Electronic data acquisitiondevices are being installed atcity reservoirs and variouswater distribution points ofChennai Metro Water Supplyand Sewerage Board(CMWSSB) to keep a check onwater levels through a central-ized online network.
Using these devices andmatrix display system,CMWSSB will be able to moni-
tor the entire process, from thesourcing point to the distribu-tion of drinking water to resi-dents, round-the-clock.
At present, the Water Re-sources Department (WRD)shares the data on water lev-els once a day with CMWSSB.
Once the project is commis-sioned, the latter will be able tocheck the levels anytime dur-ing the day.
This project comes at a cru-cial point when the water levelin the reservoirs is low and wouldhelp decision-making on waterdistribution.
The system, which is ex-pected to be ready in a fewweeks, will also help officialsassess the extent of loss duringtransmission from one point toanother, an official of CMWSSB said.

sons, including a couple and ajuvenile, in connection with thebrutal murder of two elderlywomen in West Mambalam onMay 10, 2011.
Police said that the coupleMahendran (48) and Vijaya-lakshmi (42) mastermindedthe murder of the sistersJayalakshmi (75) and Kama-kshi (72) who were residingtogether in a flat on K.R. KoilStreet (West Mambalam).
On interrogation, Vijayalak-shmi confessed to the crimeand its modus operandi.
According to the police,Vijayalakshmi had visited thesisters a couple of times in con-nection with a maidservant joband had noticed them wearinglots of heavy jewellery. Shepresumed they must be hav-ing lots of cash at home. Shealong with her husband thenplanned to rob the women.
They sought the help of acousin (a former convict) andfour other friends in commit-ting the crime.
On the night of May 10 sheknocked on the door of the un-suspecting sisters and barged

She had retiredfrom King Institute of Preven-tive Medicine (Guindy). Jayala-kshmi was a divorcee and hadno children.
The investigating officersfaced several setbacks in theirprobe. The women had no rela-tives who could estimate howmuch money had been takenfrom the house. Investigatorsfound Rs. 12 lakhs in their bankaccounts which had been un-touched. The sisters had nomi-nated each other as beneficia-ries.

Parking woes on Abdul Azeez Street
Sir, I reside at 26, Abdul Azeez Street, T. Nagar. Nowadays, the road margin on eitherside of the street is occupied by parked vehicles thereby narrowing the road width.
While most of them park the cars in front of their houses, some residents with morethan one car park their vehicles outside other residents’ compound.
Likewise, a nearby resident has permanently parked his car along the road margin infront of my house and refuses to remove it even when I need that space.
I have also posted a complaint in the Facebook page of Chennai Traffic Police a weekback. The car is still there.

dated April 19-25, there was a news itemabout the death of a senior citizen at theBurkit Road-Usman Road junctioncaused by a speeding MTC bus.
There are frequent accidents at thejunction because of the lack of safetymeasures for pedestrians.
At the centre of the junction, thoughthere is a signal, it caters only to thevehicles and there is no zebra cross-ing. The pedestrians are forced to exer-cise extreme caution as they have tocross based on the direction the vehiclesare plying. Added to the woes, the roadmargins are further blocked by parkedshare autos and MTC buses.
