GENERALCOMPETITIONDETAILSPleasefindbelowthegeneralruleswhichapplyforallcompetitions.Theremainderofthisbookletprovidesgreaterdetailson the formatand rulesofeach individual competition. Please retain thisbookletforreferencethroughouttheyear.ENTRY&STARTTIMES
• Entrytoallcompetitionscanbemadeviaemailortelephoneonthedetailsprovidedonpage2 of this handbook. Deadline dates for competitions are normally 2-3 weeks before thecompetition takes place. Please refer to the competition calendar for the start times ofeachcompetition. Pleasecouldallschoolsarrangetoarriveat least15minutesbeforetheproposedstarttimeinordertoensurethateachcompetitionstartsandfinishesontime.
CLOTHING
• Allparticipantsmustweartheirschoolkitandtrainersunlessotherwisestated.Foroutdoorevents,childrenshoulddressappropriatetotheweatherwithwarmclothingwhenitiscoldandasunhatwhenitishot.Forindoorevents,wesuggestbringingwarmclothingassportshallscansometimesbecold!Alljewelleryshouldberemovedandeitherleftatschoolorinasecureboxwithateacheratthecompetition.
CODEOFCONDUCTS&SPECTATORS
• Allschoolswillreceivecopiesofcodeofconductsforparticipants,teammanagers,parentsand spectatorswhichmust be adhered to at all competitions. These relate to the SchoolGames Agreement and Code of Conduct policy. It will be indicated on all competitionexpression of interest forms if spectators are allowed at events. Unfortunately at somevenuesduetolimitedspaceorsecurityrestrictions,spectatorsareunabletoattend.
FIRSTAID
• Allschoolsareresponsiblefortheirownfirstaid.Atmostcompetitionstherewillalsobeadesignatedfirstaiderandsmallfirstaidkitbutthemainresponsibilityliesprimarilywiththeadultinchargeoftheteam.
RISKASSESSMENTS
• All schoolswill be providedwith an event risk assessment for all competitions. It is eachschoolsresponsibilitytoundertaketheirownriskassessmentinordertoattendanevent.
PHOTOGRAPHY
§ Each school is responsible forgainingphotographic consent fromparents/guardians forallSchool Games events. If permission is not given then it is the school’s responsibility toinformtheeventorganiseratthatcompetition.PleasenotethatphotographstakenduringSchool Games events may be used for promotional purposes (including publication innewsletters,socialmediaandonwebsites).
REFRESHMENTS
• Childrenshouldbringsomewaterwith themtoall competitions inorder tokeephydratedduringthecompetition.Nofoodordrinkisprovidedatanyofthecompetitions.
TRANSPORT
• Transport is not provided to any competition unless otherwise stated. Schools will berequiredtoarrangetheirowntransport.

ATHLETICS(QUADKIDS)
INTRODUCTION
QuadKidsisanewandexcitingsportingconceptdesignedtogivemorechildrentheopportunitytoenjoythebenefitsofathleticsandalsotohelpidentifythestarsoftomorrow.COMPETITIONFORMAT
QuadKidsisateambasedcompetitionwhereeachchildcompletesfourevents:
• 50msprint• 300mrun• Standinglongjump• Minivortexhowlerthrow
Teamsfortheyear1&2eventaretoconsistof4boysand4girls.Theywillcompeteasateamwiththescoresoverthefoureventsaddedtogethertogivetheteamscore. Schoolsmayentermorethanoneteamintothecompetitionifspaceallows.SCORING
Eachathletecompetesinallfourevents.Thetimeordistanceforeacheventismeasuredagainstastandardpointsscoringtableandthebettertheperformance,thehigherthepointsscored.Thepointsfromeacheventareaddedtogethertogiveatotalscore.Ifanathletemissesaneventorinthecaseofaracenotfinishing,theathletewouldscorezeropoints.Ifanathletecompletesaneventbutrecordsa timeordistancebelowthe lowerendof thepointsscale, they receive the minimum 10 point score for that event. If an athlete records a time ordistanceabovetheupperendofthepointsscale,theywillbegiventhemaximum100points.PROGRESSION

