SEVEN NEW JUDGESIt rains judges in the Madras High Court. Though the

monsoon has played spoilsport so far, the judicial pool willbe full if the selectors can land on some more materialworthy of the throne in the near future.

The egress is more than the ingress because the Su-preme court grabs our judges and vacancy is a perennialproblemin this great court making it plead like friend OliverTwist, “Please sir, I want some more”.

Last week the appointing authority said,”Here take, asa first instalment, seven of the best. Maybe we canpersuade some of the unjustly sacked law officers of yourcourt through the machinations of criminal minds, toaccept judgeship which was their right, if honesty and truthhave any meaning in the temple of justice”

Well, I don’t think it has reference to me because I ampursuing the Bar Council bonanza of 5.25 lakh rupees toold bandicoots who have called it a day in the profession. AllI got from the profession was a sack as GovernmentPleader during Amma’s first innings, as a fancied legalofficer who worked part time as peon stole her signature ona sack order. Justice is, to quote Shashi Tharoor, a ‘cattlecart’ and, a few years later, he got his just desserts .

Justice P. N. Prakash, the newly appointed judge, thetallest among the group, shared 103, Law Chambers withhis senior K. M. Srirangan and me among other juniors ofthe great G. Ramaswami who rose to the Supreme Courtas Attorney General. I hope the Supreme Court will workup an appetite for Justice Prakash in god time.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Sir, Apropos to the letter in Mambalam Times last week by T. N.Balasubramanian, I would like to add some more points.

MTC buses do not ply through Madley Subway as it is a littlenarrower than Duraisamy Subway on the north and AranganathanSubway on the south.

If minibuses which have recently been introduced in different partsof city are also introduced through the route of Madley Subway, it willbenefit a number of commuters in West Mambalam and Postal Colonyareas. The route can be set through Udayam Theatre, Govin-dan Road,Kittu Park, Easwaran Koil Street, Madley Subway to reach Egmore/Guindy. There are no share autos in this area as well.

Presently autos are the only means of commuting and many of theauto drivers fleece the customers.

I appeal to the MTC officials to start minibus service for the abovementioned route. – V. Mani, Sri Kamakoti Colony Residents’Association, Kuppaiah Street, West Mambalam

Minibus route via Madley subyway would helpcommuters in West Mambalm
