iCLASS RK-40

The HID iCLASS RK-40 reader has a 4-bit keypad mode. It operates at 5-16 VDC. The average current

draw is 72/244 mA at 12 V. The LEDs and buzzer function the same as standard HID Wiegand/Prox

readers.

LX Technologies has tested the reader using 5V and 12 Volts; if you are utilizing 12 volts then the reader

may get a little warm. This is normal although the warmth should be isolated to the back of the reader

only.

Also note that when the reader has been idle for a period of time it may take up to 2 seconds to read a

card. Once a card is read additional cards can be processed at a faster rate as the reader has reactivated

its antenna.

Note: HID iCLASS readers must be unlocked with a special command card before they are operational

with the LX Technologies, Inc. software.

Software Installation This document describes the necessary steps to configure the readers on a standard SpectrumLX system

utilizing an SPP with MR52 panels. The Reader needs to be configured for a 200bit Wiegand output. If

your readers were purchased from LX Technologies they are preconfigured to the appropriate output if

you purchased them separately please contact us before attempting to install them.

The SpectrumLX software allows you to configure up to 4 individual card formats per SPP. Standard

Options include the Wiegand (26 bit or 37bit), Magnetic cards, facility code and cardholder offsets.

To configure the HID 200bit Card format we need to create the card format within the system settings.

To begin highlight and click “Card Format” in the Utilities Menu, a dialog box titled “Card Format” will

appear on your screen.

Select Card Format then

select the SPP you are going

to change.

Figure 3 - Card Format

Card Format Fields

SPP Drop-down Box Enter the SPP number where the card format will be used.

Format Record Drop-down Box Enter the number -- 1, 2, 3, or 4 -- of the record you're configuring.

Each card reader in the SpectrumLX System can be configured to

accept up to four different configurations of ID card or badge

formats.

Facility Code Scroll Box Enter the numerical designator of the facility where the card reader

will be used. The reader and the SpectrumLX access control

functions can use this number. (i.e. persons not having the correct

facility code on their ID cards or badges will not be allowed access)

Set to 0

Cardholder Offset Scroll Box Enter the numerical offset in the card formats.

REQUIRED IF MORE THAN ONE FORMAT IS CONFIGURED. Because

the LX Technologies hardware can utilize different card formats, an

"offset" is required. For example, if two different card formats are

used -- Wiegand and magnetic stripe -- both formats can start with

card number "1." Using the offset enables the computer to "see"

the difference between the formats, even though both cards are

numbered "1" in the computer database.

Set to 0

After selecting the

appropriate SPP, Press

the Configure Button.

Figure 4 - Wiegand Format Screen

Wiegand Format Configuration

The appropriate Wiegand Format utilized by the reader and field panel for this application is 200 bits.

This screen will allow us to configure a format based on the total number of bits.

Note: Because the MR52 reads data in 4bit nibbles and the card is formatted using 5 bit nibbles the

system may generate a different number than the one on the back of the CAC. However, you should

not have any duplicate card numbers within the system.

Wiegand Format

CARD HOLDER Number of cardholder ID bits: This area states which

bits are associated with the cardholder.

Bit address to start from: Location where the data

starts on the Wiegand format.

TOTAL NUMBER OF BITS ON

CARD

This number sets the total number of bits acceptable

on the card. If more or less bits are detected during the swipe transaction, the

card is identified as a non-standard card, and appropriate

notification to security personnel can be carried out.

Load

Downloads the complete database to the SPP

panels.

Save

Once you have configured the database, click on

the “Save” button to save the information.

Close

Click on the “Close” button to exit the dialog box.

Any unsaved changes will be lost.

If you get any negative numbers for the card number you need to lower the “Number of cardholder ID

bits” on the card holder section or move the “Bit address to start from” to a deterrent location.

From the SpectrumLX Configuration menu highlight and click “Reader Database (User Form)”, a dialog-

box titled “Reader Database” will appear on your screen. At the top, you will see three tabs, “Page 1,

“Page 2” and “Page 3”. To configure the reader to read the CAC; go to Page 2 as seen below;

Card FORMAT Check Check the appropriate boxes when a specified card format will be used

at this particular reader. (Check all that apply)

Card Formats 1 through 4 are defined under the Utilities Menu- Card

Format.

Each card reader can be configured to accept four different formats,

depending on the type and formatting of the cards, which have been

authorized for use at the reader.

Special Note:

The “Wiegand format” is only based on even and old parity bit setting, so we need to find a set of bits

that will not changed based on the card... HID has an ‘SS’ values at the start of the string they send on all

cards...

The value is 1101 bits, so if we look at the bit 2 it is always ‘0’ so we will set it to the even parity, and the

odd bit we can use any of the ‘1’ in the first string. This will get us passed the “Wiegand Error”.

There are other values in the card format that HID sends to get the even and odd parity bits, but we will

focus on the first set of bits…

Even Parity - Group Box

Number of bits to the sum for even parity: 1

Bit address to start from: 2

Odd Parity – Group Box

Number of bits to the sum for Odd parity: 1

Bit address to start from: 1

Even parity group box and odd parity group boxes are the only ones you need make sure you set right or

you will get the “Wiegand Format Error”...

Example 200 bit card format:

200 Bit Output (BCD)

Serial Output:

Needs serial data because this is the only example that does not strip parity.