ATHLETICS(SPORTSHALL)
INTRODUCTION
The Aviva Sportshall programme provides an exciting and highly popular introduction to athleticscompetitions. The following notes provide an overview of the competition and set out the teamrequirements.
COMPETITIONFORMAT
Teamsaretoconsistof10participants–5boysand5girls.Schoolsmayentermorethanoneteamintothecompetitionifspaceallows.For year 1&2, all members of each team will complete some or all the stations listed below(dependingonthenumberofschoolstakingpart):
• Sprint/ShuttleRuno Eachathletewillrunashortdistancewhichwillbetimed(kickboardswillbeused).
• Hurdleso Eachathletewillrunashortdistanceoverlowhurdleswhichwillbetimed.
• StandingLongJumpo Eachathletewillbeallowedanumberof jumpsona longjumpmat.Scoreswillbe
taken from the nearest point of the athlete’s body touching the mat to the startmark.Athletestostartontwofeetandlandontwofeet.
• SpeedBounce
o Eachathletewillhaveonechancetocompleteasmanyjumpsaspossibleonaspeedbouncematin20seconds.
• Javelin
o Eachathletewillhaveanumberofattemptsatthrowingafoamjavelin.Distancewillberecordedfromwherethejavelinhitsthefloor.
• BalanceBeam
o Each athlete tries to balance on a balance beam for as long as possible, up to 30seconds.
• TargetThrow
o Eachathletestandsbehindmarkerandthrowsbeanbagsatspecifiedtargets.Pointsarescoredforthrowingaccuracy.
• VerticalJumpo Eachparticipantstandswiththeirback,headandheelstouchingthewall,stretches
their arms above their head andmarks a point on thewall. The participant thenjumpsfromastandingpositionandtouchesthewallatthehighestpointtheycan.
• ChestPush(Standing)
o Eachathletestandsbehindthestartline.Bothfeetmustremainonthefloorastheathlete chest pushes a ball with two hands forwards. Distance will be recordedwheretheballhitsthefloor.

• HighStepper
o Eachathletewillrunashortdistanceoverahighstepperwhichwillbetimed.
• TeamGameso Athletescompeteasa team inavarietyof fungameswithpointsawarded for the

DANCEINTRODUCTION
The dance competition offers schools the opportunity to showcase their talents to other schoolswithinthetown.COMPETITIONFORMAT
Therewillbethreeagegroupcompetitionsthisyear–Years1&2,Years3&4andYears5&6.Allteamsfromallyeargroupswillberequiredtoperformapre-planneddanceroutine.ThethemeforthecompetitionisStreetDanceandteamscanperformtoanymusicthatfitsinwiththistheme.Musicmustbesuitablefortheagegroup.Profanities&referralsofasexual,violentorracialnaturearenotallowed.The routine should last between 2 to 3 minutes. All schools must bring their own music on CD(clearlymarkedwiththenameoftheschool).Teamsshouldconsistofamaximumof12performersandteamscanbeboys,girlsormixedteams.SCORING
Allteamperformancewillbemarkedoutof50Points(upto10ineachcategory)willbeawardedinthefollowingareas:
• Choreography• Timing&Synchronisation• Transition/FlowofRoutine• Execution• Energy/Effort/EntertainmentValue
CLOTHING
Schoolsdonothavetowearspecificuniformalthoughteamsareencouragedtowearoutfitsordressthesame,whetherthisisinPEkitorsimilarsportingattire.Propscanalsobeusedtoenhancethedances.The competition will be held indoors although it is also recommended that children bring warmclothingtoputonwhennotcompeting.PROGRESSION

FOOTBALLINTRODUCTION
TheaimoftheKS1football festival istoallowpupilstohavefunandparticipate inactivitieswhichwillenhancetheirfootballskills.COMPETITIONFORMAT
The festival consists of skill stations based on agility, coordination and speed which are allfundamentaltoafootballplayer’ssuccess.Thefestivalwillthenprogressontogamesituationsinwhichteamscompeteagainstoneanother.Eachschoolispermittedtobringateamof8children–4boysand4girls.Schoolsmaybepermittedtoentermorethanoneteam,althoughthiswilldependonthenumberofentriesreceived.CLOTHING
Eachplayermustbeintheirschool’sfootballkit/PEkitandappropriatefootweardependingonthesurface.Nostuddedbootsorbladesmaybewornonastro-turf.Thefestivalwillbeheldoutdoors,sopupilswillneedtobringclothesappropriatetotheweather.Shinpadsmustbewornandgoalkeeperscanwearpaddedshirts,shortsandgloves ifavailabletothem.SCORING
Anygamesthatmaybeplayedwillbefunandfriendlywithinacompetitivesetting.Gameswillbescoredbutresultswillnotberecorded.PROGRESSION

GOLF
INTRODUCTION
Tri-Golfwasdevelopedtoenablegolftobedeliveredtoprimaryschoolchildrenbyteacherswithinthe schoolenvironment. A rangeof fun-basedgamesandactivitieshavebeendevelopedandarecompletedbyeachparticipantatthissimplecompetition.COMPETITIONFORMAT
Thiscompetitionwillconsistofteamsof10players(5boysand5girls).Eachteamwillberequiredtocompleteupto8golfskillsbasedstations.Theskillstationsfocusonputtingandchippingskills.Plasticputtersandchippersareusedtostrikeballsatspecifictargetsandcones.Thefestivalwillincludethesomeorallofthefollowingstations(dependingonnumbers):Bullseye–Chiptheballintheairaimingatthecentreofthetarget.Ballsshouldnotbecollecteduntilall balls have been hit and a command has been given. Different points are awarded for eachcolouredarea.Dominoes – Eight Cones of different colours are laid out in a straight line away from the player.Playerstrytorolltheballwiththeputtertohittheconenearesttothem,iftheplayerhitstheconetheycollectit.Theteamcontinuesuntilallconesarehit.

