Joy of Giving Week

Happiness doesn‟t result from what we get, but from what we give.

With the aim of engaging the students across all grades, in the act of „Giving‟, a

„Joy of Giving‟ week from October 17, 2016 to October 22, 2016.

It aimed at providing care and support for the children who need a little help to

reach their greatest potential.

The students came forward and donated whole heartedly and truly felt the

pleasure of giving and sharing. Their eagerness and willingness on being a part

of this drive was remarkable. At the end of the week, there was a generous

collection of clothes, books, stationery, toys and a lot more which was sent to

the orphanage.

It is rightly said….. No other joy is more precious than that of giving and the

students of OISKH had the privilege of experiencing it first-hand.

FIRE SAFETY DRILL

It is always better to be safe than sorry.

To create awareness among the students to respond vigilantly and swiftly in

times of emergency, a mock fire evacuation drill was carried out on

November 11, 2016.

A search and rescue team was made which went through a training session

by Mr.Sameer Rajput, Safety Manager to ensure that every individual has

the knowledge to safely escape from a fire without injuring themselves or

others.

The evacuation operation began soon after the fire alarm rang out loud and

alerted everyone . The staff and the students from pre-nursery to Grade VII

exited as per the safety plan and assembled at the designated point .The

rescue team ensured that everyone present in the school evacuated the

premises. The students and staff had hands-on experience in the demo

session arranged after the drill on the “effective usage of a fire extinguisher.”

Dussehra Celebrations-SPECIAL ASSEMBLY

A child is like a seed sowed in this vast garden of diversity,

where it has to grow up following the norms of uniformity,

imbibing the right measure of elements from Mother Nature,

and yet carve a niche for itself to prove its individuality.

The education system, which is an amalgamation of value-

based learning and co-curricular activities, lays the very

foundation for moulding the child into an individual infused with

right mix of qualities and values. Keeping this in mind, “Special

Morning Assemblies” are organized to provide an opportunity to

each child to create his or her identity, showcase his talent and

acquire new skills.

The students performed a dance drama in which they depicted

the significance of Dussehra. The students portrayed the

characters of Ramayana in which Rama, Sita, and Laksmana

were exiled, followed by the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana

and his return to Ayodhya.

The assembly aimed to highlight the victory of Good over

Evil.

Phonic Workshop The parental role in the development of phonemic awareness is crucial in early childhood. When parents give their children opportunities to experiment with language at home, they increase the probability that their children will develop the phonemic awareness they'll need at school. In addition, engaging in phonemic awareness activities at home creates positive attitudes toward reading in children. A „PHONIC WORKSHOP‟ was conducted for parents of Pre Primary & Grade 1 & 2. During this workshop they were taught about different components of phonological awareness like phonics, blends, diagraphs, sight words, family words, etc. They were apprised about the teaching practices at Orchids that they can follow at home.

Transport Day As a culmination to the theme „TRANSPORT‟ for Pre- Nursery and Nursery , different modes of transport – roadways, railways, waterways and airways – were introduced to children by setting up models of different types of vehicle. Models of ticket booking counters, baggage and security counters, signal systems and fuel station were also set up. Models of ship, boat, yacht and submarine were prepared to show the different vehicles that use water ways while airborne vehicle models included aeroplane, helicopter, rocket, and hot air balloon. Children were excited to sit in row boat and train. Some children enjoyed waiting at the bus stop for bus. There were photo booths set up for various means of transports Children also enjoyed colouring the traffic signal at the activity corner. Over all it was an educative and entertaining day for the kids.

Season Booth day I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I

understand.

We believe in making learning fun and innovative. Seasons Booth

Day was organised in K1 with great enthusiasm. The main

objectives to organize the day was to reinforce the concept of

seasons, to enhance sensory exploration skills in children and to

enhance the vocabulary. The students along with their parents

were awed to see the panoramic display of all the three seasons.

It is at Terna Orchids The International School, that we innovate

ways to prepare the students to enjoy their learning as a journey

but not the destination.

Diwali Celebration The tiny tots celebrated Diwali with lots of enthusiasm, zeal and zest. The little

ones came to school in traditional attire. Children experienced the Joy of Giving

by bringing goodies from their home which was distributed among the less

fortunate people. The students celebrated by distributing sweets and had fun

while showing their dance moves.

Our K2 students performed a skit on Pollution free Diwali followed by a rally

around the school premises using placard conveying a special message to

celebrate eco-friendly Diwali.

It was a divine and an exhilarating experience for everyone who participated in

the feast for the soul and the senses. The celebrations were to reiterate

everyone to play a safe and environment friendly Diwali, say no to toxic

crackers which are harmful for overall health and for natural coexistence.
