Shraddha, a Tamil dramatroupe, will stage the Tamilskit ‘Bharathi’, a children’splay, on Saturday and Sun-day, Nov. 22 and 23, from 7p.m in Vani Mahal (G.N.Chetty Road, T. Nagar).
The play was originally writ-ten in Marathi more than 30years ago by Vijay Tendulkarand has been translated andadapted to Tamil by YadarthaK. Penneswaran (a Delhi-Based Tamil writer).
Mahima, a student of Al-chemy Kids Theatre, plays thelead role.
‘Bharathi’ is the story of a10-year-old girl. The play dealswith the sensitivity of a singlechild born to working parents.The child’s frustration in notfinding either parent at homeon return from school and theirextended working hours thatpush the child into her ownworld of fantasy form the cruxof the story. The various char-acters of her imagination likeAkbar, Birbal, ChathrapathiSivaji, cartoon characterMickey Mouse, a circus clownand a speaking horse have beenwell characterised.
The troupe has also man-aged to recreate an underwa-ter episode on stage compris-ing of fluorescent sea-weeds, agiant octopus, colourful fishes,giant sea shells and tortoise.

auto rickshaws was conductedby RTO officials and trafficpersonnel on Nov. 18 at vari-ous junctions in T. Nagar, WestMambalam, Ashok Nagar, K.K. Nagar and nearby areas.
An official said that the in-spection was done following anumber of complaints receivedfrom passengers about autodrivers charging more than the
regulated fare.The inspectors checked the
license and permit of the ve-hicles and also if they hadswitched on the meter and alsoenquired with the passengersif the driver had demanded morethan the card fare.
The offending drivers werefined and let off with a warningthat a repeated offence couldlead to cancellation of permitand seizure of the vehicle.