DriveforShow,Putt forDough–Chiptheballovertheriverandscorebyputtingtheball intothehoop.
FindersKeepers–Putttheballtowardsthecones,thefirstconetheballhits,theplayercollectswiththe ball and returns it to the team. If all cones are hit within the time limit, scatter again andcontinue.
GrandNational–Chiptheballintheairoverthe‘fences’madefromconesinturntoscorepoints.

Tunnel Ball – Putt the ball down the tunnel towards the hoopwithout hitting any cones. Choosewhichteeyouwouldliketoplayfrom–blue,yelloworwhite.Thefurthestteeswillrewardyouwithmorepoints.
ZoneBall–Tryandrolltheballasstraightasyoucantowardstheyellowcone.Thecloseryougettoit,themorepointsyouwillreceive.DowntheMiddle–Playersstartfromthewhiteconesandtrytostriketheballinbetweenthelinesofgreencones(fairway)andoverbluecones(river)inturn.

Pupils/schoolsaccumulatepointsas theytravelarounddifferentstationsandtheschoolwiththehighestaccumulatedpointsafterallstationsarecompletedisdeemedthewinner.FullscoresheetsareavailableinthePrimarySchoolCompetitionResourceatwww.golf-foundation.org.CLOTHING
The event will be held outdoors on grass, so pupils will need to bring clothes appropriate to theweatherincludingappropriatefootwear.PROGRESSION

INTRODUCTION
TheKeyStepsGymnasticscompetitionsenableschoolbasedgymnaststocompeteonthefloorandonthevaultinafunenvironment.COMPETITIONFORMAT
Therewillbetwoagegroupscompetingatthesametime–years1&2andyears3&4.Teamsaretoconsistof6gymnastsperschoolofwhichtheremustbeatleastoneboyandonegirlaspartoftheteam.BritishGymnastics suggest that all teams aremadeupof school gymnasts although any gymnaststaking part in the local competitions cannot attend a community club for more than 2 hours perweek.Year1&2Event:

• Teams(all6pupils)willperforma jointfloorroutinetoapieceofmusicoftheirchoicethatisbetween1min-1.5minslong(musicmaycontainvocals).
• Theroutineneedstocompriseofthe4compulsoryelementslistedbelowand6optionalelementsalltakenfromKeySteps,Step1,BodyManagement&FloorExercise(pleaseseelistbelow).
• Theelementsshouldbeperformedincombinationwithlinkingmovements.

All6scoreswillbeaddedtotheteamtotal.Amaximumof60pointscanbeachievedbytheteamonthisapparatus.
• Vaultingisjudgedin4phases:flighton,contactwiththeapparatus,flightoffandlanding.• Eachteamwillbeawardedwithascoreoutofapossible120points.
PROGRESSION
The top two schools from year 1&2 will be invited to represent Luton at the Level 3 countygymnastics finals. Details of the county finalswill be sent to thequalifying schools after the localroundshavebeencompleted.

KS1FESTIVALSINTRODUCTION
The aims of the KS1 Festivals are to allow pupils to have fun and participate in a competitiveatmosphere.The festivals are targeted at those children who may not have had the chance to represent theschoolbeforeandofferdifferentactivitiesfromthosealreadyontheKS1calendar.COMPETITIONFORMAT
Therearethreefestivalsheldduringtheyear:
• InvasionGamesintheAutumnTerm• Net&WallintheSpringTerm• MultiSkillsintheSummerTerm
The festivalswill consist of stationswhich teamswill rotate aroundbuilding on skills learnt in thecurriculum.The festivalswill focuson theprinciplesof agility, balanceand coordination and include fun teamgamesusingtheseprinciples.Fortheinvasiongamesfestival,activitieswillbebasedonsportsincludingrugby,benchball,hockeyandbasketball.Forthenetandwallfestival,activitieswillbebasedonsportsincludingvolleyball,tennis,badmintonandtabletennis.For the multi skills festival, several different activities will take place with the emphasis onenjoyment.Eachschoolispermittedtobringateamof8children–4boysand4girls.Schoolsmaybepermittedtoentermorethanoneteamalthoughthiswilldependonthenumberofentriesreceived.SCORING
All festivals will be non-scoring. Games and activities will be fun and friendly but within acompetitivesetting.Someactivitiesmaybescoredbutresultswillnotberecorded.PROGRESSION

TENNISINTRODUCTION
Thisfestivalwillconsistoffun,games,competitionsandcoachingfromqualifiedtenniscoaches.COMPETITIONFORMAT
Thefestivalconsistsofskillstationsbasedonagility,balanceandcoordinationwhichcanbedirectlytransferredtothegameoftennis.Eachschoolispermittedtobringupto10childrenofwhomatleast3mustbegirls.Schoolsmaybepermitted to enter more than one team, although this will depend on the number of entriesreceived.SCORING
Althoughtheremaybestationswhereschools/pupilsaccumulatepoints,thesearenotrecordedastheemphasisonthedayisonfunandparticipation.PROGRESSION
