MANIFESTO
I, Pallav Banka (17D110014) , contesting for the post of GSSA (General Secretary Sports Affairs) , would be steadfast in extending the legacy of IIT Bombay Sports to every individual.
To that end, if elected, I propose to do the following:
INITIATIVES Fitter Campus | A conscious approach • Integrate mess menu with a calorie calculator in Sports app; additionally put up infographics • in hostel messes and sports venues for calorie intake and expenditure respectively • Create fitness focus groups for people with similar fitness interests guided by experienced people • Install distance markers for cycling and jogging enthusiasts around gymkhana and lakeside and • • establish a cycling club to organise cycling expeditions in the campus and around the city Health and Safety | Need of the hour • Equip all sports venues with wet wipes, sanitizer dispensers and garbage cans to maintain hygiene • Conduct workshops for first aid , injury handling and supplements for the community biannually Creating New Frontiers | Steps towards uncharted grounds • Introduce exchange student experience program encouraging competitiveness in institute players • Create external blogs to promote IITB Sports outside the institute, video tutorials by IITB coaches • for beginners, experts watch and learn, sports highlights on IITB Sports YouTube channel • Register IITB for Association of Indian Universities ( AIU ) tournaments to increase exposure Sports: An Untold Legacy | Expanding outreach • Create sports podcast channels covering highlight of events from both within and outside institute • Build an online Blackcats Archive containing testimonials, accomplishments and event showreels Admin Revamp | Sustained growth • Install complaint boxes at major sports venues; create an online tracker for categorised complaint • • and create a team to look at them periodically • Expand the purview of Sports Com to include GC calendars and hostel-wise sports related issues
INFRASTRUCTURE • Ensure the construction of iron mesh at hockey, throwing cage for athletics and pole padding at • outdoor basketball grounds to ensure safety of players and bystanders. • Follow up on roof of lawn tennis wall practice area and convert the old storeroom into a mini gym • Introduce gym facilities in indoor courts to improve practice efficiency and accessibility • Push towards reinforcement and addition of support structures to swimming pool filtration plant • Ensure construction of multi-purpose turf to allow continuous practice during monsoon season • Procure kabaddi mats for use in training hall to improve utilisation and promote kabaddi
HOSTEL COORDINATION • Prepare a charter for incoming new hostel sport councils ensuring adequate knowledge transfer • Follow up on equipment pooling and issuing from sports venues to optimize institute funds usage
FACILITIES Public Awareness • Introduce freshers sports booklet showcasing facilities, opportunities and history of IITB Sports • Implement the concept of Zero Hour to provide basic sports training to the institute community • Install display boards at fields, infographics at gym and team and events gallery at major sports • venues to spread awareness and enhance sports culture and event ambience Equipment, Accessibility and Tech • Install a vending machine at New SAC building dispensing energy drinks, health bars etc. • Launch equipment availability portal for SAC store on both web and app platforms along with • implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) portal to maximize efficiency • Introduce RFID technology in crossy GC to ensure greater accuracy and smoother organisation • Reintroduce digital certificates for institute events along with GC and sports camps
INSTITUTE TEAMS & INTER-IIT • Launch bimonthly team feedback form to ensure accountability and progress of secretaries • Initiate simultaneous team trials across all sports to facilitate student induction and their awareness • Organize Blackcats contingent excursions to promote inter-team bonding and also improve brand • value of Blackcats and begin sales of merchandise in the institute • Instate standardized fitness test to benchmark the team performances and collaborate with NCC for • obstacle course for fitness enthusiasts doubling as a challenge course in our contingent as well • Award “ Player of the Month ” title in every sport among juniors to encourage participation
GIRLS • Start customized camps for freshmen girls in various sports and conduct Amazonian Arcade , a • two phase workshop for all girls at hostels followed by on-ground event to showcase their progress • Initiate court/slot reservation at regular intervals for females at different sports venues
PG SPORTS • Launch PG Genesis , a two week workshop at the start of semester for PG Freshers, familiarizing • them with sports facilities and conduct a tournament allowing them to showcase their abilities • Conduct PhD team induction in even semesters to introduce them to the wider community • Initiate intermediate level PG sports camps in summers to improve participation in sports • Utilize PG database and events timeline for simplified event tracking, segregation, along with • reinitiation of workshops and trio tournament at Hostel 12, 13 and 14 to enhance PG interaction
CLUBS
• Form online clubs for eSports, Formula1, MotoGP, Golf to bring the respective communities • together, parallelly expanding fantasy league to Basketball/NBA, Pro-Kabaddi etc. • Create a recreational sports club for Frisbee, Handball, Dodgeball, Tug of War and Skating
