The time is here! Drum roll please! Lakmé Fashion Week is getting ready to present its spring resort 2012 collections. An assorted mix of avant garde, creative designs mixed with staples of the veterans, days of exhausting fittings have finished today… few

minutes ago! I write as the fittings are wrapping up and revelling in the presence of amazing creative energy. Mostly everyone sees the final product onstage but do they how much goes on behind the scenes? Before the fashion week, models have days of fittings…

being poked and pinned for 8-10 hours daily as the style gurus give each look their undivided attention.

In between the long hours is a lot of solidarity and bonding, full of mirth, with great memories to carry forward. It is remarkable to see the anti-

thesis of the misconceived fangs out … in fact, it is contradictory. Moreover is always motivating to speak with each designer individually, all with rich experiences, coming together on one esteemed platform. Between blogging and submitting

reports on everything that happens at the event, I walk away knowing each of the designers, models and the team of Lakmé Fashion Week better.

Here I share some photographs candidly before the looks hit the runway! See you there!

The Future Of FashionLFW TV Sustaining a business and forging relationships with veteran players is a grueling dance few relish

and even fewer master... but not if you are one of the handpicked (and very creative) Gen Next designers at Lakmé Fashion Week.

The established labels that you already know about — Rohit Bal, Rocky S, Bibhu Mohapatra, James Ferreira and many more — can easily fill up the five days of fashion week. Getting buyers and editors to fit in one more show is not effortless if you are new, creating an intimidating obstacle for young designers trying to establish a foothold in the industry. Sustaining a business and forging relationships with veteran players is a grueling dance few relish and even fewer master... but not if you are one of the handpicked (and very creative) Gen Next designers at Lakmé Fashion Week.

"Honestly, I felt at peace when I was informed I was on the list of the Gen Next category at Lakme Fashion Week because it gave me a validation that I am moving in the right direction!

I have graduated in B.Com and Fashion Design from NIFT with diverse work experience and today I am proud designer and owner of fashion label GaGa..." says Tanya Sharma who has taken something as straightforward and classic as "the white shirt" and infused it with creative aesthetics influenced by street wear reminiscent of the Pop culture.

"It was the one phone call I did not expect. The anxiety as to why I've been called had reached its peak when I was told that I was on the list of Gen Next Designers. I was numb," reveals NIFT and Central Saint Martin's alumnus Megha Garg. "I was unable to react. I wanted to jump, laugh and shout out with excitement but to no avail. It took me a while to grasp the feeling. This is definitely the best platform for designers

to launch themselves and I would mark this opportunity as the biggest turning point in my life. The collection is inspired from the paranormal concept of Aura. The feel will be light with floating drapes combined with structured areas of multiple layered garments."

It is a one-brick-at-a-time business. "GenNext has been a trendsetter of sorts in Indian fashion. As a platform, it has contributed some of the freshest and most creative talent to the industry. I am ecstatic to be a part of this great institution and am feeling optimistic about bringing my perspective to this runway," feels NIFT and NID alumnus Yogesh Chaudhury who is the first Asian to bag Supreme Award at the World of Wearable Art, New Zealand. There are high expectations

from his collection "In A Box."

NIFT and Parsons School of Design alumnus Archana Rao was ecstatic she had made it to the coveted list of Gen Next Designers. "I worked hard on the concept and selection was a dream come true! Lakmé Fashion Week is more than just an opportunity... it's a launch pad into professional designing and I cannot wait to experience it. The Gen Next program boasts of such inspirational designers and I feel proud to be a part of it! I think of fashion as functional art and I want to make things that you can touch and feel. My aesthetic is minimalistic, contemporary and understated."

"When we got the news we've made it to the final list for Gen Next Designers of Lakmé Fashion Week, it was an exciting as well as an

emotional moment for us! All our dreams are coming true... it is the first level of our sky-high aims," reveal visibly ecstatic duo Manoj Kumar and Vinod Bhardwaj. "We plan to make our collection viable for the catwalk, fashion editors and buyers through an element of convertible garments that we intend to present in a dramatic manner."

Although we did not get the opportunity to check out the collections of Prashant Chauhan and design duo Shikha Grover and Vinita Adhikari, we believe it will create ripples. "ALL the collections by the Gen Next designers is like a breath if fresh air... creative and young," says supermodel Nina Manuel. We agree with her here... these kids are just one step away from victory!

Max Bupa LFW TV brings you the catwalk shows, interviews and behind the scenes action from Lakme Fashion Week Spring Resort 2012. "Expect exclusive interviews with the designers, models, hair and make-up artists, sponsors and a whole lot more including front row coverage and Nina's Model Diary," says supermodel Nina Manuel who has been flown down from New York to host this season's coverage on LFW TV.

Which shows is she looking forward to? "James Ferreira, Bibhu Mohapatra and Rohit Bal. I'm especially looking forward to Rohit Bal's grand finale showing as we go a long way back... and some of the looks of the Gen Next designers are like a breath of fresh air!"
