeyou.”

The Gospel of the Lord.       Praise to you, O Christ.

+ HYMN OF THE DAY For All the Saints (ELW 422)

1     For all the saints who from their labors rest,       who thee by faith before the world confessed,       thy name, O Jesus, be forever blest.       Alleluia! Alleluia!

3     Oh, blest communion, fellowship divine,       we feebly struggle, they in glory shine;       yet all are one in thee, for all are thine.       Alleluia! Alleluia!

5     The golden evening brightens in the west;       soon, soon to faithful servants cometh rest;       sweet is the calm of paradise the blest.       Alleluia! Alleluia!

+ APOSTLE'S CREEDI believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;he descended to the dead.*

On the third day he rose again;he ascended into heaven,he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
