LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Chakrapani Street residents affected by trafficdiversion

Sir, Due to the ongoing repair and renovation work onKodambakkam Bridge, traffic has been diverted to Rangara-japuram flyover via Chakra-pani Street (West Mambalam)which is causing lots of hardship to the nearby residents.

There is heavy traffic throughout the day and severe jamsduring peak hours.

The drivers speed and show scant respect to pedestrians, especially senior citizens and school children who struggle towalk or cross the road.

The one-way rule from the west side is being flouted rightunder the nose of the traffic officials who turn a blind eye toit.

After several appeals, a speed breaker was recently in-stalled to slow down the drivers.

I appeal to the traffic officials to implement the followingimmediately to reduce the burden on the pedestrians andresidents:

(1) Erect traffic signals at the junction of ChakrapaniStreet and Thambiah Road on the west end of the road.

(2) Add more speed breakers, especially at the entry andexit points.

(3) To post traffic personnel during peak hours to regulatetraffic and also levy hefty fine on drivers who violate the one-way rule and speed.

(4) Relocate the TASMAC shop which is only adding to theproblems. – R. Ramadurai, Chakrapani Street, WestMambalam

Stray dog menace in Ashok NagarSir, There is a serious stray dog menace in and around 53rd

and 54th Streets, Ashok Nagar.Their population has increased in the past few months and

is causing lot of problems to the residents. It is a residential colony and the streets are frequented in

the mornings and evenings by walkers.Often these dogs get into fights and chase each other,

thereby scaring passersby.Their incessant barking, especially at night has become a

big nuisance to the residents.Dog owners are finding it difficult to walk their pets as

these stray dogs are hostile towards them. They also jump compound walls and intrude into the

Appeal for traffic signal at 7th/11th Avenue junctionSir, There is very heavy traffic at the junction of 11th

Avenue and 7th Avenue, Ashok Nagar, especially during peakhours causing hardship to pedestrians wanting to cross theroad.

There is no traffic signal and only rarely can one see atraffic cop regulating the traffic.

In spite of a number of pedestrians waiting to cross theroad, motorists least bother to stop and give way.

I appeal to the traffic officials to erect an automated signalat this junction. – S Ramachandran, B-5, Ashok Vihar,11th Avenue, Ashok Nagar; Ph: 94459 63891

Appeal for bus stop near District LibrarySir, A number of nearby residents, especially senior citi-

zens, regularly visit the District Library on 11th Avenue,Ashok Nagar.

But there is no bus stop nearby and we are forced to walkquite a distance to reach the nearest bus stop.

At present the road margin near the library is misused byprivate buses as a parking lot.

I appeal to MTC to provide a bus stop with shelter near theDistrict Library which in turn will also prevent unauthorisedparking of vehicles. – S. Ramachandran, 21, 11th Avenue,Ashok Nagar
